Sure, they almost entirely destroyed the visuals of all 3 games by leaving it up to AI upscaling and having no humans review the games, but at least they had humans make sure to remove those confederate flags. Clearly their priorities were in order.
Think the only reason they removed that flag is so they could sell this game on the app store since it's also for mobile devices. Apple did ban the confederate flag from the app store back in 2015 so it makes sense, but still shows how this would've been better off being a console/PC exclusive.
Taking down the original versions combined with no details about the updates and no hard gameplay footage. Add a review embargo on top of it for a rerelease and you knew it was basically a flaming tornado siren.

This last time around, they made rules allowing right-to-repair, which compelled Apple to start selling macbook and iphone parts. They take public commentary on what they need to be doing before they implement the rule changes. Like, defending video game mods could be something they would do. Check out Leondard French's recent video about the DMCA changes for more info. TKs, why not get with the other video essayists and start building a campaign to organize all the viewers to fight for video game preservation and modding, as art for the former (because each of the original GTAs are legitimately art, created for the same reasons and pressures as any sculpture collections or oil paintings, and took more effort than the Sistine Chapel), and as fair use for the latter?
Ok so this is a complete side bit to the actual video, but the new coke classic coke debacle is actually a lot different (and arguable more interesting) then how you put it. First it should be known that “new coke” was actually just Diet Coke given it’s sugar back. When Diet Coke was created they actually changed the base recipe to make it its own thing. Because of the big success of Diet Coke, which actually kind of came from it having a new taste external to the diet aspect, they decided to try and change the old recipe with the new more liked recipe. Funny enough when they did blind trials between classic and new the vast majority of people preferred the new. Now the massive blunder coke did was instead of releasing the “new coke” as it’s own individual soda, or just quietly alter the recipe without mentioning it they decided to make it a big add campaign that they were changing the formula, and completely stopping the producing of classic coke. Now the vast majority of people didn’t care since cola is cola, but a large enough vocal minority hated this hard shift with a very bright burning passion. In the end this passion was just nostalgia mixed with the fear of change, and most people didn’t really care for the taste change/improvement, and were only angry because something was changing. That said though they were loud enough to get people’s sway, and coke swapped back with classic coke, and it should be noted it was a very costly swap so you know good on the big corp completely wasting all that money. Really shows they know what they’re doing (tongue deep in cheek). In the end it’s very interesting since it’s both Coke’s fault cause they fundamentally whiffed on how to release this as well as the consumer’s fault since when it came down to taste people usually preferred the new over the classic, but because some Powell didn’t want change a better version of coke got dropped.
When it comes to the soundtrack I think a lot of people don't realise that it's not just a question of money. Not all houses would liscence their music again. The Jackson Estate for example is infamous for being very stingy on licensing now.
I gotta correct you the new coke thing was a case of the new recipe going over universally well in trials, the people who loved original coke were furious and very vocal and it caused the new recipe to tank. It wasn't, or at least not considered to be, a case of intentionally sabotaging their own product to bring back the old one with renewed interest. Unless things have changed on that story since I last heard about it, Coke-Cola was entirely confident in New Coke, they really got screwed by the loyalty to the original recipe that long time coke fans had. They really should have just released the new recipe as it's own brand and kept the original but then again trial runs of the new recipe were going over great according to them so they felt it would be fine. I'm just saying, from what I know that isn't a case of "do something really egregious so when you do something a little less egregious it looks acceptable" as far as I know.
@@TKsMantis I think the common conception is that it was intentional, and don't get me wrong there are so many cases of that kind of ridiculous behavior by corporations, but I just felt it was worth mentioning that the new coke fiasco was just a screw up. The analogy still works but I just thought it was worth pointing out. I am not defending Coke-Cola and I almost never defend corporations, but I just feel we should be fair if they didn't actually do something scummy. This whole thing with the GTA Trilogy is utterly ridiculous and I agree with every point you made about it. Rockstar 100% has the money, as does Take Two, to have remastered these legendary games correctly. For me, Rockstar was already falling off the cliff in terms of anti-consumer nonsense and this is just more of that pattern. All the in game purchases, the way they barely update RDO, the aggressive monetization that gives a huge disadvantage to newer players, what they've done to mods, the lack of single player DLC, they've been on a run of bad choices that go against what customers want. I'm glad you're calling them out. I hope my comment didn't come off as disrespectful, I just like to be fair about these things. As bias as I am against corporations and their shitty behavior, I still only try to criticize them when it's due.
The solution to these problems is exceedingly simple: refuse to pay full price for video games. If paying full price is an exception rather than a rule, you won't get fucked. And if everyone did this, shit games wouldn't be so fucking profitable.
whoever wants to refund dont let rockstar stal you , fight for your refund to tooth and nail , threaten legal action , mention your from EU ETC(if your egible for refund)

