It's been a couple months now since I've bought this tablet and it is great. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxLNmVocUk8tnSkwWIlYSNFzWRIaFTBuzS The tablet is responsive and runs well. There were a few times that the tablet did an awkward thing where it would detect pen on at all times and wouldn't register finger press, but it is usually fixed by closing and opening either the screen or app. This is highly likely due to my excessive use for drawing which caused this and wasn't really very big. As I mostly enjoy using the tablet for drawing (and some light gaming), I would comment from that aspect that there is definitely more accurate pressure and drawing using a PC device and drawing tablet, however i find the moveablity of the tablet more enjoyable to draw on. Like how you can physically rotate and move a piece of paper around or even draw casually on your bed.All in all, as a tablet it is good, and as a drawing device can be good depending on what you want from a drawing device. It is definitely good enough if you just want to use it to take notes. For typing though I can't comment on the keyboard as I did not get the keyboard.

Great review, but like other reviewers, you didn't mention that writing or drawing with the S-pen will work without it being charged. It won't die on you mid drawing like at Apple pencil. From what I understand, the charging is for the extra features like using it as a remote control.

I have the S8+ and I can safely say I will not be needing my windows PC anymore. Samsung seem to be Android these days IMO, not only hardware but software too. Samsung easily beat IOS on features not ease of use but I think IOS is going the same way. I buy all my Samsung products directly, the buying and support experience is horrendous and stressful especially with pre order deals. Getting the S8+ was no different, my serial number was rejected too. I'm in the UK and my packaging was a lot better. Generally their website is far below Apple in quality. And hearing they only provide updates for four years was the final nail in the coffin for me. But I’m also not ordering an 11 inch iPad Pro until they bring the better screen technology to the smaller iPad. If they expect me to pay $1500 CAD for a new iPad Pro in November 2022 they’d better correct that issue or they can piss off.

I'm an everything apple user. My brother just bought the s8+ and let me use it for a few days. I must say samsung has come a long way! I remember I moved on to become an ios user after a laggy, unresponsive experience with the galaxy nexus and galaxy s6 after only 2 years owning each device. I guess hardware must have improved greatly, to the point improvements now can only be made through software optimization. I think in 3-5 years samsung will have a complete ecosystem of its own. That's the only thing I love about apple; I don't need to download a seperate app for every single thing I do. Everything is seamless. That said, my experience with the s8+ was smooth. Samsung notes is amazing, the s-pen feels better than my apple pencil. I can't belive he only paid half the price of what I paid for my ipad pro lol
I heard that samsung now offers up to 5 years of os and security updates. That means, they're serious about building their own eco-system, have a lot of confidence in their products and in their abilities to deliver such costly operation. I'll probably make the switch when samsung release an all-new, generational leap galaxy tab/phone model like the m1 chip in apple. Competition is always great.

Comparisons are hugely relevant and useful to consumers who aren’t interested in fanboyism. I had to wait for a week and a half for a technician to come out and review it, and I was advised that i would be charged if they find that the fault was due to me. I had to send in my proof of purchase to them, even though I purchased it through their site. I had to also show the proof of purchase to the technician - overall I think the support person tried longer to verify my purchase than trying to help me. Right now I'm still without a tv... but a case worker sent me a sms asking for ... a proof of purchase.

Thank you for another interesting and well thought out video. I suspect Galaxy S8 Tab real world performance will not be an issue, though it will be interesting to see how many apps you can open on the S8 before old apps have to reloaded when you return to them. My experience of Android devices Vs iPad OS devices is Android is less efficient managing RAM compared with iPad OS. I am also interesting on your thoughts regarding Samsung's DEX desktop mode. Is it useful, or just a gimmick for a Tablet computer? In the past, I have always wished iPads offered a desktop mode when you connected a keyboard and mouse (like Chromebook Tablets / 2 in 1s), but now having used an iPad Pro M1 running latest iPad OS 15, I am not sure if this is still a must have. I do wish iPad OS allowed more emulation apps and virtual machines. Emulation is one area Android scores over iPad OS, but interesting to see if this situation changes as Apple makes it easier to side load apps on iPad OS / iOS following recent court rulings.

If Samsung can get away charging its customers as much as Apple does then I can assure you Samsung will provide much better shopping experience and customer service.
As to all the Apple Fan Boys and Gals, why do you need the M1 iPad for? Are you running ML simulations? Or you using it to CREATE RUclips contents?
Apple entire shtick is to sell high end premium products to the mostly low tech social media, image conscious, money is no object crowd.
Among Apple major iPad Pro owners, my wild guess is is less than 5% of those really need the M1 full power to do anything on a daily basis other than, as I said, for RUclips and other media content creations. And in the case someone really needs the M1 full power then using iPad Pro is being plain silly.
M1 is overkill for majority of Apple fan club members.
To be fair, the Tab S8 Android OS is not as smooth or easy to navigate as the iOS on the iPads. Samsung needs to do a better job in this area. I'd say it is not bad at all when compared to the iPad. But iOS has its own flaws also. Overall I much prefer native Android OS anytime over iOS.
Lastly, I'd much prefer to have the ability to add external storage to my tablet when needed. Why Apple never gives its customers the same feature as the Tabs? We all know the answer.
Apple knows they can get away ripping off its customers for as long as it can so why not? Plus, this is how Apple can maintain its tight grip on the whole Apple ecosystem.
Lastly, I am also not a fan of Samsung as it is not that much different than what Apple is practicing in ripping off its customers. Look no further than Samsung smart phones offering. Talk about being overpriced and overkilled.

