LYRICS:
My friend David, was a good kid
He had my back, always knew he did
He was different than most
And maybe I was too
Hanging out with the in-crowd just wasn’t our thing
There was a whole lot more
Than we could see on these plains
Well, some people just seem to get stuck, and hang around
It’s college or trade school for those with the means
There’s never been any small town for those in between
Yeah the poor folks they go to work, or they go to war
I did fifteen hundreds days in the corps
And I got back, nothing looked the same anymore
I got on with the local police, it just seemed to fit
Things have changed
By then David had a daughter and a son
And a rap sheet to prove all the time that he’d done
He was just a burned out beat down shell of my old friend
And on a three day binge he was speeding through town
And I bumped the wailers just to try and slow him down
He didn’t know that it was me, and he took off
Oh how things change
And I found his truck in the floodplain upside down
It was a hell of a rain I don’t know if he’d drowned
Or if he died on impact, it must have rolled three times
Yeah, the only thing to make matters worse
Is that his mama’s a late night ER nurse
And he was DOA, she just about lost her mind
David’s wife drops by every once in a while
And childhood stories always make her smile
But somehow we always go back to that day
And I found his truck in the floodplain upside down
It was a hell of a rain, I don’t know if he’d drowned
Or if he died on impact, it must have rolled three times
Yeah, the only thing to make matters worse
Is that his mama’s a late night ER nurse
And he was DOA, she just about lost her mind
Ain’t it the times

We lost our son Michael David 7months ago in a car accident where he rolled seversl times. My wife was asking Siri to play a song and this song popped up instead. She shared what happened to me so I listened to it.
She lost her mind literally when our son died but is doing better now. Losing a child is without a doubt the worst thing that can happen to a person.
For me, my belief in Jesus Christ and knowing that my son believed in Jesus Christ is what has gotten me through. Believing that my son is in heaven and that I will see him again is what I hold on to. God has shown us miracles and he has given us many of what my girls and I call Godincidences. They are undeniable.
So for anyone who has lost a loved one I pray that you have God to get you through.💙
As an alcoholic, this humbles tf out of me.
I hope you get through your pain, bro. Stay strong.
@@TheOutlawMan like wise
Feel you brother, stay strong.
We will prevail..this drankin ain't no punk as an ax meth addict.. this one's tough. My body ain't liking it.
I'm the same.....here with ya
David, thank you. 2 years ago yesterday, I was on night shift in the ER. My dad drunk, crashed his Harley and came into our hospital as a level 1 trauma. I didn’t know it was him until I went to take him to the morgue. Someone just sent me this link 💚 bless you
Lost my best friend and a cousin within six months of each other when we were in our early 20's, this song puts a lump in my throat and takes my breath completely away.
One of Jinks best written songs!!! Hell of a song boys!
Agreed 100% brought a damn tear to my eye the first time I heard it
He can write it is just you can see the Outlaw Country types. “
Agreed
Ex military my self , hit the bottle and thanks to my niece dug myself out. But lost close friend to the bottle so this song hits home .
I totally agree. This man has passion and soul... God bless the veterans.
Masterpiece. If this song doesn't resonate in your heart, you don't have one.
First time I heard this song. My cousin David died today, only 54. He listened to Cody all the time, he love every song you have done. I'm listening to you, lots of good memories listening to you!
Cody jinks honestly got me through the toughest times of my life and this song was and still is a go to on a late night drive
Lost a buddy in a Jeep wreck at 18 almost identical to this song.. go Cody go doing great things
Love how his songs tell stories, that’s the kind of country music I remember as a kid 💗
I love how they open songs from this session with a close up of that beautiful telecaster. Cody Jinks for president!
Mr. Chris Claridy on the Telecaster. Cody’s lead guitarist. A great picker!
I love you Cody! God bless you!!!!!! ❤
This reminds me of my drinking days so glad I made it out of that life and now my son and family is the only drug I strive for each day
Cody really speaks to us older folks , white working class men..
I'm Hispanic and this is my favorite song of his, lol
Yea I think this song could be said about a lot of people.
@@TheOutlawMan And I'm a working class white man living in Mexico and I love it! lol
My nephew, my friend, and like my son, named David died the day before my birthday last year. This song hits and hurts so bad
I wish they would play him in New England. Nobody plays him in Mass
My daddy talks about his childhood best friend Stevie sometimes (very rarely) My dad enlisted in the army at 18 and Stevie didn’t, he stuck around home and got into all kinds of trouble. Got married and divorced within just a few years. My dads brothers and Stevie kinda knocked him down for enlisting. Fast forward to 1998 - my dad was back from Desert Storm and joined the local PD where they grew up. One night he hears about a local man hanged himself in the shower with a dog choke chain - it was Stevie. All kinds of claw marks on his neck like he'd tried to get out of it. He hardly ever mentions Stevie but I know he thinks of him and the whole thing makes me sad. If you just can't take anymore, I understand, but please talk to your best friend first before you make any permanent decisions. Someone loves you.
Never had a song tell my life story practically to a T. From age 15 to 33 active addiction overdose after overdose jail here jail there we all kno the story n how it ends. But a little over 3 years ago I decided to change my life . Hurd this song 15 mins ago for the first time what a powerful song.................. David
One of his best David. Use the lyrics as fuel for the fire brother. Keep the faith.
Stay strong
You can do it 💪
RIP David and Eddie give heaven some hell boys
My best friend died in a car accident August of this year and it has been one of the hardest things I have gone through in my life. It’s just nice to know that I’m not alone
My buddy David died in an accident. This song hits different now.
One of my favorite songs reminds me of my brother David R.I.P Bro
Great song it's making cry
He’s speaking for most of us. That’s why the song blew up!
As a single parent with just a son. I would probably lose my mind completely. He’s what I live for and to lose him all at once would destroy me. Pure and simple, a song I hate to hear but yes, I’d lose my my mind as well

Cody your voice is great. It's country for sure. Keep it up brother. Don't let Nashvegas destroy you.
He is one of the only ones that actually sing country songs now. It would be awesome if he put the lap steel guitar in it!
Drunk on my couch listening to this.
Underrated video
As someone who survived a car wreck where I ran off the road and went airborne over a creek and landed upright on the other side, this hits me hard.
