- By today's standards, Elvis Presley's on-stage actions would be nothing to talk about, but in the 1950s, it was cause for national controversy.

True historians know that Elvis learned those hip moves from a young boy named Forrest Gump.
and i started movin my hips
Forrest Gump was never real. And, no. The joke didn't fly over my head.
@@edgarbanuelos6472 we know he isnt real LoL
Wonder what ever happened to that boy
@@edgarbanuelos6472 The fact you had to point it out just makes me think you didn’t get the joke...
Remember reaching this point in my American History course. It brought a strong sense of relief because of how insanely socially conservative the society had become by the 1950s. Seeing Elvis dance, the teens in amazement and the parents in rage was great.
And to think that today's music videos are way worse than Elvis Gyrating on TV.
@@kylereese5869 for sure lol
Elvis was sexy as hell but I honestly think those moves just came out of him like his voice. They were spontaneous and unrehearsed when he started out. Who can stand still listening/playing/singing that music? His whole body became an expression of whatever song he performed.
“
Elvis's music is about an idea, you see? Where every man is free to follow his own path, do his own thing. Where every man is a king in his own right.
You can never have "Too Much" of Elvis' waist
That's what both my grandmas said
I despise people who say Elvis Presley "stole rock & roll". You can't steal a genre, people are just mad he was an insanely talented musician
He was talented yes but he did also make covers of songs so a lot of people would skip on the original artists who in many cases were extremely talented themselves in an effort to appeal to the white norm
I don’t hate Elvis, I love him but I acknowledge this as the reality of the time he was from
@@sotneagull7557 Of course, but to my knowledge, he never claimed to create those songs. And his biggest well known songs are his own. I'm not defending him but there are dozens of artists now making money off of covering old songs/sampling tons of content from them on their own music
Talented I guess yeah but I wouldn't say extremely. In my opinion he's super overrated for the time period. Kind of like Kurt Cobain who was/is very overrated. Not that either are horrible artists undeserving of their recognition but they definitely aren't the best of their time and many of their songs suck.
@@lucifer2b666 Elvis and Kurt Cobain were the figureheads of huge evolutions of music and culture. It's about so much more than their music.
I literally can't resolve the concept that people back then thought even the merest hint of anything sexy was bad yet still had families of 20+ children.
Weirdly enough, households like that are influenced by religious beliefs. The church used to teach people that contraception is evil. There's also other mormon beliefs which made them think having a large family is a powerful status symbol.
I'd like to say they were extremists on one side, now we're on the other
Mantis making a video about Elvis seems strangely fitting
Michael Jackson might've been a bigger star, but no man could drive women to pure insanity like Elvis did
He made their brains melt. Legends say some went to mental institutions because of elvis.
@@WoodChuuck
Elvis: *smiles*

Michael doesn't even come close to Elvis what are you talking about, elvis is the real deal.
the beatles..
If Elvis toured outside of America he would have been bigger.
Elvis was not the king of rock and roll. He was THE KING.
THE KING, my dad calls him because he died on the throne... yeah that’s embarrassing still god save the KING!!!
THE UH KINGUHA
If he's the king, then who's MJ?!
@@undefeatableyt7 the king of pop..

