May I just take a moment to say how much I appreciate the time you put in to give us the historical background in your vlogs. It elevates the viewing experience tremendously.
Your travel vlogs never fail to fascinate and educate. Deeply appreciate the history and culture you share of places and people I will never journey to. Thank you so much.
I agree wholeheartedly. The info u share with us is just sooo interesting and u do it so respectfully . I'm sure I will never be able to see any of these places but one can get a real feel for it when experiencing it through your eyes. Thankyou.
I find Stephanie's historical/cultural info. as interesting and wonderful as that English historian I used to watch on TV, Michael Wood. Although Stephanie's vlogs don't allow for an hour-long format on just history I really appreciated her curating those spicy little bits of historical and cultural drama that keep us engaged & fascinated to investigate on our own further. 😍🧐🤓
Hi Stephanie, This was probably the most interesting and beautiful trips you have taken. The cultural differences aside, but the housing, shops, restaurants are certainly the best Japan has to show. A safe and speedy return to LaLande. Mark & Scott
MSM, and collagen, and yeast-cleanse (for systemic candida that can inflame the joints), & probiotics ...among many other things (like Lycine & Zinc to combat viruses that can also hide in our joints), have been a God-send for my arthritis... plus giving up sugar that feeds the bacteria & other badies that hang out in our joints as we age. Also, try giving up gluten, it helped my inflammation response quiet down tremendously. Unfortunately, many of us develop 'allergies' or can no longer properly digest certain foods as we age like we did when we were young. Just suggestions ..not a diagnosis.
Loving this content, Steph! Life changes; thus, content based on life changes, too, and that's wonderful. I'm sure most of your viewers enjoy it as much as me. Please don't waste your time on the bitter and envious people that are commenting on these vlogs (a very small minority). Best!
How wonderful to have people like Stephanie, that can take some of us along to see all these beautiful places that we’ll probably never be able to visit. Japan is so beautiful.
I appreciate this trip to Japan. My husband was Japanese and he passed before he could take me there so this has been educational and heart-warming for me.👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
@anitanagahisa3049 Condolences to you❤ I hope you may find your way to your husbands’ ancestry land and have that experience. If you do, may you share that journey with us.
The short jacket is Haori, the long robes are Yukata, not Kimono which is a much more formal robe requiring and Obi belt. Just for anyone interested. I really loved this footage. I've always been a great admirer of this periods woodblock prints, and especially those depicting life and landscaped in snowfall and rainfall, so seeing it in the rain like this was superb! I'm enjoying this travel vlog immensely. ❤ 🙏
I, too, am enjoying this travel vlog. Since they were so close to Nagano, I hope that they also visited the Hokusai Museum in Obuse about half an hour out of Nagano. The Hokusai Museum is the workshop of the famous woodblock artist from the Edo period named Hokusai. He was famous for the iconic giant wave we associate with Japan. It is called the Giant Waves off Kanagawa.
@@IvicaAjanovski why do you ask? There are plenty of answers online, please google, it's far too much to describe here, but Japanese selvedge denim is of superior quality, therfore expensive.
Stephanie, just a note to always cross your Yukata, Kimono etc Left over Right (think 'Leftover Rice') as the opposite (right over left) is ONLY used for dressing people who have passed away 👀 Loving these videos!
Wow, that was an amazing tour. Good for you all to go despite the weather and get to enjoy without crowds. And Stephanie, what a trooper you always are, no luggage arrival and you just did it anyways and made the best with the cloths you had.
Fascinating place and great information by Stephabnie. Makes me want to go back to Japan already. We returned from Japan exacly a week ago, didn't make it to Nogano this time. Thankis for sharing.
Wonderful trip, I have a Japanese Aunt, haven't seen her in years. I miss her. She introduced me to her culture, art, and I have never forgotten. Thank you Stephanie and Micheal and friends.
