Hi guys! A footnote! Just to clarify (due to editing for time), the image quality is fantastic on this camera! The noise in the shadows is most likely due to the lack of noise reduction being applied on the raw capture (thank you Seth, www.youtube.com/@LastXwitness for pointing this out...I'm still learning here). If you shoot in SDR or regular log non-raw, you get clean results. Also, it occurs most if you shoot at 5000, which is on the high range of the first base ISO. Once you use 6400, the image cleans up. However, the flashing green/red is still a mystery. I'll continue to use the camera in real world situations and report back what I find.
@@ogonzilla the color shifts in shadows are biggest issue in my opinion. Hopefully it’s just a fw fix. The dynamic range and noise complaints are overblown.

Oh Omar, you and your mannerisms, loved, I wouldn't miss one of your episodes, doesn't matter which camera, I can careless about the Z6, I just haven't seen you in a while and I missed you, glad you're doing well 😊
Omar, your videos are just so full of fun, as well as information, they really are a pleasure to watch. I now rarely use my Fuji kit and take my Zf everywhere I go. I too, found that having it set to Autofocus Continuous works best. And as I have said previously, this camera is just so good, and so easy to use, that I can just concentrate on the shot, and not on fiddling with controls. Finally, loved the shot of your son, but where the heck have the years gone? He is growing so quickly into a fine young man.
Owning and using both z9's and z6iii's i can confirm the flickering around ISO 5000. The camera has dual native ISO of 800 and 6400 when recording in NLog. That being said, shooting at ISO 5000 would be kind of a rookie mistake as even without the flickering youd have more noise at ISO 5000 than ISO 6400. Comparing it to the z9 is fun. The Z9 is clean from iso 800 all the way up to 12,800. However it falls apart fast after 12,800. The z9 has a dual native of 800 and 4000. It gets a little more noise as it gets closer to 4000 but its barely noticable. However the z6iii has better and cleaner lowlight performance past 12,800 and is completely usable at 25,600. The only flicker issue on the z6iii seems to appear around 4000-5000 ISO. Comparing them to the legandary A7siii; it falls apart around ISO 6400 but then cleans up at 12,800. Out of all the cameras the z9 (z8) is the most freeing experience as you could let it ride on auto ISO and nikon has a good ISO smoothing curve built in so it wont abruptly change ISO. The Z6iii you wont want to use auto ISO on for video. In all honesty, these examples of peope pushing shadows and ****itting on the camera for noise in the shadows.... Its just stupid. You should never push your shadows that far for two reasons. One it looks super fake and ugly. Two its extremely amateur as you clearly screwed up on your exposure. Like big time screwed up. My team and I have used Blackmagic Lumix, Sony, Cannon and Nikon. I've cleaned out my locker and gone full nikon for a reason. Its just a rock solid platform nowdays. I still recieve photos and footage from sony and cannon cameras. The z9 and z6iii footage just look so much better and editing is far better. Thats my two cents at least.
"big time screwed up" Not for those that PARTIALLY recover shadows from a SMALL PART of the image. Which becomes even more important when exposure bracketing is not possible (e.g. moving scene/fast action) People who talk about photography who don't shoot should really stop talking about photography.
I found that the low light video is amazing! Ive owned 12 Nikon cameras and the Z6iii imo has the best low light results, I shot a wedding this past weekend with the Z6iii at 12,000 ISO and was blown away at how clean it looks right out of camera, I do not like the tracking for birds or wildlife, everything eles about the Z6iii I love, Its my backup to my Z9 right now hahaha!
You mean to say you aren't acting like you're filming for Hollywood on RUclips and zooming into noise in the corners and just using your camera in the world profession? You're doing it wrong!
@@Giantcappuccino same here, it would be useful to hear about this. Especially on how the tracking compares to the z8/z9 Out of curiosity... Are you looking to photograph mainly smaller birds or all sizes?
Great video, Omar. I am loving the Z6 III. Yesterday, I had to shoot the arrival of Kamala Harris at a fundraiser event, and the camera locked onto the eyes of Secret Service agents 200 feet away from me (they weren't wearing sunglasses)! I was amazed. Never got to see Kamala, however; they sneaked her in the back door!
What I love most about your channel, Omar, is I get to learn about lots of different camera systems. I subscribed years ago for Fuji, but I come back for every video to learn about other systems. 😊 📸
I waited for the Z6III to release, hoping i could replace my Z6 with it. But it's way to expensive for what it does. I paid a few hundred Euros more and got me a Z8. I couldn't be happier. It's amazing.
Of you want to save battery life with the LCD screen flipped out, hit the button on the side of the EVF until it displays it only on the EVF. That way the screen on the back won't come on. But that will make you view the play back in the EVF until you change it back. As far as the dynamic range goes, from my understanding the z6 III has a dual gain sensor like the previous models but they changed things a little. Between ISO 100 and 800 they prioritized dynamic range over the noise. Software can clean up noise pretty good these days. From ISO 800 on up it will prioritize the noise and not the dynamic range. So it may depend on what ISO you shoot at.