Every time Elvis is mentioned my uncle loves to point out that he was stationed in the same barracks in Germany as him (ten years later though)
Cool
Imagine gyrating on stage
This post was made by the Frank Sinatra gang.
Really love this style of video, would like to see more. Also it reminded me of how people now are canceled for stupid things on the internet but like a 1950s version of it.
Ed Sullivan: this is the most outrageous thing I’ve even seen in the history of music!
Nicki Minaj: Hold my 🐈
You mean that time when Elvis' pelvis threatened to make America itself assume the position.
Elvis was a gigachad
My favorite member of The Kings
As someone who is a big fan of music and music history, this was awesome man! I'd love too see more music related content from you.
Love Elvis. Glad you made a video on him. I do "Elvis" playthroughs in Fallout where I have High Speech and Lady Killer Perk.
Really would love to see more videos like this. Keep em coming👍
Great video, I mean it, I'm a fan of your vids in general, but this particular one felt special, I know you're a fan of Elvis and it shows, cause' even though it's a short video I felt passion from the beginning and made me wish it was a longer one.
Hella entertaining Mantis, keep doing what you do.
your background music choices are god-tier
Thanks Mantis, I’m about as big of an Elvis fan as I am a Fallout fan. Nice video to wake up to
Same. I have been borderline obsessed with the man since I was a young child.
I like ur profile pic!
You know, I didn’t realise this was your channel. Nice video. Doesn’t hurt to not cover other stuff not fallout related.
Not what I was expecting on this channel but still a great watch Mantis :D
Thank you for creating this video. There were a lot of things I never knew until now😊
Thanks for this video, I'm the biggest Elvis and Fallout fan on Earth.
Decades later he still makes us go crazy with that wiggle 😍
People were annoyed for elvis presley gyrating his hips 🙄
They should have seen nicki minaj today and would be dead by heart attack 😄
I like the mix up with the different content its fun
I’m really loving these non fallout vids besides the main fallout stuff keep it up man!
It’s sad some of my class mates don’t know who Elvis is
2022 well now they do lol
U fuckin kidding me?
I think the only person to rival how much sauce Elvis had was Michael Jackson
It's nice to see both you and thomas beckett branch out a bit from the fallout videos.
I love this....baby. AhThank you very much 🤘🏻
Just remember: the king died on the throne...with his pants down
Of all the amazing things he's done, thats how you want to remember him?
That’s why my father calls him the king.
@Mark Cazan Who hurt you? Like wtf kind of trauma upsets you to say something like this???
ooo...someone is a jealous hater, you poor pitiful thing.
Not sure how I never saw this video, nice work as always!
i was one of the kids who saw it on tv - only showed him from waist up - it was fine with me.
Fantastic video. I hope you make more content like this in addition to your usual fallout content.
This was an different but very interesting video thanks man😂👌
.... This is why I'm this misinformation is problematic, like he didn't even talk about the ridiculously prevalent music theft that happened back than that Elvis helped do.
A bit unrelated but didnt he get drafted into the army at some point?
Yes in 1958 👍
@@vickonstark7365 I looked it up and It says he was drafted in 1953 which would be the Korean war, but if you are right then it was probably vietnam
@@Medestros 1958 was before the regular US military was in Vietnam, by about 7 years, Elvis only served in Germany, and I'm pretty sure he served from 1958.
@@thetrippedup9322 when I looked it up it says they got fully involved in 1954, and you said he served in germany, do you mean he served in the german army or he served in ww2 fighting germany which would be wrong
@@Medestros By 1954 the US were paying about a billion dollars a year to fund the French Army in Indochina/Vietnam, so I assume funding, and presumably advisers to the new Southern government, is what they mean by involved. US ground troops only got involved in 1965 when the US Marines landed, before that they had advisers, which Elvis definitely wasn't. Elvis served in Germany in the US Army, guarding Western Europe against the Eastern Bloc, which was arguably the main focus of the Cold War, both sides holding onto their positions in Europe.
#Grateful 🙏 thank you 😊
Great history video it would be cool if you did more stuff like this but on more obscure topics
Jesus that intro has to be one of the best I've ever heard
Epic Family Guy reference
great video. Thanks
The KING 🤴🏼 OF ROCK & ROLL
I'd be 100 percent down with more of these
Ed Sullivan was not impressed. I think he was intimidated.
I always heard of this.
I came here curious what was so bad about Elvis hips. That is so tame. I still can't understand how it was bad.
The real problem here is Elvis never publicly acknowledging Forrest for teaching him these sick moves
Covering some pre-apocalypse americana does make sense for a channel covering post-apocalpyse americana.
Now this is the tops
My grandmother met Elvis when she was working at a hotel. This was when he was just starting out and was getting big regionally. She wasn’t impressed. Said he was short with her and other people there and thought of himself as a big shot.
Don’t sound like EP..I’m sorry he was most humble..even when he got really big..he never refused an autograph
Yeh right.
Nice to see you making more non-fallout videos :)
It is because of Elvis doing all of this why it is not so shocking now as everyone else copied and then did their thing, if it was still shocking it would mean that Elvis didn't succeed.
I liked the video! Though, part of me does wish this was part of a larger video about censored artists in general.
Edit: Maybe a series of videos? Either way, I wouldn't mind seeing more video's like these.
I don't know if you talk about history I feel like you should talk about everything with that history not just the cliff notes...
And the funny thing is that the obscene Elvis the pelvis went on to be more well known than Ed Sullivan after the era
It's staggering to see how severely slightly suggestive content triggered the older generations.
Nowadays the roles seem to be reversed, when you see young people raging about minor inconveniences on the internet.
Are we extremely degenerate now compared to the older generation? Or did people back then do the same things we did now but kept it secret?
Are you spying on me? I was just listening to an Elvis album.
Yet no one ever mentioned the beach Boys hula dancers being provocative
Do you still make other videos like this? All I can see on your channel are gameplays.
Your voice reminds me of Penn Badgley
For Pete’s sake, he wasn’t twerking! LOL.
Elvis, the King
What kind of life did people live if this shocked them? No life at all?
Hi Mantis! Have you seen and did you like the Elvis (2022) movie?
Sullivan doesn't want to associate with Elvis, but isn't he with CASTRO at 2:04 mark?
What an interesting part of fallout history
Man who knew the king was canceled 300 years before the game. Guess he didn't have rex then.
Well this was random...
But I'm not disappointed either... 🤷♀️
Things have been a lot better since you helped with those soldier boys
THE KING 😏
Elvis?????? OH???????
It stings that they couldnt get any of his songs in any of the fallout games. Wouldve loved to walk down the pathes of megaton while hearing jailhouse rock, Or gambling in the new vegas casinos while listening to Aint nothing but a hound dog.
The hordes of teenage girls gave me the intrusive thought of "What if stan Twitter existed in the mid-20th century?"
Kings 4 life
*Imagine if they saw Lil Nas X, Sam Smith and NLE Choppa perform today.* 😂
the gyrating was fine with me - lol
The King!
Greatest dancer ever!
It’s funny looking back on how him thrusting his pelvis was considered extremely inappropriate considering what we have today
There is also the whole situation where Elvis basically stole black people's music like Hound dog that that was originally made by Big Mama Thornton. I don't know how responsible Elvis was with this stuff but this is a modern controversy.
Elvis the king forever
Amazing what you could learn from black Pentecostal preachers in the 30 and 40s Elvis was a genius figuring out how to control an audience
What’s up mantis
Elvis wasn't the King he was "The Pelvis"
Meanwhile, 2020 to 2021:
WAP
Elvis would later say that the TV show stunt where they had him singing to a Basset hound was stupid
“Many people haven’t been famous as Elvis, not before not since”
…so we just gonna ignore Michael Jackson?
Many, not no one
Nice
What’s the name of the rap song at the end please?? Thank you
In short not allowed to make u happy
Elvis: *moves hip*
*you have become vilified by AMERICA*
What's the song you used in the beginning? shazam keeps giving me some Chinese guy's rendition
I am not sure, I used the YT Audio Library and do not remember the name.
There's this guy called Jordan Peterson who I listened to and one time he said (In order to think you have to risk being offensive) I swear like 7 years ago I would be able too say more and I don't want a future were I want my kids if I have any to live in one were there speach is even more regulated than it is today
Oh god a Peterson's fan, hey dude has anyone been arrested because of Bill C16 yet? You know the one that "made" people have to use pronouns, I mean it's been what 3 years since they passed it. You'd expect this big bad bill that JP was talking to have done something already no?
@@CloppingIsMyThing um, idk what your talking about but I'm not looking for a political discussion.
@@CloppingIsMyThing also I just like Peterson as I think he's quite a smart man and his philosophy is interesting to me and I agree with a lot of it, if you don't agree with Peterson that's completely fine but I don't know why you have to come off condescending for me just liking someone and I haven't made an argument on what you're talking about, currently I'm just trying to relax and I don't mind having conversations on philosophy and issues but if you're going to come at me condescendingly while trying to get into an argument in a RUclips comments about why I'm wrong for an argument that I didn't make under mantis's video, I just think that's a bit petty and inappropriate.

