Bottom line to all this, if your drinking is negatively impacting your life, then you are drinking too much. If people are starting to tell you that you are drinking too much, then you are likely in denial and drinking too much. If you show up to work hungover, then you are drinking too much. If you show up any where hungover, then you are drinking too much. As Kevin says you are diminished and why do that to yourself on purpose? Six years sober and life was never this easy and happy. Alcohol is relentless. It is pushed on you at nearly every social function you will attend. Bring your own non alcoholic beverage there. Alcohol doesn't make you sophisticated, doesn't make you an adult. There its a reason you don't smoke cigarettes, shoot heroin, smoke meth and there is a reason you have had enough of drugging yourself with alcohol. Remember that.

What was amazing to me after I quit for good was how fast my mindset changed. It was almost overnight and made stopping so much easier. I am glad I don't have to battle myself anymore and every change since has been a good one. No more regret no more hangovers and no more drug abusing bullshit.

I always struggled to moderate. I used to always make the mistake of 'try to have a break, until I can moderate'.... then just go back to bad habits. This time around, I decided I just needed to quit and be done with it, period. I am on day 56, it's the longest I've ever done, but my mindset is rock solid. In my head, it's just more final than before, noticeably so. There is simply no interest. I've had plenty of opportunities to drink, including beach BBQs and family events, but I'm been steadfast. That mindset change is key, and I've been looking for it for years.

Kevin I’m so sorry for the loss of your wife. I haven’t heard you speak about it before, though it sounds like it was a while ago. After a lot of thought I’ve come to the conclusion that some of the difficulties in giving up alcohol lie in the fact that most of us learn to drink in adolescence, and giving up involves persuading a rebellious teenager to change his/her ways. If you remember that adolescence can last until the age of 25, and that all phases of development are present in us until death, this becomes quite a compelling argument/consideration. When I realised this it became a bit easier to curb the impulsive behaviour that leads to drinking (I’m the father of five with all of whom I negotiated adolescence) so negotiating my own return to impulsive behaviour was a bit easier. Wishing all engaged in the fight against alcohol the very best of luck. 😂😂😂

For a lot of lads in the UK+Ireland, you would have to add in drugs as part of a booze bender. In fact, that is how they get through a 25 pint bender. Not suggesting you took drugs, but many do in order to be able to continue drinking. That combination puts you into a state of mind where anything can happen. It can easily go wrong in so many ways. Frightening.

My tolerance has really started to concern me now - can easily slam 16-20 stronger IPAs through the day, wake up sleeping on the coach at 2am contacts still in my eyes, laptop on my chest, full glass of untouched beer - hell of a way to wake up.
Past years my sober record was over a month, tried again several times this year - 2 weeks a few times. Still trying to figure out why I slip, there's an ironic part of how it feels very easy to just give it up - not much physical or mental pain in withdrawal - it's the "feeling like celebrating" and sometimes "peer pressure" that gets me. I need to celebrate with a good sober run and healthy dinner. Celebrate the ability to say no or "I'm (already) good" when offered a poison drink, celebrate by just acknowledging feeling good sober within and hearing the nature.

For me, especially with the IPAs, it’s the taste. Especially with no eating or after a long workout. I tried non alcoholic IPA today after a long cycle ride and it was great. The placebo effect was there too as I thought I was getting buzzed after two.
I’ve been binge drinking for last 30 years. It’s effected every aspect of my life ..in a negative way.

I think we should track our consumption in alcohol units, I understand the idea that it's not a matter of quantity, and that anyways after alcoholism it will be zero units a day/week/year.
But for still active alcoholics harm reduction is important, so the less the better. And for sober alcoholics like you it can be useful to evaluate the stress we put on our body/the severity of the drinking.
Of course, and it's important to remind it, this is still to a certain degree subjective because different bodies handle alcohol differently meaning the same dosis will do more or less harm depending on the person.
In my opinion peaks of 25 pints is very bad but what helped you is your drinking pattern which was healthier.
I didn't drink as much on a single day but my overall pattern was quite bad because I had to take in a quite high dosis on each evening of each day of the year.
I unfortunately relapsed but due to all the work I've done I drink less now and can go with some effort back into sobriety.
This is not very satisfying but without all those efforts and watching hundreds of hours on channels like yours I would be dead now.

25 pints? If it wasn't for the fact that you're Irish, I would say that's a lot of Guiness to be drinking in one day.

Same here. The money and time I wasted in the pub from 17 to 25. Could have got myself a great education and a great career. Or maybe not 😊
    But the pub didn’t help

I’d lose count on a binge night out , it could be a mixture of beer and spirits so hard to tell but I’d say on a long night out I’d drink 17 drinks

Is two bottles of red wine per week too much? I have one bottle one night and another a few days later. I drink no other alcoholic drinks.

I can only tell you from my personal perspective. I would rather run a marathon than drink a single drop of alcohol. I hate running 😀
