I can't fault this - excellent. I can't wait to see what they can do with a portable chain. These grinder-resistant materials may make real inroads into bike and motorcycle theft deterrence at large.

Thank you. Excellent against angle grinder, but heard the composite is brittle. Interested in how it fares against a screw spreader or a bottle jack which are portable, not uncommon tools unfortunately. Pls let us know if you hear.

Graphene & any composite made using it is flammable. Plumbers blow torch is more effective than a grinder.

    • @vigilant_1934
      @vigilant_1934 6 месяцев назад

But a blow torch isn't something usually seen on the street. Bolt cutters were popular for awhile years ago but now it's angle grinders. Plenty of videos out there of people using those but none with blow torches other than a review video for a RUclips channel. That's not a real world scenario though. Not on the street at least.
I've heard of groups grabbing bikes still locked up by taking the whole rack off and taking them away in a van. They take it to their spot which is where they can grind them, cut them, and if they have the tools possibly torch them but again this is something done inside or away from the public. There are pics on Amazon of melted through locks but they were in an inside garage so not out on the street. Not saying it's never happened just saying it's not a regular thing like bolt cutting and angle grinding is.

Living in the SF Bay Area I bought an Altor SAF lock 3 years ago. It works, but is too large & heavy for many applications.
My 2 D1000’s just arrived last week and I’m sold!THE solution I’ve been looking for - especially locking outside.
Now we need Ferosafe and/or Proteus used in chains & anchors for home & back of car security.
Unfortunately the D1000 doesn’t interface with most of today’s quality chains. And it’s irrelevant if it did because chains are easily cut anyway. (But I did just commute to SF & left my custom painted & beloved bike outside the SF library at Civic Center for four hours without incident a few weeks ago. It works. But few cyclists can or want to carry that 13 lb beast on a bicycle.)

@@vigilant_1934 thanks for the follow up. I get their newsletters, so I've gotten the updates. Like the anchors, but could REALLY use a chain to secure nine hanging bikes. No way can I justify NINE anchors and NINE more D or A1000's! With their cheapest options, it would be $5,400 to secure them with their anchors.
If I could use two of their anchors, two D1000's and one chain, that would save a BUNCH!

If I were inclined to steal a bike, and l came across a Hiplok D 1000, I wouldn't waste my angle grinder blade on the lock itself, but on what it was locked up to. Chances are the tubular steel it would be locked to is much easier for an angle grinder to cut through. Real solution? Lock up with an angle grinder resistant lock in a highly visible space, and for a short time period. If you have to park longer (like at work), see if your employer will let you park it inside the business space. If thieves can't steal it, they will vandalize it to satisfy their frustration. That actually happened to me, and my employer agreed to let me park the bike inside.

I haven't had any HUGE issues with this lock yet! ruclips.net/user/postUgkxfyHDlEqk6hqu9acdvK5NGzZsGKSokSbv It seems sturdy and like it will get the job done. I really like that it has a twisting lock feature to keep out dirt and debris. However, the mounting system is much too light for the lock, and continues to get loose/move around. It's mostly made of plastic parts, and I've had to tighten it a few times in the past week or so that I've had it. I'm worried that it's going to break off at some point while I'm riding. I'm considering just scrapping that part, but that would mean having to carry the heavy lock i my backpack and adding more weight. I wish I could have given this more stars, but without the mounting system, it's just another heavy lock that I have to cart around. UPDATE: Increased rating to 5 stars because the seller offered to provide a new lock and mounting system. Really appreciate the attention to customer service!!

  • @NO_Expectations

Its a small and chunky lock, I do feel it should be yellow somehow from a distance yellow gives off a more "Look at me, I'm a big chunky lock or just I'm secure, so go away" feeling. Along with a alarmed disc lock and an alarmed retractable cable lock. All these can be carried very easily as long as your not going to far away from your bike very few people will attack 3 locks if 2 are alarmed no matter how flimsy they look it will catch peoples attention but not many people will intervene in any kind of crime and for their own safety they shouldn't, but someone may call the police.
With the price of motorcycles I would like to see a gear lock, select 1st gear and it will not disengage until the power is turned on with an alarm and a tracker installed inside your bikes frame. On my bike I have GPS, Bluetooth, electronic clocks, tyre pressure even an altitude clock but security it has nothing and that is sad.

On my review, the lock mechanism sucks. The graphics itself is strong, the corner locking mechanism is no better than any other POS U lock. pissed. Dont need an angle grinder at all. the pins that lock it are flimsy.........not even 1/4 inch. No you dont need to cut. Just pound the corner with a 27 ounce framing hammer.

    Advice:
    Use any quality lock SMARTLY!
Don’t just lazily put it through one wheel spoke like in the video. This WILL encourage a thief to destroy your moto’s front wheel to steal the whole bike.
Go through the rim instead. Or more than one spoke AND the rotor. Grasp as much with the lock as you can. Go through the most stout thing you can.
It annoys me to see lock companies advertise people casually (& lazily) locking a bicycle through the frame top tube only.
Doing this does encourage thieves to cut your frame! Why are lock makers marketing a security product in a way that more easily enables someone to defeat the sole purpose of their product? (I think it’s to sell convenience, IMHO.)
Make what you lock through on your bike stout AND expensive. Not a single easy-to-cut part like one aluminum spoke of a mag or aluminum wheel.
Anyway, NEVER use a quality bike lock only on a thin bicycle frame tube.
Lock through the head tube (has a steerer tube inside), the seat tube, or even better, through the rear wheel & tire between the seat & chain stays. Even better if your front wheel is included on the other side of the rack or pole. That locks both wheels AND frame with ONE lock. The Hiplok D1000 can do this with almost all road bikes & mountain bikes with narrower street tires.
Take the time to utilize your lock to its fullest advantage and thieves will move on.
And what I post almost everywhere in bike security discussions:
The top three lame smug YT bike security comments:
    1) LPL will pick it in 20 seconds!
    2) They’ll cut the frame!
    3) They’ll cut the rack!
    Real-world rebuttal:
    1) Thieves don’t pick locks.
    2) When thieves choose expensive bikes, why destroy the most expensive part? And when they don’t care if the bike’s $800 or $5,000, they’re intending to dump it quickly for $100 to buy drugs. They can’t unload a destroyed bike quickly on the next street corner.
    3) Yes, racks can be cut, but it’s rare. Thieves are lazy opportunists and will move on to easier targets.
There are always exceptions. But my experience In avoiding theft of very nice bikes over 40 years says using the best locks & your smarts will put the odds in your favor.
Don’t lock a bicycle up outside over night.
    Use GPS trackers.
Record your serial number & register your bike.
Buy insurance as a last resort to attenuate your exposure.
If you have 3 or more $3,000+ bikes, the responsible thing to do is get insurance.
But Hiplok gets an A+ in my book for making a HUGE step forward to thwart bike thieves. Kudos!!

    • @dudeonbike800
      @dudeonbike800 6 месяцев назад

@@DreamClean it entails a big loss, but SOME thieves are resourceful and/or work with theft rings that have the wherewithal to rebuild bikes & sell parts.
When a carbon bike with XTR has a $1,500 parts kit, $200 carbon bars, $500 dropper post, $3,000 carbon wheels, $500 rear shock and $1,200 fork, suddenly those parts will generate some good money sold separately, or put on a frame that WASN'T cut to be stolen.
Not that common, but why tempt fate when you can much more effectively lock the bike better without any more effort.
