    This is so helpful, thank you! When you 'save' at the end, can you continue editing it later? If I can only get halfway through a particularly long form, what's the best way to save and continue to create it later?

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  7 месяцев назад

      Hello! Yes, you can usually continue editing a PDF form later even after saving it. When you save a PDF form, the data you've entered is typically saved within the PDF itself. This means you can close the form and reopen it later to continue where you left off.
      Here's how you can save a PDF form to continue editing later:
      Fill out the form as much as you can.
      - Click on the "File" menu.
      - Select "Save" or "Save As" from the menu options.
      - Choose the location where you want to save the file and give it a name.
      - Click "Save."
      When you reopen the PDF form, you should be able to pick up where you left off. Just make sure to use the same PDF viewer or software to ensure compatibility with the saved data.
      If for some reason you can't continue editing the form later after saving it, you might want to check the settings of the PDF viewer you're using or try using a different viewer. In rare cases, some PDF forms may not retain the entered data upon saving, so it's always a good idea to test it out first before relying on it for important forms.
      I hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos!

    This is great. The only challenge I'm facing is; I've sent the form off and its been sent back completed. Once I save the completed form, the form still has the ability to be edited. How do make it so myself and others are unable to change the fields after it has been saved to a file?

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  9 месяцев назад

      Hello! You can set the field properties (General Tab) to "Read Only" and this will allow the user to fill in the field initially, but then locks the users response after the field is exited (if they tab or click out of the field). This may not be what you want in case you wan the user to be able to correct typos before submitting the form. So there is another way you can tie a JavaScript workflow to your submit button that changes all the field properties to Read Only after the submit button is clicked. I'll work on a video on how to do this. Thanks for watching!

    Hi - this is really helpful. We're sending forms to 1000's of users. What would be the most efficient way to have them "submit" their data to us? If we have them send us the PDF form back, is there a way to rename the file with their "name" (one of our fields)? Or, is there just a better way to do this? In the end, we really just want the data in the form for all of our users who will submit it back to us.

    Dear Sharon
    I have reviewed most of your tutorials, which are excellent, and I have learned a lot and successfully applied it. However, I haven’t found (or maybe I didn’t recognize) what I currently need:
    I have to create a PDF form for a report from a site visit where some installation works will take place. So, our employee arrives at the address with a tablet (the tablet is online, equipped with a camera and stylus), Before he starts site visit, he will download, using the tablet, a pre-prepared form for each location he visits, which already includes basic information about the location, client name, address, contract number, etc.
    At the site, he only needs to fill in a few additional fields in the usual text boxes, but I I can’t reach a solution for a few more fields:
    1. The layout of the location is a pre-inserted image in the form. Our employee needs to mark several points on this image with the stylus, draw a few lines, and enter some numbers, so that this remains recorded on a layer above the image.
    2. There should be an option to insert a photos taken on-site at several designated positions: the idea is that he clicks in the form to initiate the tablet’s camera and immediately inserts the taken photo into the document. Alternatively, he should be able to insert a photo from the tablet’s gallery. After that, he should also be able to draw several lines and enter a few numbers over the inserted photo (as in point 1).
    3. At the end of the report, there should be a field for the client’s signature. When our employee finishes the site visit, he presents the report to the client and offers him/her to sign on the tablet’s display with a finger or stylus. So, NOT a digital signature or certificate, but a handwritten signature.
    I would appreciate it if you could give me advice on how to create fields for these 3 points. Or even better, if you could create a PDF form with these 3 elements (design and field positions are irrelevant) and send it to me.
    Thank you in advance.

    High Sharon, I have a question. I, thanks to your videos was able to create some forms for my church. I recently created a form with some fields that were "required". The form seemed to work well. But I noticed some of the users were not polulating the required fields but were able to save the form and close the file and did not get some type of notification that they did not fill out the the required fields. Is this how acrobat works? I would have expected some type of notification. Can you explain why this happens, I checked out some your videos but they did not address this.

    Is it possible to send the link of a PDF form to someone who doesn't have Adobe PRO so that the person files the form?

