- You can use water to give a better shape to your origami. Water unlocks the full potential of the paper allowing thinner legs, better joints and positioning. On other models you can also make curved shapes.
Not all papers are good for wet shaping. Standard origami paper rips easily when wet.
The paper used in this video is called Kraft Alios ( www.origami-shop.com/fiche_ar... )

Amazing Tutorial!
Can you make an Chinese dragon please
please i really like you and your videos
Jo Nakashima, can you please make a video teaching this origami. I'm a big fan of yours, and I always wanted to do it but I couldn't.
The consistency of this person is amazing... Like I hv been watching his videos since I was 8 and now I am 15... But still this person has not stopped uploading videos... Even his profile photo remains the same... And also quality has improve ever since... Hats off to you man... 😌😌
So true, I have been watching and making origami from his channel since I was 7 and now I’m 15. So much great work by Jo Nakashima, his website has so many diagrams as well!
15 yo here who has been watching since 6 yo :)
I'm 19 and have been watching him since I was 6 I belive, he was the one who made me like origami. I'm proud that he is from the same country as me( Brazil)
Fun fact: my profile picture is one of his origamis too lol
dude I have been watching you for 10 years now
ever since I was in elementary school
Love you for getting me into Origami but sadly school sucks the creativity out of you and just makes you a robot over the years, hope that someday I will get into Origami again
same here man, been watching him since I was in 6th grade and now I am halfway through my masters degree
I remember the first video I watched of his was the origami chuck, and I was struggling to make it. I was like 12 at the time. Now I'm 19 and making complex models like the Ancient Dragon and Great White Shark, how time flies.
I use this technique alot, but I use glue to hold the layers together. Next I use water to help shape, harden, and clean off glue residue.
thats not origami with glue water is cus it will dry up
Thanks for the tip. We don't have much paper here, so I have to fold some complex models with normal paper and it gets so thick that I can't shape it any more. But I think this technique will help. By the way, you're my childhood, man. Also my teenagehood, cuz' I'm a teenager now. 😁
P.S. Your spider model's rocking, man. I'm definitely going to fold it.
Tbh if it's like printer paper or Kami I would recommend using glue instead. Water will only break down the paper, and it'll rip almost immediately when you try to touch it. You need paper with good fibers that won't break down under water like tissue paper, Kraft, biotope, etc to use this method to the fullest.
I used printing paper a lot myself, but recently I’ve switched to brown packing paper. I got a roll for relatively cheap a few years ago that I’m still working through. It’s thin and holds up nicely to wet folding/shaping as well
@@chloegogue5678 I would consider what you use to be a form of Kraft paper
@@hyperblitz3738 thanks for the tip, i’ve been wet-shaping kami like an idiot for a few months already, they did not stand the test of time and are now scraps being sent for recycling 😢
@@Nintendo_song-maker shaping with glue is almost the same as wet folding. You're welcome btw
This opened my eyes to a whole new avenue of sculpting in origami. I’ve been doing this since I was really young. I adore this channel. Keep creating beautiful pieces ❤️
amazing!! I love these tip videos they're so good for people like me who are just starting out complex Origami
Your origami is so awesome and I love making complex origami from your channel.
This information is worth millions! 🙀

So pretty 💖 💗
Its looks awesome ✨ 💕
Thanks sharing 🙏 😊
awesome👍
you are so creative c:
Woww nice tip 👍👍
Have you tried doing this but with wax? It helps the piece hold its shape and makes it more weather proof
I've never heard of that before, how do you use the "wax method"? Usually I use water to harden the model, so if it gets wet the model will look the same after a few minutes due to already wet shaping it.
@@hyperblitz3738 First I pre-fold as much as I can. Then I put wax on the paper. Once the wax is on the paper I melt and spread it over a candle, this can be difficult because if the paper gets to hot it can burn so be careful. Make sure the wax gets absorbed into the paper without there being too much wax. Every fold from this point will require heating to avoid ugly cracks in the wax.
I came up with this myself after reading about wet folding, as a way to preserve the paper.
I'm from Indonesia, I really admire origami whit jo nakashima, and always want to learn
thanks for this tutorial
You are awesome 👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for the tip! What paper are you using and where can i get some? My Kraft paper is too thick for my liking and your looks really thin. Thanks.
it's from origami-shop, link in the description
거미 멋져요👍👍👍👍👍👍
i really nead this tip a long time ago
I tried this technique to thin the legs of my hercules beetle by Robert Lang and it looks so much better. Thank you for the video. Liked and subscribed👍.
terima kasih tutorialnya kak 🤭🥰...kreatif banget ..saya ingin belajar membuat origami di rumah 😍
Amazing you are my Idol i do Origami too!❤❤
JoNakashima, can you please make a video teaching this origami. I'm a big fan of yours, and I always wanted to do it but I couldn't.
It could be so origami video, where you show that how to fold 48x48 grid? Origami help
Bro I was just looking for turtorials
very well😀😀
Never saw this technique before
I believe Eric Joisel uses this technique is most of his models
This technique is very popular in the world of complex origami when it comes to shaping models like insects and such to get super thin layers for the legs and such from my knowledge.
Nice tips Jo. Can you please do more videos on action origami? If you are already having any action origami then can you please provide me the link to those tutorials.
I would recommend checking out JeremyShaferOrigami channel if you want action origami models.

@@jonakashima thanks
Wow I thought water was the enemy to my paper, impressive!
❤❤❤
👏🏼😉
please make awesome origami
Wow
I use this technique all the time, except it's not with water it’s with glue, because using water results in waiting a lot of time for it to dry.
👍👍👍👍🙂🙂
imagine you spend 3 hours making the spider model just for it to tear due to adding too much water while wet shaping... pain
😍😍😍. Make a 4×4 Rubik's cube🙏.
if you use glue, it will harden and i think it will end up better after time passes, im not sure
Does this technique work on very thin paper
it depends on the paper, you'll have to test. The paper in this video is super thin (probably one of the thinnest paper I used) and it works. Some kinds of paper will rip easily when wet, even if it's thicker. I recommend testing on a small piece of paper first
i love your video i wise i code be in you video hope to see your next video soon by justice