It’s all so beautiful! The image of the tree and the misty sky was so picturesque. It looked like a painted Hollywood backdrop; too beautiful to be real 🥰. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us. I appreciate your friend’s willingness to share you with filming so we can vicariously experience & learn.
Thank you Stephanie for the lovely walk around tour. Pity the weather wasn’t on your side, but that didn’t deter you. Loved that village of yesteryear how they built so elegantly. I can’t imagine my children growing up with rice paper walls and doors. Our house would be full of holes 😂 Everything in Japan is so pretty, elegant, quaint and calming. Maybe we should all take a leaf out of their book
Oh this is beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing your traveling experience with us!! Traveling vicariously through you is such a treat!! Japan is a bit out of my comfort zone!!! 😂 so glad you forge ahead and just GO!!! ♥️ blessings to you all!
You guys are so lucky to not be in a crowd of other tourist. Its like you had your own little village to yourselves. Have a good Ramen....you were in the rain.
You are soooooo good at travel vlogs!!!!! I enjoy every second of these!! Your explanations are so descriptive and it makes me want to travel so badly!!!!
You are a joy to watch and listen to as you are so thorough, lovely and interesting whether you explain these wonderful places you visit or your “ordinary“ days at Laland. Japan looks amazing! Thank you for sharing!😃
Absolutely calming and lovely. Thank you for starting my day in Japan. I has brought back memories of visiting twenty years ago. Even candy shops are beautiful!!
I agree that weather should never hinder one from exploring. The fact that you had the picturesque village and shops without hoards of tourists made the day even more enjoyable. The houses are exquisite and minimalist. Japanese cuisine is fascinating. Sadly Phillipe has missed out on this wonderful trip.
I am loving your Japanese home tour , wondering if they had a heating system considering the paper doors and grass mats for flooring. Must have been very chilly without glass?
I love your visit to this area of Japan, somewhere I don’t think I’ll ever get to, thank you for including it in your channel, also so much for thanks for sharing what you’ve learned about the area, the people! Such a peaceful atmosphere! Sorry Phillip had to miss it!
Stephanie, you are a spectacular tour guide. Thanks to you I have enjoyed a wonderful trip to Venice, and now Japan. Your generosity in taking others with you and sharing your experiences is much appreciated
I am having a Japanese experience. My family are on holiday in Japan and apart from the last village seem to be following you around and have sent me some great pictures and videos of such pretty places. Even had a shot inside the bullet train where they took a two hour trip back to Tokyo. Enjoy the rest of your visit. 🍷🍷🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you Stephanie for these last few blogs they have all been wonderful Japan looks just so fabulous it’s definitely on my bucket list ,I have to admit I miss seeing you and Philip together ,you have been so brave with all the food to.Seeing lots of love ❤xx
Another lovely video of a part of the world I will never see in person, but thanks to you, have been blessed to tour online! Safe travels! And THANK YOU AGAIN! 🏯🎎🥢🎑
Stephanie, all I can say is, you are a trooper! Wet, in the snow and with nothing warm enough to wear defending you from the weather other than an umbrella, and despite all of that, you are perfectly lovely company! I would have your company very happily on any trip with me! Thank you so much for showing us all of the beautiful places you visitied. I've enjoyed everything and will enjoy a few more viewings.
Stephanie I cannot thank you enough for this vlog because I do not know if I will ever get to go there myself and what a beautiful place this is I really can't thank you enough
Your travel diaries are so so delightful. There’s info, there’s scenic beauty, there’s whimsy, there’s humour, there’s bringing it back to your own chateau, both with the architecture and also with Marie’s cuisine. Things I took from this video was the availability of inclement weather wear, not necessarily kimonos but maybe shower proof jackets and umbrellas to be borrowed. Let’s face it it’s not always sunny in France! Even in summer! 😀 maybe having a few jackets and umbrellas that hadn’t thought ahead might be a good idea! As for all that lacquerware I could not have restrained myself. I would have bought lots and gotten Marie to undertake a lesson in Ikebana which I think would suit her floral style. Continuing with the lacquerware, I do hope you bought some hair combs and decorated hair pins. I used to love your hair up with the pins you had until they broke early last summer. As always, love and such joy at what you share with us from Neil in Australia 🇦🇺
I am SO loving this series! I'm from the US, and as our Christmas gift to our sons, on News Year Day, we flew our 27 year old son out to Tokyo to visit our 23 year old son that is with the US Navy and he's stationed there. They spent 2 weeks traveling these areas.......Tokyo, Nagano, Kyoto, Nara, and Hakone (to see Mt. Fuji). They had fun but were exhausted!