    • @SharonSmith

      Hi Chloe, Yes, it is possible to send a link to a PDF form to someone who doesn't have Adobe Pro. The person can still open and fill out the form using free PDF readers like Adobe Reader or other similar software. These free PDF readers often have basic form-filling capabilities, allowing users to enter information into the form fields, select checkboxes, and even add digital signatures if necessary. While they may not have all the advanced features found in Adobe Pro, they are generally sufficient for basic form filling and submission. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hello! It sounds like there may be an issue with the settings or properties of the text boxes in your PDF form. Here are a few things to check and troubleshoot:
      Field Properties: Make sure that each text box is set up as a fillable field. Right-click on the text box, select "Properties," and ensure that the "General" tab has the option "Field is Fillable" checked.
      Tab Order: Check the tab order of the form fields to ensure that it allows users to navigate through all the text boxes in the desired sequence. You can adjust the tab order by going to "Tools" > "Prepare Form" > "More" > "Set Tab Order."
      Field Overlaps: Ensure that the text boxes do not overlap each other or other form elements. Overlapping fields can cause issues with interaction.
      Locked Fields: Check if any of the fields are set to be read-only or locked. If so, you won't be able to fill or edit them. Right-click on the field, select "Properties," and make sure that the "General" tab does not have the "Read Only" option checked.
      Document Restrictions: Sometimes, the document may have restrictions that prevent editing or filling form fields. Check if the document has any security settings applied that restrict form filling or editing. You can view and adjust document restrictions by going to "File" > "Properties" > "Security" tab.
      Compatibility Mode: Ensure that you're using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Pro and that the PDF form is saved in a compatible format for editing and filling forms.
      Hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos!

    Sharon I've search all over the internet, even contacted acrobat but weren't unable to resolve my issue. I'll try to explain my self the best I can to see if you can help me out. Am feeling out an interactive pdf form from the state and then send it to my client to request his e-signature, but when I proceed to send/share it all of the data that I imputed is deleted and he gets a blank form which he is able to sign, when I retrieve it I can not edit the form to input the data for obvious legal reasons. (Form is TC-69c) any thoughts or assistance will be greatly appreciated thank you.

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Год назад

      Hello, do you happen to know what your client is using to open the PDF? I would suggest sending them a link to download the free Adobe Reader: get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=TTGWL47M and have them try and open it with that since there may be issues if they are using another PDF reader. Here are some additional troubleshooting ideas:
      Save a Copy: Before you send the form to your client, save a copy of the PDF with the data you've filled in. This way, you have a backup in case something goes wrong during transmission.
      Check Compatibility: Ensure that your client has a PDF reader that supports interactive forms and e-signatures (like Adobe Reader)
      Flatten the Form: If your client's PDF viewer is causing the data to disappear, you can try "flattening" the form before sending it. Flattening essentially converts the form fields into static text, preserving the data. To do this:
      Open the filled-out PDF in Adobe Acrobat.
      Go to "File" > "Print."
      In the printer options, select "Adobe PDF" as the printer.
      Click "Print," and then save the new PDF with a different name.
      Send this flattened PDF to your client for e-signature.
      Alternative E-Signature Platforms: If the issue persists, consider using an e-signature platform like DocuSign, or Adobe Sign. These platforms allow you to upload a PDF, add signature fields, and send it for e-signature while preserving the form data.
      PDF Form Compatibility: Ensure that the interactive PDF form you're using is compatible with e-signature solutions. Some forms may not work well with certain e-signature platforms, so you might need to reach out to the form provider or your state agency to inquire about compatibility.
      PDF Protection: Protect the PDF file with a password or encryption to prevent unauthorized edits. However, make sure your client can still open and sign the protected PDF without any issues.
      I hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos!