@Thirsty_Fox I think that is correct but it's how they did it. They split it so that you still get the dynamic range when under ISO 800 where you need it the most. Too bad that couldn't have used a BSI sensor.
@@carlmcneill1139 Judging by photonstophotos, it's the other way around -- they reduced DR by about 0.5 to 0.75 stops from ISO 100 to 800 compared with the Z6ii. Upwards of 800 they appear to be about the same. Canon has the same issue with trying to improve sensor readout speed and giving up some DR. Sony gave it up on the A9 for the extreme speed, while the A7IV is slow but very high DR. I think it's a challenging physical limitation that they're all trying to balance.
I was hoping to purchase a Z6III but all of these problems with shadow noise, flickering, and dynamic range will have me waiting for the Z6IIIA. I think Nikon doesn't have the partially stacked sensor totally figured out yet. Thanks for the review.
N-Log has lots of issues, starting with a very poor OEM LUT -- suggest just shoot with a flat profile. The Z6III is noisy in the shadows, unfortunately. Looks like this is just a characteristic of the partially stacked sensor, so not likely much can be done to fix it directly. Best hope is that Nikon releases a new improved N-Log with and LUT.
When I was at the test and try event at unique photo, one of the nikon reps made sure to mention the use case of using sunglasses outdoors with the extra bright EVF for wildlife/bird photography as a selling point. That added to the EVF having HDR means being able to see wildlife/birds in vegetation or in trees more easily. It would be good to see more bird/wildlife shooters chime in on this. Hoping to get my hands on a z6iii to run alongside my z8 soon to shoot some fun previz and stunt rehearsal stuff with the @stuntworksactioncinema team.
Subscribed. You really have a way of making your content highly digestive and informative, in a good manner naturally! I bought the Z6 II back in 2023. Paired it with a 24-120 f/4 and the 70-200 vr s. Been overall well pleased Would you recommend upgrading to the Z6 III for the following attributes? - Dynamic range - AF tracking / speed - Speed in general / processing power - Overall functionality - Compared to the Z6 II? I mean if it does a noticeable better job at tracking and overall speed in terms of AF that's probably one thing I'd wholeheartedly welcome, even though I'm by no means not pleased with what I have!
The Dynamic range, Omar says everthing you need to know in the video, expose for your Highlights. AF Tracking and Speed Seems to be on Par with my Z8. You can tell it is much faster when you need to review photos. The camera is instant on and ready to take photos. Overall it is more fun to use than the Z6ii
I had the Z6 III for about two weeks. The only thing that made me return it was the flickering and green/magenta color shifting. I think Nikon need to get an NLOG2 and firmware update to fix or mitigate this issue as best they can. I know dozens of people who returned their Z6 III in the first week of ownership, simply because of this. The exposure issue comes in when shooting video with auto-ISO. Imagine the camera going from clean 6400 ISO to noisy, flickery 5000 ISO, in which case would ruin your footage. Also, I'd like to point out, the issue is in any mode, SDR and HLG as well, so that invalidates that NLOG is the issue. The issue has been narrowed down more or less to a SNR (Signal Noise Ratio) from the sensor and blacklevel. Flickering and colorshifting can be viewed in Davinci's waveform, and you'll notice the RGB channels all flickering, even though the image is static thus negating any argument that changing scenery causes the RGB channels to flicker. It's a bummer beacuse I've waited for the Z6 III for quite a while. I've been using the Z6 II, and the only complaint I had was the lack of video in that camera. The 8-bit 4:2:0 was not great. I didn't want a Z8 beacuse of its size/weight, especially on a stabilizer. The Z6 III fit the bill in terms of basically everything. So, I'm just waiting to see whats out there. I've looked at Sony but their UI and user experience is the worst in the business with idiotic menu's, sub menu's and what not. I guess I'll wait to see what Canon kicks out with their R6 III, which would be a direct competitor to the Z6 III. Sony is also due to release the A7 V, but I highly doubt Sony will put internal RAW recording so I still don't think the A7 V will be on par with the Z6 III in many aspects. Canon though does offer RAW in their R5, R5II, so we could see 6K RAW in the Canon R6 III. I just hate how expensive anything Canon is and worst of all is they have NOTHING that compares to Nikon's stellar 1.8 S primes, that literally blow everything away in terms of performance and value.
I believe super bright EVF's are not meant for sunglasses, but to have more "HDR" style viewing experience, so bright things in real life look bright in the EVF without clipping as much. Just imho. Great video mate!