Love, love, love this! I’m sad Phillip wasn’t there. I’m thinking the rain kept the streets vacant so even though the weather was wanting it did benefit ease of travel!
I enjoyed the whole of your japanese adventure but this part was the best. The co bs were my favourite of all the laquerware. The waLk through the illage a d the nature outside was so exquisite. I adored the trees.
Excellent vlog and I will have to watch it again! The combs and historical shop where they were handmade was very interesting! Thank you all four of you!
I love Japan and I have travelled there for many years . Your description and information is very good, you are making me nostalgic of these beautiful historic towns , thank you 😊
Its so crazy to think that that castle and Lalande were build around the same time. I think that's always the fun part with travel you get to see how others live and have lived.
Stephanie, you are hugely generous in content and in your enthusiastic narration of each vlog. Thank you for consistently giving us beautiful, interesting and intelligent videos - and peppering them with your wit!
The ice cream mochi you like it’s called daifuku Unfortunately the only shop that still makes lacquered goods in Narai Juku is Hananoya, they are not cheap but I’ve had mine for years and it’s still beautiful. The other shops mostly sell trinkets from China or Vietnam.
Stephanie l have never been to Japan…so you have taken me with you all the way from Australia! l haven’t had to organise my accomodation, food or friends. Its been a very relaxed trip sitting on my sofa and enjoying the scenery. 😀😀😀
Thank you, Stephanie and hosts and Micheal, for this informative tour of this beautiful town. It is such a joy to learn about cultures. We were a big family and we always removed our shoes in the porch or on the step. It is a sign of respect and also helped keep the inside cleaner. From sand in summer and wet snow in winter. What a wonderful trip you are on. The food looked so beautiful. ❤
I worked for Sanyo many years. Osaka ,& Kyoto were where we stayed many times.. Have you experienced the authentic pillow? Made of soy beans, most uncomfortable ! We were told to take our bed pillow with us if we want a good night sleep. Which meant going north we would run the risk of soy pillows. Notice how thin the trees are and close together? It was purposed to slow down invaders.

How delightful. The rain made it so atmospheric. It was like Memoirs of a Geisha.
Yes! I remember the book and film, over 20 years ago, I'm sure! Bindi, love from Oz!🥰
Time to watch Shogun again!! Have always been fascinated with Japanese culture.
I have arthritis.. it actually made it feel far more painful.. psychosymatic, I thought.. until I checked outside.. its raining hard here too. lol..

How wonderful to have people like Stephanie, that can take some of us along to see all these beautiful places that we’ll probably never be able to visit. Japan is so beautiful.
Chris and Sonja were spectacular hosts as well.
I remember you and Philip visiting them a couple of years ago. Must look for the vlog!
Honestly Stephanie, I would follow you all over the world with these video’s.

The old houses are stunning. Such relaxing and natural beauty
Wonderful watching you discover old Japan, husband and I experienced the same atmosphere in the pouring rain on our only visit more than 20 years ago.
What a beautiful little town with wonderful lacquer wear and porcelain plus delightful dining experiences and komonos!
Wonderful trip, I have a Japanese Aunt, haven't seen her in years. I miss her. She introduced me to her culture, art, and I have never forgotten. Thank you Stephanie and Micheal and friends.