      Could this be done through Method 3 - Auto Populate Using JavaScript
      Allows you to program existing form fields to auto populate from a designated field.
      Useful when your existing form field properties are already named, and you want to set them to auto populate.
      Identify the fields you want to auto populate and their corresponding names.
      Double-click on the field where you want the data to appear.
      Go to the "Calculate" tab and select "Custom Calculation Script."
      Enter the JavaScript code provided in the tutorial, replacing the field names as necessary.
      var field1Value = this.getField("Name1").value;
      this.getField("Name2").value = field1Value;
      5. Click "OK" to save the script.
      6. Preview and test your form to ensure the JavaScript auto population works correctly.

    Great tutorial ! Is there a way to have the "Other:" multiline box so that the box automatically resizes as text is being typed in? So when I print, I don't have to add a java code to print out the complete multi line text. If I don't enter a java code and print I don't get all of the text that was entered into the text box. P.S. Java Code I used is : this.getField("FieldName").textSize=0

    • @SharonSmith
      @SharonSmith  Месяц назад

      Thank you! Unfortunately, Adobe Acrobat's text fields don’t natively support automatic resizing to fit text as it's being typed in. However, the JavaScript code you’re using (this.getField("FieldName").textSize=0) is actually on the right track for making the text size automatically adjust within the field.
      If the goal is to ensure all text is visible when printing, you can try these two options:
      Set Text to Auto-Size: In Adobe Acrobat, you can set the text field properties so that the font size adjusts automatically. Right-click on the text field, go to Properties, and in the Appearance tab, set the Font Size to 'Auto.' This makes the text size shrink to fit the content within the box.
      Dynamic Text Box Size (Script Needed): While Acrobat doesn't support dynamic resizing of the field's box itself, you can use a JavaScript action to increase the text field's height if necessary. This requires a bit more advanced scripting. If you'd like a sample script or more guidance on how to implement this, let me know!
      For printing the full content without using JavaScript, you might need to manually adjust the text box size before printing.
      I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    The blue highlight to show that the fillable box is there doesn't appear, how do I fix that ?

      @SharonSmith  7 месяцев назад

      Hello! Here are some things you can try:
      If the blue highlight indicating fillable form fields isn't appearing in Adobe Acrobat PDF forms, there could be a few reasons for this. Here's how you might fix it:
      Check Form Field Properties:
      - Open the PDF form in Adobe Acrobat.
      - Right-click on the form field that should be fillable and select "Properties".
      - In the Properties dialog box, go to the "Appearance" tab.
      - Ensure that the "Border Color" is set to a color that contrasts with the background, such as black.
      - Also, ensure that the "Highlight Color" is set to blue or another color that stands out.
      - Click "Close" to save the changes.
      Ensure Compatibility:
      Sometimes, older versions of Adobe Acrobat might not display form field highlights properly. Ensure that the PDF is compatible with the version of Adobe Acrobat being used by your viewers.
      Check Viewer Settings:
      The issue might not be with the PDF itself but with the viewer's settings. Advise your viewers to check their Adobe Acrobat settings to ensure that form field highlighting is enabled.
      In Adobe Acrobat, they can go to "Edit" > "Preferences" > "Forms" and ensure that "Show border hover color for fields" is checked.
      Update Adobe Acrobat:
      If viewers are using outdated versions of Adobe Acrobat, encourage them to update to the latest version. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements that might address issues with form field highlighting.
      Test on Different Devices:
      Test the PDF form on different devices and Adobe Acrobat versions to see if the issue persists across all platforms. This will help identify whether the problem is specific to certain setups.
      I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    After clicking preview make sure you reset the data in Edit mode before saving so the test data is not saveed along

    I don't have a button icon. How do I find it?

    Great information. I'm trying to circle a selected word instead of checking beside a word. Similar to a health form you fill out by hand where you circle yes or no after a question. I've seen it done on pdf's but can't recreate it. Somehow they use the action button in conjunction with and image field using a circle as the icon. I've tried copying an pasting and even changing the name but the new and orignal circle both appear when either is selected. I'm not sure where the original got the image of the circle for the icon so I'm wondering if I have to make my own pictures to use as icons. It's a bit difficult to explain but if you have any advice I would appreciate it.
