I've had one since day they were released. Definitely the most advanced scanner I've ever owned. The color screen is fully customizable and speaking of customizable it's the easiest P25 scanner to program IMO. This is a must have in Michigan!! USB-B port is both to charge And program.
Agreed. Especially if you live in a county with a simulcast system. I had a Whistler TRX-1 and it had trouble receiving Eaton County. I got this scanner, problem solved. A Unication G5 pager would work well too with simulcast, just lacks scanner features.
Are you in NY? I assume you are. What else have you picked up in NY? Im on the Island and cant get Nassau. I can get some city stuff but, its a little far
I currently have a TRX-1 monitoring FDNY, 60 Control (Westchester), and Nassau as well as the CSX River Sub. I do plan on upgrading to an SDS100 as my TRX-1 started to break down.
I agree with MiTreasureHunter. I've had one since they came out too and it's my most used radio. I have the EU/UK model, the trunking systems it supports aren't used here of course but most services have moved to DMR, which this does amazingly well. In hindsight I should have got the SDS200 since I rarely ever use it on the go. For any UK/EU readers, the built in database is of no use here as is usual with Uniden kit, but it's irrelevant, the programming software is free and easy to use. Since most of the UK private services have moved to DMR, this radio has made scanning fun again. It's a lot of money, but well worth it. Get one.
Just received this sds100 today off of Amazon. It works great right out of the box. My HP-2 was on and scanning while I was setting up the sds, then left ‘em both on. I found an interesting call so locked onto it and followed what happened to the kid who’s raft was capsized in a lake. Meanwhile the HP-2 just kept scanning for new calls. I immediately had an epiphany as soon as another call happened on the HP-2. With two similar scanners on at the same time I can now follow one call to completion without missing the other stuff going on out there. Having two scanners is a must. It just took me 45 years to figure that out.
Is the new version going to have a built in GPS! I'm wondering why the GPS wasn't included in a GPS based scanner. Even the cheapest cellphone has a GPS built in. How much would it cost to install a cellphone GPS at the factory?
Just purchased mine two days ago from Bearcat warehouse and it was $70.00 cheaper than Amazon and Zip scanners both plus I got an extended warranty and preprogramming from them, and it was still cheaper than the final price of both of the other places. Only worry is the problem that they had with that bottom clip for the battery door. Have they fixed the problem that they had with it where it kept breaking and they did not have replacement parts to fix it?
I enjoy my sds 100 too, but expensive with added features and programming an sd-card with area frequencies, back in late 2018 for about $1,000. However, where I am now, most police frequencies use encryption, so there is no point trying to receive them, but it amazing to see how scanners have changed since I first had a synthasized scanner from Bearcat in 1976, and the older types before that. Thank for the review.
See the problem is Ray, that people think the police and fire the end-all and be-all and they’re really not! And Seattle I’ve been able to pick up Pike Place Market Security it runs our local market in which I play! I’ve been able to pick up the ceiling bathrooms to do lotta security! You don’t really need the cops anymore!
I have this wonderful scanner but will be posting it for sale. Our public safety in our area went full encrypted for now. The issue to restore is underway. It does so much more, but that was my purpose when purchasing.
I own a SDS100 and I am enjoying it tremendously. I just had a quick question... I am currently using the SDS100 with a Tram 1410 VHF/UHF Broadband Discone Base Antenna. This Antenna is mounted outdoor with a 75" digital coax cable connection. I'm not 100% sure if this is a good idea. Any thoughts on my set up is greatly appreciated. It seems to be picking up my local channels with great clarity (Fire, EMS, POLICE). However, I feel like I am possibly missing out on so much more. The full database is on, and my local favorites are also programed. I just think I should be picking up possibly a bit more. Thanks for your helpful videos. You Are Appreciated!

hello, excellent video... one question... I live in Argentina and I can't enter my postal code... the question is... can it automatically scan everything that is in the air... do I need to enter my postal code?
Argentina is not included in the data base. You can enter your GPS location but without a data base for Argentina it is not going to work. The only way to make it to work, someone has to write a program and collect all the frequencies for Argentina with the GPS locations and postal code information. BCD 436 hp. Great radio. Black & white. Screen. Hard to see. . .find your channel you like then leave only. On your favorite. Channel. Inside. Not bad. Sds 100. Worth the extra money. Ok.
I had the uniden 125 at home. Picked up a lot, including close calls, but what I heard was just static noise. Not one voice could be heard. They said I had to buy another antenna. I think out of the box these things only work when you are at the airport, and not at home, even outdoors, at about 10 kilometers away from the airport. I was quite disappointed. Since my €.70 pl368 Tecsun picks up hundreds of channels inside the house, on its own antenna. (No airband though). I just expected to much of this scanner i guess.
Someone told me that if it is P25 phase 1 or 2, scanners are not allowed to decode this, or is that incorrect? Also, how can it find someone talking in the 900 MHz range on the ISM band, because that uses frequency hopping with a profile ID added.

