Hi Mark. What about their "Blow Up" system that is supposed to prevent retention? Does it require separate special hopper? And does it only work for single dosing?
It works only in theory. Completely impractical. You still get a huge retention when single dosing (up to 8 grams) and because the hopper is closed from the top, it also sucks the ground coffee up when refilling with air.
Hi Mark. Great video. I’m torn between the Mignon Specialita and the Atom 60. Some say the Specialita is better for home use. Which do you recommend for home use? Cheers.
Hi, Thanks for the comment and request. Unfortunately I don't have the Specialita model variant of the Mignon grinder :( I have these: www.wholelattelove.com/eureka-mignon-espresso-grinder-in-chrome
Hi Jason, Thanks for the question. Here's a link to a side by side spec comparison of the Atom, Atom 65 and Atom 75, Larger burrs generally produce a more consistent grind particle size and they grind faster: www.wholelattelove.com/pages/compare?products=NDIxNjQyMTc0NDY5NCwxNTQ1OTk5NDUwMTcxLDQyNTMwMDE1ODA1OTg In the specs take note of the watt ratings of each - it increases with burr size. Taste is subjective so hard to say with authority that it's a noticeable difference with larger burrs. If you do a lot of lighter roast specialty grade beans you probably already know they are harder/denser than darker roasts and occasionally present a challenge to lower powered grinders. Hope that helps! Marc
Hi sunny, Sorry for the delay. I'm holding off on videos for the Zenith until we receive short hoppers. Zeniths we have now came with standard (huge) commercial hoppers.
Hi Richard, Thanks for the comment and request. I'll see if I can squeeze in a compare of the Mignon vs. Vario. In the meantime, if you have specific questions on either I'd be happy to answer them here.
Could you do a review on the Rocket Fausto? I believe it shares many parts with Eureka and is a great alternative for those in the atom market looking for something with that “classic” Italian look.
Hi Kyle, I've touched on the Fausto in a couple of other videos but do need to do a full review! FYI the Fausto is made for Rocket by Eureka. Grind adjustment mechanism is similar. The Fausto uses a funnel and timing control are on a plate atop the funnel. Other than that and aesthetics very similar to the Atom. Marc
Great review, thanks, just one question though, how much coffee can i grind a day using this machine? i'm looking for something that can grind 5 KG or more a day (for selling ground coffee), but i'm on a budget, so something USD 1000 or less would be great, do you have any recommendation? Thanks :)

Nit picking, but hands down best video reviews online, so after watching them all, lol, it’s a bit much sometimes. But this style is 👍🏼👍🏼 Commenting on an older video. Just ordered Oro single dose in black. Hopefully ships soon! Cheers
Have you guys found any solution for the "popcorning" effect? I'm looking for a quiet grinder and having to keep the bean hopper half full all the time seems quite annoying. Or maybe you have suggestions for similar grinders? Thank you.
Hi Filipe, Thanks for the question. With the auger in the Atom there's no solution to popcorning. It's a setup which doesn't lend itself to single dosing. Have a look at the Ceado E6P: www.wholelattelove.com/ceado-e6p-electronic-dosing-grinder-v2 It uses a 64mm flat burr set compared to the 60mm in the Atom. It has 2 timed grinding presets but they are not as easy to adjust as the Atom's. But maybe that's not a concern as it sounds like you may be into single dosing. Might also have a look at Baratza Sette 270. Not the same build quality as the Eureka or Ceado grinders but very good and about half the price. Sette grinders have very low retention produce beautiful fluffy well distributed grinds and work well if single dosing: www.wholelattelove.com/grinders/burr?product_brand=121 You can see my Baratza Sette 30/270/270Wi review here: ruclips.net/video/FzhtwrmB-60/видео.html Marc
Really enjoy the reviews. Currently trying to decide on the Olympus 75E or the Atom Speciality 75. Can you guys do a video comparing the 2? Pros and cons? Is the Olympus that much louder? is the construction worse on the atom? is the retention the same on both? Thanks!
Hi H, Thanks for the comment and question. I'll see if I can't work in a comparison video of the 2. My video cue is rather long at the moment so it might be awhile. In the meantime... Both produce essentially the same grind quality from their 800 watt motors driving 75mm burrs. The Olympus has a more coffee shop build quality. It's heavier and and has little touches like a huge turning power switch compared to a rocker switch on the Atom. If anything, the Olympus has a more mellow tone with the larger housing. Beyond that it comes down to aesthetics - preference for the interface layout. Here's a link to a side by side spec comparison: www.wholelattelove.com/pages/compare?products=MTU0NTk5ODkyNTg4Myw0MjUzMDAxNTgwNTk4 Olympus currently a great deal at just $30 more than the Atom. Marc
Hi 23, Hmm... I think the bigger question is the voltage and/or phase. Depends where in the world you are but you could be running 2 phase or single phase power. No guarantees, but usually not a going to cause damage if you plug something meant for higher voltage say 220 into a 110 circuit which is usually 60hz. May not operate properly but probably will not hurt anything. Going the other way can be an issue. In your shoes, I would check compatibility with a local electrician. Marc