I was hoping that the z6 iii can be my second body to my Z9 but I didn’t realize Nikon would limit the button customization. You simply can’t map the U mode to any custom buttons. And you have to save setting every time you change something. It is too much of a hassle for a dedicated second body for birding
Interesting point about highlights being a bit bright on the Z6 iii. That's one of the only issues I've ever had with the D500. Wonder why they share that minor flaw.
I did a bunch of video tests with Z6iii and the problem is in N-LOG I got a lot more range and detail in the shadows when shooting SDR but when shooting N-LOG weirdly enough just had so much more noise and less information. adding denoise and flicker reduction helped but by that point...
I was getting seduced by the Zf but wanted to wait and see what the Z6iii offered. Now that it has come out it has made me keep the Z6ii and Z7. For my use case I prefer the smaller form factor trumps what else the Z6iii brings (but that really auto focus might tempt me) - I just appreciate the older models a bit more.
Hey guys be honest with me: I want to buy my first camera and i really like the Nikon colors. Is the z6ii a better choice then the Zf? I got big hands and the Zf looks way too small even with the grip. Everybody is telling me that the autofocus on the Z6ii is bad. Is it really that bad?
@@HalbkanadischesAhornblatt The auto focus on the Z6ii was good enough, 95-98% of the time to shoot dog agility sports. With the Z9 I get more keepers, perhaps 10%+ more. So I'd say it's no slouch. Basically it replaced my D500 which was fast. Z6iii is much faster, but the Z9 has the larger battery so it wins for that reason. Sounds like you need to visit a store and handle some camera bodies to see which one gels with you. I'm trying to get away from SD cards - which the Zf uses and the main deal breaker for ME. Z6ii is not going to be much bigger if at all. You may want to check out the Z8 for your hands (if not your budget... :^(. ). Still, the Zf with a grip just might be OK for you. It's a very personal choice so tough to give advise that would be really useful.
@@ronboe6325thanks a lot! It would be my first camera ever so i think a Z8/9 are way too overpowered for my needs. I‘m very interested in potrait and street fotography, so i don‘t really need the most expensive gear. I tried a Z6ii and a Fuji XH2 in store, but the Fuji has a lot of autofocus problems these days, has a lot of noise and the lenses are very expensive. I‘m gonna try a Zf and how it fits my hands. Sadly i can‘t save pre sets with U1/2/3 on it
I saw color differences between the Z6ii EVF and LCD as well, perhaps mostly a white balance difference. I learned to trust the EVF more on that camera.
I checked my Z6ii, there are some differences, EVF looks perfect, and LCD is more saturated and clipping highlights sooner than EVF, other than that there are no noticeable differences.
I just bought 2 ZFs for my workflow. With 2 Smallrig grips and 2 golden shutter buttons, one with red finish another with black finish to distinguish them. Bomb kit, both in style and capabilities...and budget. Each ZF was €1680 (tax excluded). Z6III price and features make no sense. Z8 is too big/pro for what I do (events).
For events you're right it is overkill for video, sports and wildlife is where the camera shines more it is basically of jack of all trades that was designed to pull ahead of what the competition offers without increasing the megapixels. I didn't buy one because I felt that the Z6III was going to be more like a ZF with a few extra megapixels and it wasn't and I already have a Z8 and a ZF.
Did someone know when you turn off VIBRATION REDUCTION the 70-200 Z cant focus on 200mm??? It seems the lens cant zoom all the range and doest work well. Please help me!
i have A74 but mainly used for video, also we have Z6ii but for photo only due to not consistent on AF in video. Sony A74 is not good for switching Video & photo or hybrid use, very Slow. Now my interest is on Z6iii if Dynamic Range is good enough for wedding events.
Only reason to pick the A7iv would be lenses. Pretty much everything else is better with the Z6iii. ZF could work depending on lens, but I wouldn’t want to hold that camera for long periods at concert gigs with a heavier lens.
Zf is my choice for street and events. One thing to know is that the stills/video switch also includes a monochrome setting (which I love for street) and it's possible to 'bump' the switch into mono when changing from video to stills. It's just a learned motor skill like everything else though, so in time it's not a problem.
