Put two of these out two years ago..that evening sitting by the garage,having a beer, we could see one of the vines 300 yards away with a couple of does working it over..pretty cool, I’m a believer

I love your information. I live in rural ag land north carolina. I take what info you give and apply some to our nc woods and ag land . A little is different but none the less yout info and knowing what crops and brush we have, I have killed many of deer nice bucks and does when needed . Thank you for your videos
Dylan was out at my place in February this year. He pointed out a grape vine and said that it was the perfect mock scrape vine. I hung that vine over my first mock scrape last weekend.
Really like these vine scrapes. Have videos of 2 of the biggest bucks I've seen working them hard and snapping them. Great tool to add to property attraction!
I found a vine on my new property by my new food plot. I dressed the ground up a bit and put a camera on a tree nearby. The deer hammer this thing! Thank you for the info!
Best scrape ever! I started mine 2 years ago after watching your videos. I have some of the coolest videos of deer of all sizes hitting my vines year round! I just set up my blind in thick junk because I can't hang a stand in this spot but plan of shooting the best buck in the neighborhood this season over my scrape. Love it, love the footage I get and love seeing deer use it. Best tip ever!

I discovered a great primary scrape back in the woods on my property last year. The licking branch is just atarting to get a bit too high for most deer so I added a vine to it the other day and put a camera on it. I can't wait to pull the card in a couple months.
One of my favorite and best improvements I’ve done on my property. I just love it, put cameras on every one.i get inventory of every deer in the neighborhood! Good stuff

Jeff, I’ve used this tactic for the last several years after seeing one of your videos years ago. I’ll tell you what, we had an annual scrape that we always had pics of year round use. There was no vine, rather a low hanging busy branch off of a tree. But I added a vine at that spot, and the activity literally doubled. This to me is one of the easiest and most effective way to record what deer are using the property. And during the hunting season it is invaluable.
If I have one in a windy spot I will take a piece of chain( I did rust the chain to take the shine off) and weave 510 cord through it so its above the stick but but the stick is still tied on with the cord and it considerably decreases the swing and adds some resistance to the stick which the bucks seem to love
Hi Wes! I've found getting the camera more at about 10 to 12' away and then using a long vine like the one we have helps greatly. This spot is fully exposed to a lot of wind up high from the West and we have no false trips in over a week.

Jeff, I swear by your mock scrape tactics!!! I've had deer activity on mock scrapes less than an hour after making them. Anyone that is reluctant to try this is really missing out on deer inventory as well as hunting opportunities. Love your videos Jeff keep up the good work!!!

I put out a licking branch for the very first time two weeks ago. Went and got the card from the camera. I'm in the eastern U.P. with low deer numbers. Well, not only deer on the camera, but a bear put his nose to it! He seemed to be going somewhere, but paused and smelled the stick!
I used this on my property and it immediately turned into a deer hot spot in the first year I went from hardly seeing deer to now knowing where they will be.
The best advice and cheapest thing ever if you can't do food or anything find a heavy trail hang a vine let nature do the rest thanks Jeff!!

Jeff, I can also validate this tactic. I added, what the fam like to call licking sticks, throughout our farm and everyone of them consistently get hit year round. I have trail cam pics of both of the mature bucks we harvested this year hitting one in particular. The does and fawns are on them very consistently. Great advice, people should try them. It’s unbelievable how popular they are. Central KS and I used small sections of cottonwood saplings.

These things are insane!! Hung one a month ago- deer, bear, coyotes, skunks, coons, rabbits, squirrels all come in to it, whether they are deer and bear on the hanging branch, or the others to the dirt. Its unbelievable- like social media of nature! Northern Wisconsin.