Hi JLTS, It may be possible - honestly have not tried. I believe doing so will result in less consistency in timed dosing weights as the impeller assists in providing consistent flow of beans to the burrs. Marc
Marc, I’m always worried that equipment using those soft foil push buttons (like on the atom control display) will eventually crack and not function, how do they hold up and are these replaceable.
Hi s, I know what you are talking about! I have a 2 on the fridge that have come off exposing the actual button behind them. On the Atom they feel robust. I wouldn't think they could fall apart. If they did the whole front panels can be replaced but I'd be surprised if that would be needed unless subject to abuse. Marc
Hi ORB, See below for a link to a spec comparison between Specialita and the Atom. In short, Atom has 60mm burrs vs. 55mm in Specialita. Atom has much more powerful motor 450w vs 260w. Other: Larger bean hopper, buttons on Atom with touchscreen on Specialita. www.wholelattelove.com/pages/compare?products=MjE0ODI4NDQ2NTIwNiwxNTQ1OTk5NDUwMTcx Marc

Hi Kelly, Thanks for the question. Are you running the grinder when adjusting to a finer setting? Beans left between the burrs can/will make adjusting finer near impossible. Best practice is to have the grinder running when adjusting to a finer setting. Marc
Hi Leonardo, I Don't have an Atom 65 in house at the moment. When I do I will do a review. In the meantime, operationally it's very similar to this Atom but with bigger burrs, ~10% more power in motor and higher price. Marc
Hi RR, A little secret... Eureka makes the Fausto as well. Long term (and they will go for decades) the Atom and Fausto are much better build quality and worth the investment IMO. Marc
The Atom or Rocket Fausto? Which would you choose? I know both are made by Eureka. I also know the Rocket has bigger burrs, bigger motor and a bigger price
Hi John, Thanks for the question. I believe the Fausto is based off the Eureka Zenith: www.wholelattelove.com/collections/eureka/products/eureka-zenith-65-e-hs-grinder-in-chrome Fausto and Zenith specs and price are nearly identical. Currently the Fausto is $50 less. But if it's Atom or Fausto I'd go Fausto for the bigger burrs. Marc

Hi G, Thanks for the question. Programming timed dosing is easier on the Atom as it displays the time. E5p is manual only and with the E6P grind time is adjusted in .1 second increments with no display of grind time. I have a slight preference for the grind size adjustment on the Ceado grinders. Atom has a grinds bin for brew methods other than espresso. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have more questions! Marc
Whole Latte Love Thanks for the response! Great video! What about the grinding performance on espresso and brew? What kind of improvements do you get from the 75mm version? Many thanks.
You are welcome and thank you for the kind comment. 75mm burrs produce a slightly better grind and grind faster. For average users grind quality increase with larger burrs may be hard to detect in finished espresso. As for grinding for espresso vs. brew... This type of grinder is IMO more oriented to espresso. It's not the grinder I would choose if only grinding for brew. Frankly, it's overkill as fine grind size adjustment for brew is not critical. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have more questions!