Sold an Samsung Android tablet late last year. The hardware was fine, but there are STILL very few apps that are developed to support the larger tablet. Anyone buying an Android tablet will be disappointed when they download an app they want, only to find that it's designed for a phone. I don't even want to think about what that will look like on the ULTRA!
Other than that, for the price you can buy (in the US) a brand new iPad Pro 11" M1 with 128GB storage. The "free" case sounds good, but you have to pre-order from Samsung directly. This is a major pain because it's in stock for less at my local Best Buy, and it will take a week or more to get from Samsung.

Great comparison video. It bothers me so when people causally shrug off Samsung’s and others cloning Apple devices. The “they all copy from each other” attitude. I think it’s bc when Apple copies, it’s breaking news and discussed repeatedly. I see much more of Apple’s shaping the exterior and interior workings of personal devices than Android. Apple patents a feature, Android quickly releases their variation on their devices
I hope Apple doesn’t include a pencil like Samsung. They are never free and always baked into the cost of the device. I was shocked to see after about 2 weeks I never used my Apple Pencil. So many will be wasted, just like the “free” headphones we all wanted but never used anymore.

I currently have the Galaxy S7+. Which is virtually identical to the S8+ apart from only 2 notable differences. The S8+ has better cameras (which doesn't matter to me because if I need a good camera, I use my phone for that. Not my tablet. Nor do I consider 4k selfie cameras all that useful for video calls, because the bandwidth necessary to retain that quality is often out of the range of the people I would actually call, plus you lose quality to compression anyway. So I don't really care about ultra high resolution cameras on a tablet. On my phone, yeah it's definitely important, but not on a big tablet.
The only other notable difference is the processor and GPU. On that front, the S8 models definitely have the advantage and was definitely a "temptation" for me thinking of upgrading. But only because I'm a tech enthusiast. The reason I say "only" because I'm a tech enthusiast, is because of use cases. What do you actually use your tablet for? Video editing? Not really in my case. The reason being is because if I'm going to edit video, I'm not going to do it on my tablet. I'm going to do it on my main rig because my PC has far more performance grunt than even the best tablet. So while I would use the tablet to "present" high quality video, I would never use it to "produce" high quality video. I would use a desktop for that. Now for photo editing (S-Pen is great for this), gaming, office work and media consumption, all of these things I would definitely use the tablet for. And all of which, already perform flawlessly on even the S7+.
So I don't really see that there would be any tangible performance gain on the S8. Certainly a "measurable" gain, but a "tangible" gain? Not really. The reason being due to what's actually "available" on any tablet experience. There are no "real" demanding games out there on Android like there are on PC. Everything is made to work on a wide spectrum of devices and even the games that "do" have high performance options, only have high performance options for things like higher quality textures. Which is generally more dependent on RAM (since RAM and VRAM tend to be shared from the generalized memory pool on mobile devices) rather than actual processor and GPU performance. So in 99% of cases, the current gen processor vs last gen processor, really isn't going to matter at all.
As you've shown yourself, your workflow documents still work flawlessly even though there is technically a "measurable" performance difference. This is the same thing with PC gaming. You have 2 cards with a 20% performance difference between them. Does that actually matter? Well if you're only scraping by, then yes, you would definitely notice a 20% increase in performance. But if you're already blazing through everything anyway, there's no way you're going to notice that difference. Plus there are so many other factors that affect "tangible" performance than "simply" raw performance numbers. Like OS overhead. Optimization. Available system memory. Multitasking capability etc. Such as the difference between a game that uses Directx vs Vulkan on the same hardware. In a lot of cases, the same game when using Vulkan will perform substantially better than when it's using Directx even on the exact same hardware. Why? Because Vulkan tends to have drastically lower overhead than Directx does. However, where Vulkan has the advantage in performance due to lower overhead, Directx has the advantage in compatibility and tends to be more "reliable" as a result. So while yes, raw performance numbers ARE important, people tend to place way too high of an importance on that "simple" number even though it never tells the whole story.
So what do I actually use my tablet for? Android games. Yes. Runs everything perfectly. I have yet to find any android game that comes even close to stressing the S7+. The closest I can get to actually pushing the S7+, is when using emulators. And even that, it breezes through. The S7+ can emulate pretty much everything I throw at it up to PSX games. So unless the S8's performance increase can actually open the door to smooth PS2 game emulation, I don't see the S8 as being a "tangible" improvement to upgrade to. Media consumption. Again runs everything flawlessly. Internet browsing. Again perfect and I don't even need the 5G model for that on the road, because I can just turn my mobile phone into a wireless hotspot and connect my wifi tablet to the phone like any other wifi network and use my phone's internet connection as it's own. And since I always have my phone on me anyway, there's absolutely no point in paying extra for the 5G version of the tablet plus an addition data plan. That's a waste of money. Seriously, do not waste your money on 5G tablets if you already have a mobile phone. It's literally pointless and a huge waste of money. Office work. My experience is literally the same as yours. Even with demanding workloads and spreadsheets, it handles everything flawlessly.
So I'm really struggling to see the need to upgrade from the S7+ from a "tangible" perspective even though the tech enthusiast side of me is screaming at me to get the latest and greatest. Oh man, that "temptation" is so hard to fight. But those really are the only two major differences between the S7+ and the S8+. They are virtually identical in every other way. Exact same Super AMOLED screen. Same connectivity standards. Same storage options. Same speakers. Oh btw, because you asked, yes, the S7's and S8's all have the exact same speakers. So they all have x4 speakers. x2 on each side. Although their tuning might be different. I will say I did not like the S7+'s default tuning. Loud, but several shows (like Star Trek TNG) sounded like they were talking from the bottom of a barrel. With retuning of the default audio spectrum, they can really sound great for watching movies and listening to music. If you'd like to try and see if you like my settings. Turn both Dolby Atmos settings off. Then select custom equalizer, then use spectrum settings from left to right (1.5, 3, 4, 2, 0.5, 1, 2.5, 4, 4). I find those settings to be far better balanced and enjoyable for media consumption while still being plenty loud. If you try it and like it, great. If not, fair enough, it was worth a try.
Also, like you, I had a lot of trouble with Samsung's website. Especially in the UK. They just don't seem to offer the UK the same breadth of options as they do in Europe and the US. So much so that I was eventually forced to import my S7+ from the states to get the 512GB version I wanted. Surprisingly, I ended up getting the 512GB version from the states through Amazon Global (dispatched and sold from Amazon) for less money than it would've cost me for the cheapest version of the S7+ in the UK. And that was even when taking into account import fees and duty. Couldn't believe I got the best model from the states for less than the worst model in the UK. And Samsung seems to rely way too heavily on using the Samsung rewards app to redeem pre-order and device specific bonuses. It's easy enough to do to be fair, but Samsung is nowhere near transparent enough as to the process that's required. And the lead times for actually receiving those "bonuses", is long. I think I waited well over 6-8 weeks for the galaxy buds that were offered with my phone. I had actually forgot about them by the time I received them. Samsung definitely needs to improve the end user experience for purchasing their devices. Also, I know you're getting the keyboard case for free (I didn't), but you end up not liking it (looks a little flimsy to me) and want something more rugged and don't care about the keyboard, I highly recommend you look at Spigen for their Galaxy Tab cases. They are exceptionally well made, have a great built in slot for holding the S-Pen and worth every penny. Anyway, I've rambled enough. Too much. But I hope this helps at least.

