Mind blown. I have been healing and recovering emotionally after a 17 year long abusive relationship. I have been learning about the vagus nerve to help in this process. I have this exact postural dysfunction you speak of to the right, shoulder high, teeth and jaw TMJ on right, everything off in the exact way you describe. I've been seeing an osteopath to help. I had no idea my posture issues were related to my trauma, but the way you explain it makes total sense - my body was in fight or flight for 17 years and it completely changed me structurally. Thank you for this video and insight!
You're welcome, Allison. Also check out the book "The Body Keeps the Score". The osteopath can help, but if he doesn't recognize the exact pattern that I'm talking about, and how it will affect your movement all the way down to your feet, it may not resolve fully. I'd seek out a Postural Restoration Institute certified PT to help. They are trained to treat the exact pattern that you are experiencing.
So at 5:40 in are you talking about the dreaded cervical hinge acquired from bad forward posture due to computer use, correct? If so, Kjetil Larson from MSK Neurology talks about this in his vids as well.
Thank you, Neal. your videos and knowledge has helped me a lot. My head/neck is being pulled to the right causing the atlas, c1 and c2 to follow. You can’t be healing, living and breathing if that happens. Pain plus neurological issues was normal for me. after doing PRI exercises, my right side is starting to relax a bit every time. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
Neal, Thank you so much for these explanations, the exercise with the feet is an incredible revelation :) I noticed years ago that my chest wants to rotate to the right and of course my neck. You're great Neil, you seem to have only one physical problem left in your life - your sight. Since you opened many doors of perception for myself, I will give you an advice, which, if you take it, will help you. You need to sungaze to fix that - it will completely fix your eyesight (and much more). I'm claiming that from personal experience - many years ago I irreversibly damaged my eyes with alcohol (absinthe), and it had been like that for a couple of years. Then I started sungazing (for other reasons than fixing eyes) and I noticed my eyesight is getting better. After a while, my sight became laser sharp. I am unusually strong with incredible perception on many levels because of that. It is incredible how good visual system affects everything in our being, but that's something you already know. The only thing is, my sight deteriorates with time, so I have to sungaze again to fix it, every few years for a few weeks. I'm not a constant sungazer, I only use it as a necessity. Hopefully you will read this and try it. There are a few "tips and tricks" when it comes to sungazing, if you decide to do it, ask here on this comment and I'll let you know what they are. Thanks for the knowledge you share, and rock on.

Thank you for this wonderful information. I am stuck in a bad pattern at this time. Been suffering for 2.5 years although there were small signs going back 3 years but pattern had not yet caused chronic pain and chronic fight/flight until about 2 years ago. Now i have chronic face, neck, shoulder and back tension. I have made some small positive gains in just the past 4 months doing self massage but i am still missing something. Some of the comments here give me hope that I am onto something. And yeah all neurologists, pain docs, orthopedists, chiros and primary care doctors are clueless. I have found 2 good PTs and 1 good massage therapist that are willing to help me figure this out. Unfortunately no PRI trained providers anywhere near me but i am trying to understand your videos and blog posts.

I have severe tinntius it appeared in 2017 and had gradually gotten worse along with bad neck and trapeze pain. I think the tinntius is related to this. But medical system continues to say they don't know what tinnitus is and there is no cure. I have rebelled against this the whole time. When laying flat on my back or sitting with my legs stretched out in front of me, my right foot turns severely to the right almost to the point that my little toe can touch the ground, it's severely rotated to the right. The left foot points straight up. I also am suffering from TMJ. All of this makes sense. I'm going to show this video to my useless GP and physiotherapists and then never return to either of them!
I had covid and the coughing was unbearable, I broke my ribs. Now Im dealing with vestibular migraines and Im sure it has something to do with my muscles and vagus nerve. I hope I can get some relief soon.