Not to talk about average salary + taxes (and in some countries + pension and health insurance) of single medior engineer. Yes- they do make a lot of money, but they also spent a lot of money, GTA 5 costed around 270m to make and advertise- I expect at least 500m for next GTA. And that's only one game- building of it, no maintenance + GTA Online. Although I don't agree with everything you said in video- I do agree with most of stuff, and great content.
it's funny, i used to think Rockstar was the only AAA studio that could still keep their fans content, if not actually make them happy. RDR2 and GTA5's stories were masterpieces, their online was ok, but they were both burdened by micro transactions. all in all, compared to other AAA studios, i thought they were doing well and could be the example of what a AAA developer should be! ...then they never do anything except update GTA5 OL, and RDR2 OL, dont hear anything definitive or at all about more story DLC, or even anything about a GTA6/sequel games, they seem to shift focus entirely on making as much of that sweet online money as they can. the signs were showing there that they were really going all corporate-greed on us... then, they released this trilogy, and thank god i check reviews before i buy stuff. i will stick to my older video games, still on discs, and my older consoles that still work. i mean releasing shitty remasters is one thing, just not something i thought Rockstar would do until recently... but suing modders to remove graphic-improvement mods to make sure your ONLY choice as a customer is to buy these remastered turds?? thats fucking low. i'm certain these corporate swine did their whole cost-benefit analysis thing and knew there would be backlash, bad reviews, and hatemail. and i'm certain they decided the money they'd make on people buying this shit without checking would be worth the bad press, and are just hoping we'll all forget about it in a month and move on. i'm certain Fallout 76 had a similar cost-benefit analysis done as well, guess what, i didnt buy that shit either, never have and never will. just like this joke of a remaster it's not about the game anymore, its about the principle, STOP SERVING YOUR CUSTOMERS SHIT AND INSISTING IT'S STEAK!!! unfortunately, the only way to make these wall-street game-company fucks listen to their fans these days is to hit them where it hurts, in their wallet. i wish the gamer community was united enough to do a full-monetary boycott of any and all Rockstar products for a few months, its the only way they'll actually listen other than just shrugging off the bad reviews and looking back to their annual profit numbers, the only numbers that matter to suit-shits like that...

One thing im surprised you didnt add is that the game itself was outsourced to a huge Indian developer team, there are hundreds of outsourced dev names in the credits.
Lol not surprised
what could they even have been doing? the game itself is pretty much just the mobile version we've seen already plugged into a new rendering layer
I once read that a lot of Microsoft employees in America do almost nothing but fix the broken code that their corporation had outsourced to India. They have so many programmers on the sub-continent but are they capable? Do they even care?
The racism is strong in this comment thread
@@SardonicJosh how is it racism? In the same way that low quality mass produced products are known to come from China, low quality low effort code is known to come from India. Plus, Indian is a nationality, not a race.
One of my favorite videos you've ever made. This is the reason why I'm going to school for game development. I cannot stand the predatory nature of video game companies and it's a goal of mine to set a better standard.
No one had said enough about how this porting company is actually called ‘Grove Street Games’. It’s like stolen valor.
never heard such anger and language from you. I can tell you really mean it and that's good. I'm personally sick of every single studio under the sun, be it movie or video game, 'remaking' or 'improving' on past beloved games or movies because they've completely run out of any and all creativity and are afraid to make anything really new due to either not wanting to put in the effort due to greed/laziness or they're worried about 'offending' the overly sensitive morons over on social media
Kill the rich
Agreed. Things were much interesting back then. TV, games, sports, movies, etc
Sure, they almost entirely destroyed the visuals of all 3 games by leaving it up to AI upscaling and having no humans review the games, but at least they had humans make sure to remove those confederate flags. Clearly their priorities were in order.
Fawk no 🤨‼️
oh they are literally heroes for doing that
FCK THOSE RACISTS 🤜🤜🤜
CIVIL ACTION!!!!
Think the only reason they removed that flag is so they could sell this game on the app store since it's also for mobile devices. Apple did ban the confederate flag from the app store back in 2015 so it makes sense, but still shows how this would've been better off being a console/PC exclusive.
The fact that the took down the original versions should have been the first red light
Taking down the original versions combined with no details about the updates and no hard gameplay footage. Add a review embargo on top of it for a rerelease and you knew it was basically a flaming tornado siren.
Terrible shame how these games turned out. Makes me weary of seeing any other Rockstar games "Remastered" for a quick buck, like Manhunt, Bully or Revolver.
Kind of a shame how far Rockstar has fallen from one of the most respected studios in gaming to a money hungry corporation.
Tens of good games and one bad remaster and they are evil? Ok......
@@BiggerR10 Kind of a big leap for you to make calling them evil lol. Money hungry =/=evil, just means they care more about money than everything else. Same can be said for lots of developers, Rockstar has made some of my favorite games, doesn't change the fact they are complacent with churning out countless expansions for GTA online and shitty remasters and ports of older games because they know fans will buy them. Same as Bethesda, Konami, Ubisoft and many more.
you all should have heeded the warning that was the trailers.
I heeded the warning the moment Take-Two started taking down modders, GTA3:re3 must've (and does) made their remaster look like doo doo.
I was happy to see a new full-length video from you, because I knew I'd get to hear "Testify" at the end.
Wasn't expecting this type of video from the Fallout Facts man, but dang it if I wasn't pleasantly surprised. I would really love more of this type of video, maybe not shitting on bad games but going into details about games that you love. Basically Fallout Facts but like Metal Gear Solid 2 and it's history, fun facts, and it's impact on culture of the year it came out. Keep up the great work big man!
I’m absolutely with you bro. I bought almost every rockstar game ever made. Manhunt is one of my favorite games of all time and I will never buy another rockstar game again. the crazy thing is you could probably buy a used ps2 and all of these games for the same price and get the ACTUAL definitive experience.