And ALL of this in a radio that is analog, not digital. So what's my point? Those fancy overpriced digital scanners should've been programmable with a smartphone app and a Bluetooth connection A LONG TIME AGO. Uniden IS NOT taking advantage of available technology. For that matter, neither are the manufacturers of ham gear. Now you know why I WON'T buy an SDS-100, it's old technology.
Yes. Microphone plugs into side of the unit. Since you're listening to the police, they ask that you try not to use microphone to talk to the police ....just listen unless it's an emergency then use microphone and state..."officer down 10-33!" As loud as possible.

$650 ...no thanks. You can get a basic ham transceiver for that. i guess the price doesn't matter to some. So many agencies are now encrypted. Thanks for the review. I do have a "not so advanced" Uniden BC125 analog scanner.
What ever do you mean? It’ll work everywhere! I bet you could pick up Disneyland Security! For example in my area of Seattle I can pick up Pike Place market Security, and I can pick up the ceiling matters! Which much do security in my area it’s actually better than the police!
Answere. Knob came off .? Knob fine. There be parts. Under sdss100 I saw e bay were. Selling. Knobs ordered one didn’t. Work. I’m sure there something under the knobs?. I didn’t want. Pay. .the radio sds. Works. Fine? You have the address to get fix. Or phone. ## about 2 years.sds 100. Tre your self. I have the knob. Must be a spring. Or.
Just too complicated. You would think with all the technology it has it would be simpler. The more technology something has, the harder it is to use. Hopefully, someday technology will actually make something easier to use. I also don't like the fact that it is so light. 25 years ago, we got new Motorola STX radios at work. They were police/fire grade, and would supposedly stop a bullet. You could also use them as a weapon. Yes I know they cost several times what this does, but a lot of that cost was due to the technology and capabilities of these radios at the time. It wasn't just because of the construction. Our company's radio tech said it only cost a couple hundred $$$ to put the guts of the radio in a new case.
I bet you you’re wrong! If you go on the scanners could probably listen to local security just because it’s not a fire the police doesn’t mean you can’t figure out what’s going on in your neighborhood! People think the police and fire the end-all and be-all it’s just not true!
Just super glue the knob back on! What kind of thought process does that take! Or by another radio that’s broken for parts! I bet you could order another knob! You have so many options!
This a great scanner hope you do more videos on the different features. I just bought one and run it all day long. Much easier to program. Thanks Eric for showing this! de N2XW

$650 ...no thanks. You can get a basic ham transceiver for that. i guess the price doesn't matter to some. So many agencies are now encrypted. Thanks for the review. I do have a "not so advanced" Uniden BC125 analog scanner.
I still monitor the railroad with my analog scanner. I have the BC125 and a BC15x.
Those scanners seem a little complicated to program
There is actually nothing to program just type in your zip code
Hello Eric KJ4YZI

I GREW UP IN THE FIRE DEPT AND I HAVE POLICE INMY FAMILY AS WELL . I LIKE TO LISTEN TO FIRE CALLS AND EMS CALLS . I DO NOT CHASE AFER THEM .
Probably not unlocked
Your giving info on it but cant afford one...lol. lol😅😅😅
I'm sorry it's pricey and you can't afford one. Mine has been sitting on my desk for a couple years now and I don't even use it
I wish I had that police scanner sds100 can you get me one.
Review of 3 year old scanner. So confusing...
Ooooooo drool
Probably wouldn't be worth buying in my area everything police wise is encrypted
after all municipalities change to LTE all these scanners will become paperweight.
If won't work in Florida HP
What ever do you mean? It’ll work everywhere! I bet you could pick up Disneyland Security! The problem is the people think that the police and fire the end-all and be-all security in your area and they’re just not!

Yep. This is why Butel software is a must.
Porque vc não fala em português
Nice scanner but not for $650
Meu deus
Don't need it. Nothing to listen to around here.
I bet you you’re wrong! If you go on the scanners could probably listen to local security just because it’s not a fire the police doesn’t mean you can’t figure out what’s going on in your neighborhood! People think the police and fire the end-all and be-all it’s just not true!
Vc e a comédia

Horrible review, you clearly had no idea. Terrible.
700 DOLLAR PAPER WEIGHT, THIS THING IS USELESS!!
why

Knob. Fell off. How to get a new one knob
Just super glue the knob back on! What kind of thought process does that take! Or by another radio that’s broken for parts! I bet you could order another knob! You have so many options!
Um.....eBay.
Knob just slides back on. 3d print one if you Need another one
This a great scanner hope you do more videos on the different features. I just bought one and run it all day long. Much easier to program. Thanks Eric for showing this! de N2XW
Love mine it’s the best scanner that exists. De KC3NLS
I was going to buy one many years ago but I have been watching everything go encrypted. Figured the money would be better spent on a ham ht.
Are you still of the same view? Waste of money right - in TN one city is still unencrypted but all else is blocked. And i can get the unencrypted city i mentioned with scanner pro app anyways, which cost me peanuts