Although the exercises he prescribes were heartbreakingly ineffective. For a patho pec with a right crossbite anyway lol. My right SCM is atrophied and you can’t even see it when I turn my head. The left SCM is weak and right, but you can actually see it. Very interesting video.
I'd really like a short video on the right foot pronation, left heel sensing the ground exercise. My head naturally tilts to the right being pulled over. I can tell my neck muscles engage when I breathe deeply.
My tilt is that my left leg is the one that is longer and my hip projects on the left side? Right leg and foot turn outwards and away from the body. Any thoughts on what to do?

The osteopath can help, but if he doesn't recognize the exact pattern that I'm talking about, and how it will affect your movement all the way down to your feet, it may not resolve fully. I'd seek out a Postural Restoration Institute certified PT to help. They are trained to treat the exact pattern that you are experiencing.
@@NealHallinan Thank you for the tip! I live in France - I wonder if there are PTs with this type of training here... I am going to look into it.
@@allisonhogan7443 How is it going ? I live in France too and unfortunately I didn't find any PRI practicioner here...
Wow I’m glad I found you I have horrible neck tension. I also get bloated bad and have nausea as well as bad anxiety
Have those same symptoms, have you found anything that helps you?
Look up the Caring Medical Channel too xxx
So at 5:40 in are you talking about the dreaded cervical hinge acquired from bad forward posture due to computer use, correct? If so, Kjetil Larson from MSK Neurology talks about this in his vids as well.
Always complex and illuminating, thanks for shining the light buddy.
Thank you, Neal. your videos and knowledge has helped me a lot.
I have extreme case of Left AIC, right BC because of over three decades of compensatory patterns.
you are literally describing my affliction in this video.
Hello Ahmed. Happy to hear you are feeling better. Are you in the United States?
Neal Hallinan yes.

Neal, Thank you so much for these explanations, the exercise with the feet is an incredible revelation :) I noticed years ago that my chest wants to rotate to the right and of course my neck. What you say about the reason why the body turns to the right is incredible and makes complete sense to me. wow!
Ah, great! I love when it all comes together and people have that "a-ha" moment!
Wow, this was like a magic trick, it worked so fast! Thank you, feeling more relaxed and pain free in the neck!
love your videos. sometimes when I'm getting discouraged about my progress I will watch one of these and it immediately re-inspires me. thank you, Neal!
I was led here because of whiplash/neck issues/tinnitus. This info on the Vagus Nerve is extremely informative. Shared. Thank you!

Think an actual demo of foot and heel would been beneficial
Rolling a baked bean can under the arch of the left foot whilst raising right heel?
Thanks Neal
Another awesome video. My neck is just as you described after years working a high stress job where I was in perpetual fight or flight. So so interesting 👍
Idk why these videos are being suggested to me but it seems like it makes sense in my life
Thank you I have experience of osteoporosis and live with cerebral palsy . As well as arthritis everywhere which doctors have not diagnosed. In my neck I suffer with pain many thanks j will not give up
you are amazing.. I suffered from diaphragmatic paralysis for so long.. was misdiagnosed.... for soooo long.... vagus and phrenic nerve disfunction from a bad Gall bladder removal... injuring my nerves..
This was very informative! Thank you for taking the time to make this video
You're quite welcome. Thanks for the comment.
Hey a shout out again to this video it's me second time my body had to get up immediately and do the small exercise recommended here and even after the three years of very hard work in 22 years of observing and all kinds of horror trying to climb out of disability I probably would have been in the constraints of a tight-reined horse still if I had not come across this somehow so I got to tell you the value of your posting all your work and everything is just over the roof for me I can't tell you how valuable it has become to me what you did just finding the book reading the book coming across it and posting it and then it coming across to me and the 22 years of hell I've been living I just got to tell you again thank you thank you thank you I can't believe the difference I notice already within an hour that I can turn fully left now which I haven't been able to since I broke my neck and also now I realize what the pains have been going up the right side of the neck recently and up into the the skull must have been caused by this it's all starting to feel so much better already there was a lot of nerve activity immediately after doing the exercise for about 10 minutes all the way from the skull down to the right foot which broke over six places the leg broke and the neck broken the head got scalped and there was a whole lot of feeling that happen from this little tiny exercise and I cannot connotate the value of what you have done for me thank you!!!🥰
You're great Neil, you seem to have only one physical problem left in your life - your sight. Thanks for the knowledge you share, and rock on.
when you say sungaze, do you mean looking at the sun directly or nearby?
@@ejw4300 you look directly at the sun, but only within first 45 minutes from sunrise, or within 4 minutes before sunset. You don't look at it during any other time, because intensity is too high, and you will damage your eyes-