They take public commentary on what they need to be doing before they implement the rule changes. Like, defending video game mods could be something they would do. Check out Leondard French's recent video about the DMCA changes for more info.
TKs, why not get with the other video essayists and start building a campaign to organize all the viewers to fight for video game preservation and modding, as art for the former (because each of the original GTAs are legitimately art, created for the same reasons and pressures as any sculpture collections or oil paintings, and took more effort than the Sistine Chapel), and as fair use for the latter?

love watching the evolution of this channel. great work, mantis!
In the end it’s very interesting since it’s both Coke’s fault cause they fundamentally whiffed on how to release this as well as the consumer’s fault since when it came down to taste people usually preferred the new over the classic, but because some Powell didn’t want change a better version of coke got dropped.
man, i love your fallout videos, but you should consider expanding your content more often. this video was very good.
When it comes to the soundtrack I think a lot of people don't realise that it's not just a question of money.
Not all houses would liscence their music again.
The Jackson Estate for example is infamous for being very stingy on licensing now.
Hit the nail on the head. Good video.
A really empassioned well thoughout out critique and i'm right there with you. Happy to hear it TK, wish you the best,
Huh, you're (understandably) passionate about this than you usually are about this, I appreciate the emotion
Thank you Mantis, we need more voices out here speaking the truth
Fair enough.
I was under the impression it was done intentionally.
Thank you for clearing that up.

If paying full price is an exception rather than a rule, you won't get fucked. And if everyone did this, shit games wouldn't be so fucking profitable.

I worked at company that is building genom analysis tool- we spent about 300k $ a month on AWS.
How "cheap" do people think that maintaining and renting (even owning) so many servers costs?
Not to talk about average salary + taxes (and in some countries + pension and health insurance) of single medior engineer.
Yes- they do make a lot of money, but they also spent a lot of money, GTA 5 costed around 270m to make and advertise- I expect at least 500m for next GTA.
And that's only one game- building of it, no maintenance + GTA Online.
Although I don't agree with everything you said in video- I do agree with most of stuff, and great content.
Bit ranty but very fair well done hope we get more quality content from you
it's funny, i used to think Rockstar was the only AAA studio that could still keep their fans content, if not actually make them happy. RDR2 and GTA5's stories were masterpieces, their online was ok, but they were both burdened by micro transactions. all in all, compared to other AAA studios, i thought they were doing well and could be the example of what a AAA developer should be!
...then they never do anything except update GTA5 OL, and RDR2 OL, dont hear anything definitive or at all about more story DLC, or even anything about a GTA6/sequel games, they seem to shift focus entirely on making as much of that sweet online money as they can. the signs were showing there that they were really going all corporate-greed on us...
then, they released this trilogy, and thank god i check reviews before i buy stuff. i will stick to my older video games, still on discs, and my older consoles that still work. i mean releasing shitty remasters is one thing, just not something i thought Rockstar would do until recently... but suing modders to remove graphic-improvement mods to make sure your ONLY choice as a customer is to buy these remastered turds?? thats fucking low.
i'm certain these corporate swine did their whole cost-benefit analysis thing and knew there would be backlash, bad reviews, and hatemail. and i'm certain they decided the money they'd make on people buying this shit without checking would be worth the bad press, and are just hoping we'll all forget about it in a month and move on.
i'm certain Fallout 76 had a similar cost-benefit analysis done as well, guess what, i didnt buy that shit either, never have and never will. just like this joke of a remaster
it's not about the game anymore, its about the principle, STOP SERVING YOUR CUSTOMERS SHIT AND INSISTING IT'S STEAK!!!
unfortunately, the only way to make these wall-street game-company fucks listen to their fans these days is to hit them where it hurts, in their wallet. i wish the gamer community was united enough to do a full-monetary boycott of any and all Rockstar products for a few months, its the only way they'll actually listen other than just shrugging off the bad reviews and looking back to their annual profit numbers, the only numbers that matter to suit-shits like that...
You know shit is real when TK starts to roast somebody