I hate Video Editing, so I usually do SDR with a little HLG. RAW & Heif Photos are Excellent. The Dynamic Range doesn't bother me because I do not shoot in Pro Res or Nikon Pro versions. There is a lot of noise spots in viewing the files but it is does have a noisier clunking noise too, when viewing playback or even going into the menu settings. I believe that is from the Sensor being locked down compared to the Zf which doesn't have this feature. So, I know of two other individuals that are having issues with the camera freezing up. One in Canada and another in Australia. It may be incompatibility problem with the Brand. I ran some tests and the card brand in the CFExpress Card Slot was causing this when the camera was moving or shaking. Not when it was stable on a table or tripod. That Card Brand has no problem with the other cameras that I own only to the Z6III. Freezing is when the dials and buttons do not work anymore, not able to turn the camera off and You see an Error message that to be patient Warning. To Resolve this just pop the battery out and then back in. It will reset some of your settings and the video that You were creating is lost. I have showed this to my local camera store personnel, and it froze in front of them also. Tested this out in two different Z6III's that I own, and I think it might be a card issue. The other two individuals that complained about this, used cards that were not on the compatibility list from Nikon. They placed different brand cards and they worked without any problems on their end. The extra features outweigh the problems with this camera, and I love using it. Cheers! 😊
Actually it would be interesting to see how it stacks up against the Zf, which is probably it's closest competitor. I mean to an extent, we expect the Z8/Z9 and the A9 III to do [at least slightly] better since they are in a different class of camera (high-end pro-sumer). This is somewhat what I'd call mid-range, so is the Zf, and the R6 Mark II (and the A7 IV like you mentioned). I will say that from what I've heard though the Z6 III is like a mini Z8 but not quite as fast in terms of AF, but I think a lot of that has to do with the fully stacked sensor vs partially stacked sensor and their readout-speed possibly, although the Zf did show us that the sensor was only part of the story and it was mostly the processor that was holding back the Z6 / Z6 II.
I wonder if there isn't a menue to change the brightness/color settings of the backscreen a/o the EVF. All of my decade-old Lumix cameras (GM1, GX7, G7) have separate settings for Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Red and Blue Tint. (You have to look through the EVF to get to the "Sucher" settings.)
I am a Nikon shooter, but I also have some Fujifilm cameras, and before I switched to nikon I was using my X-T2 (which I still have) and my X-H1 for some pro event work, and I never felt like the AF-C wasn't good enough. Custom AF-C profile to make is as fast as possible, and honestly the camera was absolutely fine in AF-C, even in lower-ish light situations. Sure, my current Z6 is better, but not to the point that I'd say it's a night and day difference. Absolutely usable, I used it for sports as well, and the AF-C + tracking / wide mode on the X-H1 didn't dissapoint. Also, side note : as a part landscape photographer, and you want a 24MP camera for landscape, the Z6III is clearly not the best option, and if you don't like the ergos of the Zf, the Z6 and Z6II are absolutely valid options, since they have the same sensor having a little more DR than the Z6III. I am personally delighted with the files I'm getting from my Z6. I plan on getting a Z6III once it becomes affordable in 4/5 years, but for the moment I'm happy with my Z6, and once I'll have a Z6III, I'll probably just whip it out for faster action scenarios or for video shooting and keep the Z6 on the side if I want a slightly smaller camera with better IQ (and a tilt screen, which is my preference)
The price size and feature set is great and I already have Z glass. Nevertheless I ended up returning 4 Z6IIIs because of sensor problems. These issues don’t seem to be universal and maybe my retailer got sent a bad batch. Yet it will be a while before I try again. Do yourself a favor and look up the Z6III flicker issue. There’s more than a few of us who’ve come across the problem and returned cameras as a result. New sensor teething maybe? We will see. But I wouldn’t buy one for a while to give Nikon a chance to sort their quality assurance problems out.
Hi Omar, thank you. I’ve been going through analysis paralysis on z6iii or z8. I’m going to continue to shoot events using my Zf until you do more testing 😅. Also, I don’t recall you mentioning that you should use AF S on Fujifilm. That’s new to me. Do you have a video on this? Lastly, I love that you gave a nod to Robert May. I’m a big fan of his, especially for wildlife. ❤
that's an awesome video, you are funny!! i was wondering about something- and couldn't find an answer online... may be you know: files are opening on photoshop on 139MB, which is huge. how do you keep quality but set the preferences of the camera to lighter files? thanks!! your new follower :)
Nicely explained. Like to know your opinion for choosing a mirrorless camera. D750 I am using only hobby. Landscape, birds wild life. Some time high speed sports and F1 And family and friends get together. Used Z7ii but too much noise grainy in raw but jpeg is super. So need to do denoising, don’t like to spend time in Lightroom to give photos of family and friends for free and a lot more time consuming. Z8 used price same as z6iii new, which is better?? Saw some videos more grains in z6iii than z6ii. I believe if buy z6ii then need to keep d750 for some high speed shoot. If z8 maybe no need to keep d750. ( don’t know about grains in z8 as higher megapixel) z6iii or z6ii as u said last part???
Great review! Thanks! What about landscape and astro photography? What would you recommend: Canon R5 or Nikon Z6III? I found a new R5 for the same price by the way. I like the grip of R5, and also the shoot button is much more natural for me, 40+ megapixels, but the design of Z6III is more modern and it also has some new features. Very hard choice for me.
Hi is the Z6III blackout free like the Z9? Because how can you shoot a camera all day that has blackouts? I like the Z9 and Z8 but how do they perform in studio do they have banding? The have a small amount of rolling shutter that u tried
I was listening also to Peta pixel, Gerald Undone and others. They all find issues with this sensor regarding dynamic range and some banding at high ISO. I shoot Sony but the ones considering Nikon Z6iii should do some research.
