I fell in love with horses at 5 yrs old in 1966. For as long as I can remember I have never missed watching the run for the Triple Crown in 55 yrs. Secretariat won my heart & soul by the time he won the Derby ... I was 11 yrs old. He was the stuff dreams are made of ... I cried every time I watched him run. The Belmont STILL chokes me up to this day! Pure MAGIC. It's as if for a moment in time God smiled down and said, "Look what I created ... He's my gift to mankind and for 2 min 53 seconds I'll show you a living miracle!" …The closest in looks and comparison lately was California Chrome but sadly unable to pull it together. I've been so rich & blessed beyond measure to have read about Man O War, witnessed Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, American Pharaoh & Justified.

I was 14 that Spring when Big Red won the Triple crown! I read about him in the paper and cut out articles and pictures. As I watched the Belmont race the excitement grew with each tremendous stride! When the announcer said he was moving like a tremendous machine I was screaming at the TV to not stop, yelling Go, Go over and over! By the time he crossed the finish line I was in tears! I knew I had witnessed a moment in time that was beyond special!! I had no words, just tears!! To Red, God's Horse!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I was caught up in the excitement about Big Red in the Kentucky Derby at the time which only grew as the chance of a Triple Crown winner seemed possible.
Since then I watched so many videos about the amazing Secretariat but TIL something new. Sitting in my townhouse which is twenty feet wide I was staggered at the mention of his twenty five foot stride....slowly looked from one wall to the other, dumbfounded that he could clear that by five more feet. Sittinging total awe. So glad that I lived to see his performances.😢

Horses with white hooves/leg markings need to have a higher level of scrutiny and ongoing care especially when weight gain is allowed to happen as is common in stallions at stud. A better exercise regimen needs to happen with stallions even if its at the short term expense of time in the covering sheds - but they are used like cash registers and their temperament suffers so exercise becomes difficult. Less greed would make ongoing management easier.

I have the dvd version of this documentary and I think it’s great. There is one questionable comment made in this video that also appears in the ESPN Sportscentury documentary that confuses me. The comment that the commentator stated that Secretariat broke the Belmont record by 2 1/5 second. When I watch the CBS Sports Belmont TV broadcast, Chic Anderson announces Secratariat broke the record by 2 3/5. Checking a google response on this from wickapedia, it states Secretariat broke the 1957 Gallent Man record, which was 2:26 3/5. I assume Chic Anderson and wickapedia are correct.
