This is amazing and sad a the same time. O.V. is either 39 or 40 here and as mrstanbmw said he was very very sick here and he looks so much older than his age here, but he is able to muster up enough strength to outsing anyone singing out here today and he's been gone for 31 years. You look at him and you just want to help him, but you also thank God for allowing us to see and hear such a rare talent as this. R.I.P. Overton Vertis Wright.

@tlharris40, You are so correct in describing this great singer. God has a plan,"I believe," for all of his children and I honestly believe He gave us Mr. O.V. Wright to sing until it touches our Soul. He certainly touched mines. I Thank you Mr. Wright.

i'm 62 and he still draw tears from me, tears with a happiness though. I see that ole gramaphone that my brothers and sisters wont let me touch but can only listen on Weekends. We're still all alive Alhamdulillah. I keep playing it over n overs whenever I'm in vehicle.

The sad part about this performance was that he was a very sick man and he sounded better than his records what a giant of a talent this man was. I saw the Guitarist Robert Cray perform years ago and it did my heart good because he gave a shout out the brotha O.V. saying that this was the man he idolized growing up. the white folks in the audience didn't have a clue to who he was talking about lord knows I did. You know his boy was the late great James Carr who in my opinion was the greatest.

O.V. Wright was only 40 years old when this was recorded & died the next year at 41. It's sad what drugs did too him, if I didn't know how old he was. By looking at him in this video I would of guessed he was in his early 70's. But regardless of that he is still one of my favorite singers of all time. R.I.P O.V. Wright October 9,1939-November 18,1980

he was a total discovery for me. a true gem. the most authentic sound i ve heard i n a long time. i dont know why every special people get so much strage circumstances arround them. Adicctions, dificult social or financial situations that leads them to create for needing of it , bring truth to the world, never get recognised and then die like he did. its so unfair. this man got style, voice, and the sound behind him benefited him a lot. May be it was the trend sound of his time but still it was so pure and beautiful. Another true pure soul lighting up like a big spark and getting off so early. wish at least he would get the recognition he deserved on his life time. I was so surprised it took me so long to discover him by other songs and samples... he was genuine in some way. dont know if he wrote the lyrics he sang...but omg....are you going wher i m coming from..have you been where im trying to go... thats so fucking beautiful and powerful.... i dont know why i love you.... another fire song.... this guy and the musicians with him were amazing, incredible, music fucking history. what a shame what society ignores and forget. this is a fucking gem. alongside other incredible artist without enough recognition. fuck life. incredibly beautiful...but a fucking shit. beautiful though. incredible.

Wow, this must have been recorded just shortly before the package show I saw him in at the Omni in Atlanta shortly before he died. Willis Edwards, B. B. King's road manager, saw him backstage and said he looked just awful - he had been losing so much weight that he had to put clothespins in the back of his clothes to take them up before he went on. But from the 4th or 6th row where I was, you couldn't tell, he looked good, he sounded good, & he just tore up the whole place.
