He claims I broke his heart but he bounced back very quickly and has a lovely wife and has been married for over 40yrs. He is still a sweetheart, very happily married and a grandfather now. Oh and his wife knows that we speak sometimes and is fine about it, I made sure of that we he reached out. Our chats are always appropriate and we have never met up, even if he was coming to my country town as I didn’t think it was the proper thing to do, and also he never asked to. Just a good decent guy who likes to reminisce with me about high school, and the fact that he was terrified of my dad 😂. Yes Mr Glenn, I will take good care of her at the pictures or wherever we were going, No she will be home exactly on time Mr Glenn, I would never keep her out late No, there will not be any alcohol at the party Sir. So how did it go from this..... a multiplicity of great and talented well dressed and dignified black musical acts that people of all races would be forced to admire .... to black guys and gals on stage with pants hanging off their asses? WTF?
As a black youngster growing up in the 1970s groups like the Stylistics, Manhattan s, Chi-Lites, Spinners, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and numerous others made you so proud to be black.
And don't talk about the beautiful elegant female black singers with their classy gowns like Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Patty La Belle, Roberta Flack, Diana Ross, Natalie Cole, Three Degrees, Emotions, Pointer Sisters. 🙏🎀

Back in the time of this classic black people were loved and respected because of these kind of singing groups. Nowadays the "n" thugs sing about screwing, robbing, killing, etc. It is so horrible that black groups have made a ton of money by glorifying sex, drugs, disrespectful behavior and breaking laws. They have shamed what the black groups in the 60's, 70's and 80's fought for. 😢

Breaks my heart every time I hear it. My boyfriend at the time used to sing this to me. I loved him beyond life. A year later he left me for A man. Said he still loved me, can’t have both. I have gone through 2 marriages since. Loved my late husband so much. I held a torch for my first love..but when we connected on the internet years later...he had married his husband and I realised I grieved for someone I knew years ago. Thinking back it wouldn’t have worked as he got more oh, how do you say it? He was masculine with me, but when I met him years later, not the same. It wouldn’t have worked, you are what you are! I have no resentment now.

This is what it really means to sing live, singularly and in harmony. No wonder the singers and bands of today consistently fail to deliver what they churn out in a techno manufactured studio. the ability to deliver vocals live is the ultimate test of anyone and any group. Past = success, modern = failure (generally)

There was a time in the 1970's when my Uncle, who was only 5 years older than me always had KFRC and soul playing. The Stylistics take me back to those warm Summer nights looking at the street lights of the city. Oh, to return to those times.

Doug, I just saw your post in August of 2021, it hit me right in the heart. I could have written that exact sentiment. I also had an uncle who was only five years older than I. Thank you for reminding me of those great times in the bay area, KFRC, KDIA, KSOL etc... we were lucky to grow up when we did. Cruising, going to the drive in, with all that amazing music in the background.

I’m a 63yr old Aussie mum who loved The Stylistics from when I was in primary school and after. I haven’t heard this song for so many years and I know that I will remember all of the words still. It reminds me of my younger sisters and I during a hot Aussie summer during the school holidays. I’m ready to press the play button and get taken back in time ♥️