I just put up two this morning excited to see the results
I have 4 that have been in for 2 years. They get used all year long. Just put 2 new ones in last Sunday, on a travel route. Took 2 hours to get pics of a bachelor group checking it out. No artificial scent needed.
Jeff, After watching one of your previous mock scrape videos I decided to give it a try. Within 4 days a nice buck was using the vine I setup. Pretty cool! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Hey Jeff, watched this video this morning but I had to come back to comment. Went out this evening to broadcast my buckwheat and went ahead and checked a camera that I had on a new mock vine scrape I put up 2 weeks ago just to make sure the camera was working fine. Not even 24 hours after install I had a younger buck on it, and I’ve also had a doe with triplets hitting it as well as a big nontypical whose match set I found back in early March! He looks very similar to your “freak show” buck from last season. And just like you said I get maybe 3-4 different days of pics of the mature bucks hitting these spots in the summer just to let me know they will be back in the fall. October 1 can’t get here soon enough!

Yes it is fun,I thought putting it out this late just 17 days before the season opener it would be detrimental to deer traffic in the area I put it but it's the complete opposite of what I thought.also I'm 62 years old and it just goes to show you're never to old to learn something new.thanks again Jeff!!!
I have found in upstate NY striped maple work great for these scrapes as well. 90% of the buck rubs I find are on striped maples

Yes, it kind of shocked me when I watched one of the latest episodes of Midwest Whitetail using your mock scrape design. At my age ive become doubtful about everything but I have to say this works. I started using it 2 or 3 years ago after watching one of your videos and have gotten 3 times more pictures on my trail cameras. Makes you wonder how many deer are actually there that you dont know about because they traveled around or behind the camera. Your Mock scrape vine will help you get photos of more deer.

I even have a trail cam picture of a coyote standing on his hind legs smelling the vine. Shocked me when I seen that

Jeff, I tried Striped Maple branch. It's what they rub on locally here in Central NY. Its been used often but I found they like the Vine licking branch's I've up better. Great advice, keep it coming.
Thanks Jeff. I set one of these up here in southwest Virginia for the first time a few months ago and set a camera on it and wow! EVERY deer that comes by it smells it and leave there own sent on the vine.

Jeff, I just planted this last Saturday before the rain and hung the vine licking branch and the next morning a small buck was using it already!
I just put 3 vines up near stands. First time trying it, good results. One camera had tons of bucks and does hitting it. Trying to send you a couple of videos to show results. Thx Jeff.
Been using these and whittled down branches for more than 50 years now. They do work for sure. The area I hunt is is very windy so camera placement is important unless you want thousands of pics of a blowing vine, rope or limb without any deer in the picture or video,
We hunt in a very windy area...ridegtop SE MN...but we avoid getting blank pics pretty easily with a few different steps.
1. Using a quality trail cam
2. All vertical branches or vines should be a minimum of 5' long and in wind-exposed areas I recommend 7'+. The good thing is, longer is always more natural and will receive greater attention.
3. The vine or branch should be 3/4" to 1" in diameter...no greater and while less will receive attention if not too small, a smaller branch or stick will be too light and blow around much more.
4. The camera should be at 12 to 15' from the scrape, instead of under 10'.
5. Cut unnecessary branches from alimb you are hanging the scrape under, so the branch itself isn't catching more wind and blowing around.
6. Use a solid tree or tight line between 2 solid trees so the tree itself isn't blowing around.
7. Never use rope, ribbon and other fads that are too light and unnatural to deer in the first place.
Practicing those 7 strategies will reduce and most of the time will completely eliminate false triggers.
Place the first two mock scrape vines in front of both my stands. Have cameras on them. Excited to see if it works here in Florida.

Hey Jeff appreciate all the info!! This is my third season with no luck getting any deer to hit the vine same length no scent ect.. as I’m on a lease I’m restricted to only my couple stands to work with. Thick cypress swamps with white oaks and pines in north Florida. Don’t know if there are to many active scrapes close by already or possibly to close? Tried multiple areas spread out on the right trails but seems like the bucks like there historic same natural scrap spots Andy advice on to get one active I’d appreciate.

Well im in langlade county WI, got some vines from Trempealeau this weekend, gonna put one on an active spit that I saw does and a 6pt, and see if Mr BIG is around and finds it.

