Congestion pricing to incentivize people to take public transportation, but people are getting killed on public transits.

I laughed so hard on this 😂 because it’s so true. Yet all MTA can say is “We have full confidence in NYPD.” Plus we all know money collected from congestion pricing will not be used properly.

Stop. I live in nyc and take transit. The rate of death in nyc transit is no different than it's ever been, and definitely not even close to the days of the 80s and 90s.
Just because the media likes to focus on it doesn't make crime on the subway an actual issue.

Money grab. Nothing will improve except MTA board salaries. West Side Highway and FDR Drive are going to be parking lots and people on them will eventually cave and pay the fee to get off of them and use the avenues. Furthermore traffic all around the zone, particularly in the boroughs will worsen.. which will only be further worsened when the BQE is closed for reconstruction. It’s going to be a nightmare and traffic simply will not be reduced, furthermore they didn’t even include exemption or discount for EVs so how can they claim this is about pollution?? This is such a horribly implemented plan and they’re asking us to pay for it and trust the MTA (of all entities) to work it out and use our money effectively. Just look at how much the first phase of the 2nd Ave subway and East Side Access project cost… $28.1billion. Need I say more? PS: The tolls on the GSP and Turnpike are nothing compared to this $15 flat fee and at least the GSP & Turnpike are properly maintained with that money not to mention the tolls on those roadways go up marginally over time… this guy wouldn’t know up from down. If he’s going to defend this obvious cash grab he better come with more logic than this. The MTA has proven itself for decades to be a black hole where our money goes to burn with 0 accountability.. it’s no wonder that British guy jumped ship after no time at all at the the helm… they hemorrhage money like it’s their job and then blame their criminally bad management on dumb stuff like turnstile hopping. Meanwhile the subway is a laughing stock. STILL. No real New Yorker who’s been here long enough believes the MTA’s complete and utter B. S. It’s the same gimmick every single time and they never ever deliver on their promises. If ever.. it’s decades late and tens of billions of dollars short (or over?).
It’s their job to make sure mass transit is consistent, reliable, and available to all before they expect people to rely on it solely or pay ridiculous fees. I think more class action lawsuits should come the MTA’s way for their inability to do the job they’re tasked with doing. Serious audits are also long overdue.
PS: Notice he said that traffic would decrease on “midtown streets” because he knows that traffic will just get worse everywhere else. Important distinction there.

This tax on the middle class is going to fund their new headquarters, not improve the subway system. AND why are the people pushing congestion pricing asking for exemptions?

@@faywhite7886 Delivery drivers, Taxi drivers, private car services, commuters from the tristate area, excess outer Manhattan parking, inconvenience over crowds on the trains, Our subways have too much crime, surrounding counties will have added expenses, & parking in suburbs that's not fair to them , many that make a living outside of Mass transit. As much as I am for less traffic in the city to be tolled in the middle of Manhattan including the East River Drive & The West Side Highway 🛣️ ? Another Transit traffic jam? Now it's going to get harder for me to be charged more when I hail a cab. We already pay an MTA surcharge in 🚖🚕 Taxi's & livery car services. The Buses are slow even when there's no traffic the subway ? I would prefer an empty train than an overcrowded one. I can't take any trains or Buses no longer during rush hours at all. Off peak is lousy when there's delay on surface transit. Staten Island & New Jersey has my support on this stupid plan putting more money out of peoples pockets.

The easiest way out of the congestion of transport hubs is to create offices and housing for the employees of this office in one skyscraper. So that people do not cross the city horizontally, but move from offices to housing and vice versa - only vertically - by elevators.

I walk to work and cycle in nyc quite a bit. The majority of traffic are cabs (yellow and app-based).
We used to limit the licenses allowed and streets were generally ok. As soon as Uber and Lyft came along, the amount of taxis went through the roof to the point where they are the majority of nyc traffic now.
In other words, reduce taxi traffic and you will eliminate significant congestion in the CBD.

I agree. I have family that live in Manhattan but I also have relatives that live in Connecticut and New Jersey. They drive to leave NYC unless we have an emergency. We ain't rich. Whenever we travel in the city, we all take public transit. These Uber/Lyft keep driving in circles. The city should at least limit the number of for hire vehicles driving in Manhattan