I really hope they don’t swap out the screen for a flippy screen on the Z5ii. Just take the guts of the Zf and put them in the current Z5 body. I have a feeling it will be a flippy screen though since they originally marketed the Z5 as a content creator’s camera, but I really think it’s mostly being used as an affordable stills camera. I can’t spend $3500 on a Z8 just to get a pan/tilt rear screen.
Omar how do you feel about zf vs z6iii viewfinder. Is the latest really better. For my taste coming to mirrorless i have a feeling zf viewfinder colors are not as vibrant as i would want
Omar, love your videos and appreciate your style. I just got the Z6iii and still learning about it. I am curious of what strap you are using . the connectors look like a tamrac, but jsut wanted to verify. Keep up the good work and keep being you.
I'm hoping Sony releases the A7V sooner than later. Even if all they do is add the updated AI autofocus, 4k60 no crop, give it the newer colour science, and maybe improve the screens a bit... I'd probably just get that. I'm at a loss for which camera to get these days as all the current offerings seem to be a compromise (and/or too expensive).
I love my Z6iii now that I've had it for a couple weeks and gotten used to it. One bug I've noticed though is that the rubber eyepiece seems to block the sensor for switching between EVF and Flippy screen. If I turn the camera on, the rear screen displays properly but once I put my eye to the EVF and take it away again, it will not switch back to the rear screen unless I lift up the rubber eyepiece close to where the sensor is, then is switches back to the rear screen. Has anyone else noticed this issue?
Hey Omar, I own a Fuji XT5 and I am one of many, frustrated with the poor low light and autofocus performance. I am thinking of swapping to the Nikon system Which full frame body would you recommend. Nicholas
Is the EVF OLED then it makes sense that it has high contrast and is punchy. Also, did u try holding the camera vertical with Polaroid sunglasses? This is my fav feature of my Zf
“I’m experiencing a problem with my Nikon Zf where the image on the LCD screen appears choppy or laggy, almost like it’s displaying at a low frame rate. This happens in manual mode with settings like 1/200 or 1/160, f/2.8, and ISO 1000-1600, both with and without a flash. The final photos come out fine, but the live view on the LCD is not smooth. I’ve checked the firmware, and it’s up to date. Does anyone know how to fix this?”
Oh, that 4:17 screen closing is EXACTLY the point why that "articulation" is pure marketing deceiving af all of us! Is unintuitive to open, to position or close, taking us precious seconds while in a hurry...
Great video, thank you for doing that. (I just subscribed!) I think maybe you have answered my question before (but I couldn’t find it), I’m no professional, and though I do love to shoot wildlife and landscape, you think I’ll be ok with this Z6iii shooting landscape and nature? I will print up to 32” long and tall pictures. Everyone I know around me in my area are not pixel peepers. I’d even say here in Maine; everyone buying prints are tourists, for the most part. Now; mind you I am coming from a new Olympus OM-1 camera, would I be experiencing better DR and less noise? Just curious what your thoughts are and…. Would a software update be able to fix the DR issue everyone keeps talking about? Thanks in advance.
I hope your videos are on top of the Nikon watchlist. The insights of working photographers should steer them towards a better experience. Always informative. Zf is on top of my Wishlist. Carry on. 👍🥂
I'm a Z6 II owner ... do you recommend me to upgrade to Z6 III ???? I'm also a Enthusiast , not making money from photography ... Thank you , waiting for your answer .
I don’t shoot video but for photos only if you want or need the considerably better autofocus. If you would appreciate that the 6iii will seem streets ahead.
It depends on your needs & use case. If you're more into slow and deliberate shooting like portraits and landscapes, then no. My Z6 I is great for this. One of my biggest frustrations with the Z6 was the lack of speed. Not frame rate or even autofocus - even though tracking left a ton to be desired... Speed as in the ability to adapt to changing conditions quickly - to not get in my way under certain situations. This is where the Z6III really shines. The available focus modes and the customizable buttons for them - It is a highly adaptable & very fast camera to operate. For sports, wildlife, street... it really is miles ahead.
Omar, 1. Thanks for the review., 2. As always, I am constantly confused by camera names... A7, Z4 mark III, IV, V, XXMMDDIIX, EV10, XYZ6HJEFBHEWHFUWEHUHHBEWFWUFEUWH mark 27.95000000001 etc................... AGGH!... And what the heck is a bit rate???