Mock scrapes of oak work best in rural piedmont nc where accorns are coming in. Place near and you willl have excellent luck in front of ur stand
I did 2 mock scrapes on my 5 acres. Havent had any deer on my cams touching them. Made them exactly the way in the videos. Not sure if its just lack of bucks in the area or the landscape of my property. Maybe once pre rut starts more movement will get them there to see them? There are does coming through just no luck as of now.
Hey! Could you make a video on how to pick a good healthy tree for stand? This is my first year i plan on hunting from a stand. However, the tree’s look sketchy in my hunting spots. Been looking everywhere but can’t find a single video that goes over if a how to determine if a tree is healthy for a stand or not.
You'll have to determine that out for yourself! It depends, what type of stand you're using, what trees you have, etc! 👍

You said that you may change from the vine to something that’s in your area. I’m in GA and hunt a 200 acre pine thicket. Would you use a vine or something else?
This is our first year putting them up, and they are already using them

I got a question about these mock scrapes. I put several in this spring, and have cameras on them. I had good activity till about three weeks ago. They quite using them. It been really hot. Do you think they will start using them again? Thanks for any advice.
JEFF ..my wife and I own 40 acres with several stands ( 8 ) for different wind directions and morning and evening hunts . I know you say a scrape for every stand , but how many scrapes would you say is acceptable ?
Good morning! I’ve had a 2yr consistent scrape on the edge of my field. Do I leave that be, or cut it down, and make one 40 yards back where an evening stand will be.
From my experience a field edge scrape can be a good tool for buck inventory (they get hammered at night). You can then use that coupled with other vine scrapes to help develop a movement pattern through the property
What are your thoughts about making mock scrapes on public land if you know your exact tree you will be sitting in?
I just did this yesterday, already had 3 deer hitting it within a few hours.
I put it back in some thick stuff, along a trail they had running in parallel with a small creek.
I did this exactly and the deer do not pay any attention to it. They will feed in the plot and walk right by it. Every once in awhile sniffing it. What else can I do to increase my chances? I have tried the Preorbital gland scent on the vine as well. No luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I put out my first mock scrape in the beginning on June. Went back to check on it late lasts week and switch cameras out with a cell camera. After reviewing the photos their were deer hitting it almost everyday and now they seemed to stop using the mock scrape? Any suggestions?
Just by what you said you went and spooked the deer out for a couple weeks they will return!

Yep! Just use the right one for your area!
Yiu sure can...something durable that bucks like to rub in your area. Jack pine is awesome up north (what I first used about 20 years ago), oak, Hemlock, and aspen is great but weaker

Jeff, what kind of branch would you use in northern ky? I am currently using a grape vine and havent had much activity. I have it set about 5-10 off a main trail infront of my camera and my stand. Thanks
Pretty sure he would recommend hanging it directly over the trail vs 5-10ft away.
I believe he said to put them in the travel corridor or trails not off to the side. Maybe this would help your issues as maybe they aren’t seeing it.

Not at all common knowledge...at least in any kind of publication, online or in print. With the exception of my content from years ago.

Just put my scrapes up, used this method, the deer ignore it and walk around it, it’s been 4 days of this activity, any reason why. I’m interested to hear everyone’s thoughts.
Hi Cloud! Flat ground, 5 to 7' hanging vine or branch, directly over the trail, around 3/4" to 1" in diameter and waist to belly high and they should hit it very fast...but eventually all the time 👍😊

Definitely!! In that 3/4" to 1" diameter range and 5 to 8' long depending on the location

Hi Rory! I've had them last several years. I do not change them until they break. The longest I've had one in place is probably around 5 years.
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 it's such a great attractant, I guess I've always put up a new one each year. Most rubs I find are on cedar trees, so I use cedar branches and peel off the bark at the end, hoping that scent will lure too since they seem to like the cedar so much. Wasn't sure about them until the buck I harvested last year went straight to the branch like it was his daily routine. Thanks Jeff. Good luck this year and take care!
