Purnon must be breathing a huge sigh of relief and saying ‘thank you’.
The canopy over the eastern side of the chateau is absolutely marvelous! It was heartbreaking to see you trying to put buckets and things underneath the leaks in the past. At least you don't have to wait for them to finish the whole roof to begin to get some protection! Wonderful! 🎉😊
I definitely agree, wonderful idea!!!
Thank you for saving this magnificent building ❤ May she bring joy to many generations to come.
thank you very much
Chateau de Purnon is a beautiful building. I admire your vision, hard work, and desire to preserve it for the future.
thank you x
Love this update - it really shows the bad condition the building was in & the remarkable renovation work the artisans are doing 💫
Makes me feel proud to see 2 Aussies saving such a beautiful Chateau , the new roof looks amazing . Great idea about the big canopy over the hole roof it make roofing so much better . # kiwi ..NZ
thank you so much!
His hoodie says Hard Yakka- Aussie for hard work which is appropriate I think
Beautiful and definitively a lot of wow factors! Amazing restoration with French artists! I cannot wait the advancement of work inside! Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦 Irena and Marc
Watching the progress and care brings tears to my eyes. I think she is crying in joy over the love she is being shown. Amazing.
We hope so... the progress in recent months has been breathtaking.
Every time I get an unexpected high bill I just watch an episide from this channel and I instantly feel better.
The work you are having done us just amazing. To be able to restore the chateau to its original form is just wonderful!
It's wonderful that such skilled artisans still exist. Their work is so impressive. The progress you're making is outstanding. Just so inspiring. The new slate tiles are stunning, where do you source these from? Thx for the update.
Thank you very much! The slate comes from Spain
Thanks. That's wonderful that such an excellent roofing slate can still be sourced from the EU. @
Great work saving this castle. I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of the endless stream of invoices. But it is getting beautiful again.
So inspiring to watch! Saving a national treasure of France is a noble endeavor. Merci!
The Chateau Purnon is a strong and solidly built home. It will last for many, many years.
We hope so! Thanks for following our adventure.
At the beginning of the video, a tradesmen on the scaffolding give a sense of JUST HOW BIG the chateau is. Thank you for your hard work and commitment to restoring such an architectural treasure!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a fabulous canopy. The finished side of the chateau looks amazing. What a massive undertaking. You are so lucky to have such great teams working. Thank you so much for sharing.
Many thanks!
I love love LOVE the completed section of the roof. And you can now work on the interiors of the east wing, without fear of water ingress. This is such an informative video, thank you.
I wanted to write and let you know your wonderful book arrived as scheduled a week or so ago. Since then I savour the time I put aside to read and escape into the images. I am deliberately taking my time with it to spread out the experience. Well done on a great book!
thank you so much - we're thrilled you're enjoying it x
I am so grateful for your videos. The details you show in your presentation open our eyes to the complexity of the work that is being done to match the complexity of the body of the chateau. The reawakening of Chateau de Pernon is a modern fairy tale--done with more muscle and grit, perhaps, but done with just as much love. Thank you.
The work these men have done so far is amazing! They have truly done a fabulous job!
We agree!
Fantastique de voir de près le travail des artisans et Compagnons !
A classic beauty is slowly emerging, or re-emerging, just she did when originally being constructed. You and all the craftsmen should feel very proud of yourselves.
Amazing work…thank you for the detailed updates! Look forward to continued progress… such a beautiful chateau!
Thank you very much!
Wonderful to see the progress and re-evaluation of work flow to speed up the process without compromising safety. I work on facility maintenance and am happy to see the protective measures workers take: helmets, harnesses, ear and eye protection.
OMG - what an incredible adventure you both are on! Amazing to see this unfold... thank you so much for sharing this journey! 🍀🍀🍀
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, Tim and Felicity, for your clear explanations of what is happening and why for each step of your journey. And it's so lovely to hear Aussie accents! All the best from SW Western Australia.
Thank you for your message. We're thrilled that you're sharing our journey from across the ocean.
I very much appreciate the information you're providing. It gives so much more context to the work you are doing for us to understand about the extent and causes of the deterioration, the processes to remedy those areas. Then we can truly share in the joy of seeing the restoration work as it progresses section by logical section. Wonderful videos. Thank you!!!
We're thrilled you are deriving so much joy from our adventure. Thank you!