I really hope they make a z7iii with 60mp and high DR. Z8/9 build for speed and video, Which I don't need. Also DR isn't the best. The z6iii is not enough megapixel and that poor DR is big no no for me
I have been working with D750 for many years and I want to buy this camera, is the highlight so worrying compared to a D750? I feel like they are being very extreme with the criticism. I need an answer, in my country it is very difficult to change cameras. Thanks ♥
I don't know if you mentioned or noticed this but other reviewers noticed an oddity with the Z6iii - terrible noise at ISO 5000, but almost nil at ISO 6400 - not sure if it is stills only or video too. This might have to do with the dual ISO support and/or the partially stacked sensor.
It seems the Z6iii behaves a bit like the d500 in this respect, I always ETTL with it, where the d850/zf/z8/z9’s are a lot more forgiving on highlights ;)
@@bsc001 that's good. Canon you normally expose for the shadows and Nikon for the highlights.. because easier to bring back Nikon shadows. And easier for Canon to bring back highlights
the whole DR thing is such a nothing burger. if DR was such a massive selling point we would all be shooting GFX or nikon d800e ( still the best DR of any full frame camera. yes a 2012 camera.. ) really interested in future videos about the Z6iii, i want to get it for video. And yes the lack of NR in raw is what makes it noisey in the shadows. sony has nr baked into it.
Many of the people have reported that the dynamic range isn't good. That would be the reason for the noise and for a 24 megapixel camera. That is simply unacceptable. Flip put screens Noooo 😮 I would buy a Nikon Z7ii over this
In Europe you can buy 2 grey market Z6II's for the price of one Z6III almost. The DR loss is a bit disappointing, it certainly clips highlights quite easily v the previous 24mp BSI sensors. Wonder if they do a Z7III without any stacked sensor compromises?
Hi guys!

Thanks for chiming in!!!
"big time screwed up"
Not for those that PARTIALLY recover shadows from a SMALL PART of the image.
Which becomes even more important when exposure bracketing is not possible (e.g. moving scene/fast action)
People who talk about photography who don't shoot should really stop talking about photography.
How would you compare the autofocus of the Z6III with that of its peers from other brands?
It’s spelt Canon. Cannon is the big gun.
The way you tell things always makes me laugh, so refreshing not to be so serious all the time 😂 chuchunkkkk
How come you say you don't like the tracking for birds or wildlife?
@@estefaniaalmarte6924 I'm curious too, because I have been considering this camera exactly for that - Birding
@@Giantcappuccino same here, it would be useful to hear about this. Especially on how the tracking compares to the z8/z9
Out of curiosity... Are you looking to photograph mainly smaller birds or all sizes?
I just like your sense of humor and your content. Thank you so much!
I appreciate that!
Omar I love your content. Clear, cut, and concise.
Man! The Kamala AF test would’ve been great
I tried the Z6iii and the EVF was absolutely incredible. Really liked it.
I got a Zf a few months ago and I love it! I’m about to get a Z6II as a backup / secondary. I don’t need a Z6III but it looks very cool.
You brighten up my day with all you videos. I enjoy every minute of your personality. 😅
What I love most about your channel, Omar, is I get to learn about lots of different camera systems. I subscribed years ago for Fuji, but I come back for every video to learn about other systems. 😊 📸
Love your honest reviews. Thank you
I waited for the Z6III to release, hoping i could replace my Z6 with it. But it's way to expensive for what it does. I paid a few hundred Euros more and got me a Z8. I couldn't be happier. It's amazing.
I was also expecting a stills camera with that Af in lower price segment.
It's weird how much the prices differ between cameras and countries. Here in Finland without discounts Z6 III costs 3000€ and Z8 costs 4800€(!). 😅
@@Buhis I got my z8 with a discount for 3900€
Same! I'm keeping my Z6 for a walkaround and using my new Z8 for landscapes. I love it.
@@audamus6452 I got my Z8 from B&H and paid 3495.00
Noise goes hand and hand with dynamic range.
@livejames9374 that's true but Nikon has done something different with the way they handle both with this dual gain ISO.
@@carlmcneill1139 My understanding is they traded off dynamic range for sensor readout speed.
Yep, I’ve been tempted to get a Z6iii but the list of shortcomings has be waiting for a Z7iii
Been overall well pleased
Would you recommend upgrading to the Z6 III for the following attributes?
- Dynamic range
- AF tracking / speed
- Speed in general / processing power
- Overall functionality
- Compared to the Z6 II? I mean if it does a noticeable better job at tracking and overall speed in terms of AF
that's probably one thing I'd wholeheartedly welcome, even though I'm by no means not pleased with what I have!
Just imho. Great video mate!
all I can say is… HOLLY SH*+% your son is a GROWN MAN! thanks for the content but man, congrats on your beautiful family
Great video Omar, from the perspective of an event, wedding and potrait shooter.
I think because of the noisier sensor in Z6iii they shifted the tonal curve a bit more to highlights.