Yes except on my other side. And I am getting it to relax. to inhale, etc. Isometric exerciuses and exercises to loosen and relax the trap,
My doctor said exertional dyspnea. My neuro -last time i saw him (i have MS) said the ONLY reason to have trouble inhaling is panic attack. Thank all of you on here, saved my life.
Thank you for sharing! Would you be so kind to give us an example exercise that helps to put these back to normal? Thank you so much! Much love from Hungary, from Victoria
12:30 ...On his website he also mentions that "Understanding how to turn off an overactive R TMCC now enables me to usually get full neutrality in the brachial chain."
I agree I would love to have a book of his with exercises in it.

It's definitely difficult without seeing a live PRI therapist.
Thank you so much!! Love your information!!!
I think this is what is happening to me. Will buy the book. My left side is affected. Flight or fight is constant. Can not keep neck relaxed, ever.
This is so on point with the problems I experience. Thanks for letting us know about it!
Grateful I found the presentation that describes my situation exactly. Thank you
I bought the Accessing the Healing ... recently. Glad to find this.
I am learning to drive now. So this is the reason why if I panic, if I feel in danger, I have difficulty using my left foot and let up the clutch ? Very interesting. I wonder- maybe car constructors should know this as well - maybe where the clutch is situated is dangerous.
Listening to that book right now!

Game changer!!! 🙏🏻💚 a million thank you’s
I had a cervical discectomy of the C5/6 nearly 20 years ago and continue with degeneration and ongoing chronic pain down to my feet, lack balance and fall over often! Have seen multiple physios, therapists and chiropractor - I’m so getting this book!
I seem to feel better after watering the lawn standing on the wet grass in my bare feet, while watering it. How does that factor in?
You are grounding yourself. Recommend watching The Earthing Movie documentary...can find here on youtube.
Very interesting! I've read this book and do the exercises, which have helped my migraines tremendously. Cool to hear your perspective on it, and playing with the standing pattern it made a lot of sense. I could feel my spine and neck release from just that!
so interesting about the negative thought putting the neck out of alignment.
Yes, that was an interesting observation, but in Postural Restoration we discuss the fact that this "patterning" is all the autonomic nervous system.
Thank you
Do you have a video explaining the thing with the feet you alluded to? I didn’t quite get it…
Thank You kind sir a Chiropractor damaged my neck over 30 .years ago, and its been hell I feel for you that you lived it from a young child, and a mn happy for you that your free of it now👍I will certainly try what you have suggested if anyone should know how to correct it you would as you know its hard to get help from people who have just learned it totally from text books.
I have had some success with a competent massage therapist

Thanks for the share, I will look at those books!
The severely rotated right foot is often found in the left AIC pattern. If you are in the US, a Postural Restoration therapist may help.
Did u get rid of your tinnitus ?
I had covid and the coughing was unbearable, I broke my ribs. Now Im dealing with vestibular migraines and Im sure it has something to do with my muscles and vagus nerve. I hope I can get some relief soon.