Not sure if SWAPPA is available outside the US, but last week I sold an iPad Mini 5 with 64GB memory for $325 USD, for anyone who is interested. It's a solid place to buy/sell and charges sellers a fraction of what eBay charges. Sadly, the government will still tax the shiite out of your sale, even though you already paid the tax one when you bought it new.

The iPad Air + Pencil will be cheaper than the S8+. Either would be a fantastic choice, so it is really down to personal preference. Probably the biggest factor is whether you want Android or iPadOS.

the comment about the apple pencil costing extra makes no sense; not everybody needs a pencil, and by charging for it they can make a better product for people who need it and are willing to pay. there are a lot of artists who love the apple pencil

    • @ConstantGeekery
      @ConstantGeekery  2 года назад

Which country are you in? The order process is different in different regions. I didn't miss anything, other than the small print hidden at the bottom of the very long product page. It was a promotional claim that Samsung didn't make clear, and that will be region-specific. Nothing got added to the cart, nor was there any such option at the time of ordering.
My keyboard has now arrived, and was shipped from Ingram Micro (a UK wholesaler), so I'm guessing Samsung outsource things here.

Samsung's "FREE" items is a horrible experience. It sounds rich, complaining about free items, but it was clearly set up on the premise that many people won't bother, and that leaves you feeling that they're cheaping out. That feeling when you've dropped significant money is not reassuring.
I got the S21, my claim for free Galaxy Buds was denied because it was bought as a gift. It took 3 days to deny the claim. That blocked the IMEI number. It took another 3/4 days to unblock, prove that my spouse bought the phone for me, that it never had another owner etc. The claim went through in 2 days. It took 40 days for them to ship, and about 4/5 days to arrive.
Not a good experience, despite how good of an offer it was. Experiences matter, and Samsung is lagging in this regard

    • @DS87
      @DS87 2 года назад

Agreed. The buying experience is stone age compared to apple and I don't like apple products actually. I just got my S22 Ultra and they shipped the redemption card for the pre order gifts separately in another box at a different time. For a piece of paper?! So much for going green. The redemption for the "gifts" is another pain in the behind. They have so much catching up to do.

@@polofunk as I said, it's a bit rich complaining about free stuff, but for me it was a month of no headphone jack, and I didn't yet own Bluetooth headphones.
Maybe location has something to do with it, but the timeline outlined in this video lines up with the experience I had (based in ROI)