I did a bunch of video tests with Z6iii and the problem is in N-LOG I got a lot more range and detail in the shadows when shooting SDR but when shooting N-LOG weirdly enough just had so much more noise and less information. adding denoise and flicker reduction helped but by that point...
Omar, are you recommending this for wildlife (birding) or no? Thanks!
What lens did you use at your family gathering? The photos look great. Thanks in advance and for making this review as well!
4:14 workaround for this is to just change to evf only view at the left side
You are new camera looking small and nice in your hands lol , thanks for sharing
I can confirm, the auto focus is great. I’m loving it, coming from Z6ii. Still have it, don’t plan on selling it either.
Sadly i can‘t save pre sets with U1/2/3 on it
I wanted to wait to see what the Z6 III brought to the table, to compare to the ZF.
I Just sold both Z6 II bodies for a pair of ZF bodies.
I didn't buy one because I felt that the Z6III was going to be more like a ZF with a few extra megapixels and it wasn't and I already have a Z8 and a ZF.
i am loving my ZF...
Did someone know when you turn off VIBRATION REDUCTION the 70-200 Z cant focus on 200mm??? It seems the lens cant zoom all the range and doest work well. Please help me!
I used Nikon for 25 yrs , 5 yrs ago I moved to Sony which I’m very happy with but I’ll always love Nikon ❤️
Get a side Nikon. No one will judge lol.
I've tried so many Sony cameras but none was giving as pleasant colors as Nikon, so I finally said goodbye to Sony for good.
Glad you made this video it saved me a lot of money. I canceled mine 👍🏻
I’m in a big dilemma now, Nikon Zf, Nikon Z6iii or Sony A7iv. What would be the best hybrid option for street photography and concert photography?
i have A74 but mainly used for video, also we have Z6ii but for photo only due to not consistent on AF in video.
Nikon ZF all the way. Get a grip and thats it. Save money, same image quality for photos.
Zf is my choice for street and events. One thing to know is that the stills/video switch also includes a monochrome setting (which I love for street) and it's possible to 'bump' the switch into mono when changing from video to stills. It's just a learned motor skill like everything else though, so in time it's not a problem.
Nikon Z8 in a word. The Nikon lens selections are stellar.
Cheers! 😊
Thanks for adding to this. Great info
The xtrans v cameras are less reliable than even the xh1/xt2 gen cameras
Thanks for that info Omar, can you test the dinamic range between Z6 II and the Z6 III
Bill Claff did it in the most precise way, you won't find any better testing done.
The Z6III EVF is great for sun at the beach, I was able to use the viewfinder to review images without glare that the back of the screen might show.
I think the bright view finder was associated with movie mode?? Does it make it easier to see what you're filming through an ND filter?
Exactly which AF-C mode did you shoot your son running with? Also, 07:35 , my feelings exactly!
Did you use thumb slide for moving af spot in the view finder? It would be great if they can do that for Z6II with firmware update.
This is great for evf, I use sunglasses all the time and I really have a problem with the Z5, it's too dark for me!
Great video as usual. Have you tried this camera with the FTZ ii adapter with some fmount lenses?
that's an awesome video, you are funny!! i was wondering about something- and couldn't find an answer online... may be you know: files are opening on photoshop on 139MB, which is huge. how do you keep quality but set the preferences of the camera to lighter files? thanks!! your new follower :)
crazy Omar, Nikon is not the main subject anymore, that's you 😋
I'm not sure it's the RUclips or the camera, but I feel like the white balance is better on this z6iii.
does the weird shadow flicker occur when NOT shooting N-Log, say a standard profile for example?
Yes to the flickering.......
I stopped to buy z6iii for the issue in video shadows…waiting so bad your next tests
hi there, is a fuji xt2 battery grip worth it? will it be very heavy? I can find good used one around 40 - 60 usd
So, do you recommend sony A7R iv over nikon z7 in terms of dynamic range?
I’m getting the green and magenta shadow flicker in N-Log too. Hopefully it gets fixed via firmware. Does the Z8 have this issue?
I really hope they don’t swap out the screen for a flippy screen on the Z5ii. Just take the guts of the Zf and put them in the current Z5 body. I have a feeling it will be a flippy screen though since they originally marketed the Z5 as a content creator’s camera, but I really think it’s mostly being used as an affordable stills camera. I can’t spend $3500 on a Z8 just to get a pan/tilt rear screen.
Omar how do you feel about zf vs z6iii viewfinder. Is the latest really better. For my taste coming to mirrorless i have a feeling zf viewfinder colors are not as vibrant as i would want
the EXACT face I make when taking photos and having to deal with the side flipping articulating screen on my X-H2
Omar, love your videos and appreciate your style. I just got the Z6iii and still learning about it. I am curious of what strap you are using . the connectors look like a tamrac, but jsut wanted to verify. Keep up the good work and keep being you.
You have such a cool job bro...
What happened to the Z6 1 and Z6 2?