Fascinating book, I came to it through Dr splichal. Hearing people talk about 'fight or flight' was never the same again. Like hearing people talk of water and steam, without mentioning ice.
Although the exercises he prescribes were heartbreakingly ineffective. For a patho pec with a right crossbite anyway lol. It described the experience of my problems so well, read it at least three times cover to cover trying *will* the piece I was missing to reveal itself to me.
Fascinating to hear you discuss it from a PRI lens, thank you :)
What was the answer for you?
@@zoezzzarko1117 haven't found one. Right now I'm working on killing gut microbes to stop ab impediments from the inside, and playing with kettlebells to make the obliques fire more 'automatically', to then get all the other downstream de-patterning
@@patricktoth-meyers5044 ok thank you for responding, I appreciate it
@@zoezzzarko1117 no worries. That's just what I'm trying though. I have tooth involvement and eye involvement and a thyroid problem, so Neal's more basic depatterning cues and tips might work for you :)

Keeping the neck relaxed is a huge deal!
As Cranio i have read this book as well. it works and is really great. Polyvagal and his add to it
It's a really good book, indeed.
11:59- very interesting but I have no idea how to correct what my posture.. feel my right foots arch while putting pressure on my left heal? My body is constantly in fight or flight, going on like 17 years.. could you explain this in layman’s terms, or do you have a video showing the exercise or how to correct it?

Wow Im 38 and living this!!....
Great video Neal, very fascinating!
Glad you enjoyed it. It's a good book.
When I am put under anesthesia and am intubated by the anesthesiologist for surgery, I leave surgery with painful intractable hiccups that can only be stopped by a 50 mg injection of Thorazine. I believe that the nerve that is irritated is the vagus nerve.
Any suggestions??
Wow....so glad I found you and your channel! I was in a car accident 30vyrs ago and am so messed up after breaking my right knee and foot.
Lovely and easy exercises. I yawned so much throughout these exercises! Particularly when I turned my eyes to look in the directions you suggested. Is this normal?!
what exercises? i wonder what to do now lol, pronating my right food, so i stand more on my left heel?
This is why I always coach people when they are on my table about overactive neck muscles when breathing
Thank you 🙏🏾 😭
Many people forget that in order to activate the vagus nerve you need to move your muscle diaphragm which is innervated by the phrenic nerve.
Please show your technique for realignment
I’m curious in this too. I’ve been going to Chiro
Great job
so how do we fix the feet/pronation? I do walk on the outer side of my right foot and have for all my life.
I bought this book after watching this and it’s amazing - thank you for recommending. More book recommendations most welcome.
It is a great book. I just wished the author realized he was looking at a "pattern" (Left AIC/right BC/right TMCC)
Thank you Very Interesting points you have made I have I've had the book for ages and got distracted with the pandemic I shall have dig it out and actually read it !!
The pandemic has distracted me, as well. Big-time!
How can you sense left heel? Paper underneath ?
Great, very interesting. BUT anything we can do about it ??
Are you talking about the vagus nerve or the neck pattern I talk about?
I think I have this, except I rotate to the left, because this was brought on by a parachute accident where I broke my neck and jaw. My C1 is always rotated to the left, and I have it out back in place twice per week, or it shuts off my life. My right rib cage is a mess, but so it the left side. My right SCM is atrophied and you can’t even see it when I turn my head. The left SCM is weak and right, but you can actually see it. Very interesting video.

2 great books to read
Great video. It all makes sense
I'd really like a short video on the right foot pronation, left heel sensing the ground exercise. My head naturally tilts to the right being pulled over. I can tell my neck muscles engage when I breathe deeply.
Every Postural Restoration technique incorporates the left heel and right arch.
pritrainer.com/pri-left-aic-right-bc-beginner-example-program/
Should we buy insoles for pronated feet? How can we correct c1 c2 c3 if we dont know where they are?
Nu... so what exercises or chiropractic adjustment to use? Ring dinger from Houston Chiropractic or Ace Thayer from SoCal Chiropractic?
My tilt is that my left leg is the one that is longer and my hip projects on the left side? Right leg and foot turn outwards and away from the body.
Any thoughts on what to do?
Wow, so informative. Thank you.
You're welcome.
*Very interesting...*