"Hey I really like this person but I don't understand anything about him" - you 2020
Jordan Peterson has a lot of repugnant, damaging beliefs that hurt people who thinks his helping them. You saying you believe in them is not only an attack at me but the people I love and care about, if you don't understand his beliefs then don't say you believe in them.
(Here's just a few of those beliefs you defend: he believes in a hierarchical society, he has repugnant views on addicts, he's transphobic, he believes men and women should be separated from the workforce, his religious(specifically the religion that thinks I'm immoral for just being me), his "bootstraps attitude" landed him in a coma because he wouldn't listen to experts... And he teaches that attitude)

A very comprehensive series on Jordan Peterson famous Book, with small amounts of criticism of his other works sprinkled in, I think that's good enough for step 1. But I know you won't challenge your beliefs.
Next, nice apologetics for Christianity views on homosexuals, you're honestly saying Christianity hasn't done repugnant things to homosexuals and hold repugnant beliefs on them? I've read the Bible and read history books. Case and point: Noah and Ham (Genesis 9:20-27), Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:1-11), Levitical laws condemning same-sex relationships (Leviticus 18:22, 20:13), two words in two Second Testament vice lists (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; 1 Timothy 1:10), and Paul's letter to the Romans (Romans 1:26-27).
Also religion isn't the problem, it's when religion is a detriment to the human race, thats the problem. Never seen a Buddhist do something evil.