Nice video as always. What is your take on the AF compared to the ZF, after some more time with it?
It's good. Both snappy snap.
Hey Omar, I own a Fuji XT5 and I am one of many, frustrated with the poor low light and autofocus performance. I am thinking of swapping to the Nikon system Which full frame body would you recommend. Nicholas
On a budget? Z6II. Got the cash? Zf or Z6III? Super pro making $$? Z8 is the best.
Is the EVF OLED then it makes sense that it has high contrast and is punchy.
Also, did u try holding the camera vertical with Polaroid sunglasses? This is my fav feature of my Zf
all cameras nowadays have OLED EVFs.
He has your smile
Hey Omar, would you say this camera is worth the upgrade if you're coming from the Z6ii?
yes
Oh, that 4:17 screen closing is EXACTLY the point why that "articulation" is pure marketing deceiving af all of us! Is unintuitive to open, to position or close, taking us precious seconds while in a hurry...
Great video, thank you for doing that. (I just subscribed!)
I think maybe you have answered my question before (but I couldn’t find it), I’m no professional, and though I do love to shoot wildlife and landscape, you think I’ll be ok with this Z6iii shooting landscape and nature? I will print up to 32” long and tall pictures. Everyone I know around me in my area are not pixel peepers. I’d even say here in Maine; everyone buying prints are tourists, for the most part.
Now; mind you I am coming from a new Olympus OM-1 camera, would I be experiencing better DR and less noise?
Just curious what your thoughts are and…. Would a software update be able to fix the DR issue everyone keeps talking about?
Thanks in advance.
If I was mostly landscape photography, I’d go with the z7 line. So nice
Great video 🎉
I know you are a photographer. Can you review panasonic s9?
Are you struggling to find S9 reviews???
Those all look like advertisements to me love to hear his opinion
I hope your videos are on top of the Nikon watchlist. The insights of working photographers should steer them towards a better experience. Always informative. Zf is on top of my Wishlist.
Carry on. 👍🥂
Excellent comment, I totally agree.
You can prevent battery life loss By just having the camera set to evf only.
Why would you want to switch to a more expensive, heavier, and noisier camera?
03:41 😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Confirming that I have the « cha-chunk » (;-)) issue with the picture review on (and the floppy screen closed).
Thanks! I showed the Nikon folk but no fix yet.
Yay 🎉
I really hope they make a z7iii with 60mp and high DR. Z8/9 build for speed and video, Which I don't need. Also DR isn't the best. The z6iii is not enough megapixel and that poor DR is big no no for me
dude already looking for the next camera when the paint is still wet on this one. word is advice, it’s not the camera
I have been working with D750 for many years and I want to buy this camera, is the highlight so worrying compared to a D750? I feel like they are being very extreme with the criticism.
I need an answer, in my country it is very difficult to change cameras.
Thanks ♥
Can you Please review the New Pentax Camera?
I don't know if you mentioned or noticed this but other reviewers noticed an oddity with the Z6iii - terrible noise at ISO 5000, but almost nil at ISO 6400 - not sure if it is stills only or video too. This might have to do with the dual ISO support and/or the partially stacked sensor.
In video yes. My example in this video shows 5000 and clean 6400
2nd native ISO kicks in at 6400.
underexposing has always been a thing for all nikons
It seems the Z6iii behaves a bit like the d500 in this respect, I always ETTL with it, where the d850/zf/z8/z9’s are a lot more forgiving on highlights ;)
no problems with Z6ii/7ii
@@bsc001 that's good. Canon you normally expose for the shadows and Nikon for the highlights.. because easier to bring back Nikon shadows. And easier for Canon to bring back highlights
the whole DR thing is such a nothing burger.
if DR was such a massive selling point we would all be shooting GFX or nikon d800e ( still the best DR of any full frame camera. yes a 2012 camera.. )
really interested in future videos about the Z6iii, i want to get it for video. And yes the lack of NR in raw is what makes it noisey in the shadows. sony has nr baked into it.
You must be living in the 90s, D800e DR has long been matched by current mirrorless cameras and the GFX is slow.
@@JojoJoget ya you see. you might be right but you are wrong :'(
so what's speed got to do with DR? enlighten pls
Many of the people have reported that the dynamic range isn't good. That would be the reason for the noise and for a 24 megapixel camera. That is simply unacceptable.
Flip put screens
Noooo 😮
I would buy a Nikon Z7ii over this
In Europe you can buy 2 grey market Z6II's for the price of one Z6III almost. The DR loss is a bit disappointing, it certainly clips highlights quite easily v the previous 24mp BSI sensors.
Wonder if they do a Z7III without any stacked sensor compromises?
Hahha 7:36, that! Exactly that!
Omar, you've gone a little grey
The dreaded "cha-chunk" issue. C'mon Omar...not everyone can understand this level of technical jargon.