Interesting project. Just picking up on one aspect in particular. I’m a very experienced builder, 50 years plus experience in Construction
This is not a criticism but objective advice, the haunching for the chimney cans, (pots), is totally inadequate, not only that but as insurances they should be mechanically fixed, using stainless steel fxngs. The spalling of the Stone Cornices is in all probability caused by one or two things or a combination of the two, firstly the iron fxngs corroding & expanding due largely to not being sealed sufficiently and the effects of the freeze thaw cycle. We have just finished a small job repairing a sandstone sill which had iron bars fitted into the stone, the lead seals had failed allowing the ingress of water & overtime the freeze cycle had induced a fissure in-line with all the iron bars with the resultant failure, I hope that’s helpful, we are very experienced in Structural remedial work, we have carried out many works and utilise some very interesting technical methods including the use of Masonry Beams, where the existing wall in need of stabilisation is interwoven with a frame/matrix of Stainless steel which effectively is a beam. We are based in both the UK, (at the moment) & Dallas, Texas.
All the very best with your project..
How exciting to see the new developments in the restoration at Purnon! I would love to come and see this some day.
Je úžasné vidět jak mladí lidé s hrdostí vykonávají nádherné povolání pokrývač. Posílám pozdrav na střechu zámku de Purnon pokrývačům a držím vám všem palce.
What a beautiful episode. So awesome to see the progress and the production of the video and narration is so professional, it's like watching a public television special. I was inspired so much, I went to your website to donate money directly and it made me feel great because I can see where the money is going and the progress is really coming along. This won't be the last time I donate because your channel is truly the best château renovation channel ever!!!
this is so incredibly kind - thank you we are very grateful for your support x
I can't imagine the cost of the project you are doing! It certainly is a worthy project and well worth whatever you are putting into it. Thank you again for saving this Grande Dame!
Thank you for following our journey! We've committed our life savings and we hope we can save her so that future generations can enjoy Chateau de Purnon also.
This is very interesting. Thanks for sharing. I have seen a canopy roof done by English Heritage on a very old manor house, also to enable safe removal and reconstruction.
Splendid video, thank you so much for sharing and all your hard work (including the craftsmen on the project)!
It is quite encouraging to realize that the work will go faster thanks to process being streamlined through experience from the completed portion of the roof. This is such an exciting news for the château 🎉! Water proofing and restoration of the facade are really coming along! What a milestone and relief 😮💨 😊. I know you have more work completed by now as I just found your channel but I am watching each episode in order to follow your progress over time. I am really impressed by the quality of your content from a restoration standpoint. I also like when you add interesting historical background based on your findings within the château and when you piece together the lives of previous noble owners. It adds depth to this historical building restoration for us. Votre passion pour l’histoire et pour ce château est évidente! Merci pour votre engagement et la qualité de votre contenu. 🙏🏻💫
Merci pour votre message. We are thrilled that you have found us. Please enjoy the journey of the reawakening of Chateau de Purnon!
I just finished reading your book. It was very informative and a useful guide as I watch your restoration videos. What you’re doing is just remarkable. I hope to visit one day.
Thank you so much. We hope you enjoyed the book x

this has to be at least a 8-10-million-dollar restoration project.
So good to see the progress and expert restoration. That zinc flashing coming off- like a big bandaid!!!All the best, regards from Melbourne ❤
Wow... this is such an absolutely amazing project!!!
You two are so perfect for this massive restoration project... to date, you've done a magnificent job!!! Good on you both...
this is a magnificent project it warms my heart to see the restoration of so many beautiful historic structures
thank you so much x
How wonderful ❤❤❤❤❤
So much good work done
Thank you!
The restored roof look great! And what a fabulous idea to put a cover over the roof that is being worked on. I'm sure it takes bit to get it in place, but once it is there it will save time. I don't know if it is because I live in North America, but seeing these workers do their work is incredible! Stonemasons and using slate tiles is just not something seen here. What a beautiful job they are doing! Also, while the scaffolding is up, what other jobs are getting done to the side & windows?
greatest and best chateau channel ever
thank you so much!
Amazing work luv you both xx from London
Thank you for following our journey!

Wow!
It's just amazing all the work that goes into the restoration. It must be sooooo expensive.
WOW!!!!
Look how far you've come, inspirational.
Just a thought, time to move bedroom perhaps?
I am really impressed by your great effort but I can not imagine how you finance this project. 😅
thank you
Me gustan mucho los videos sobre la restauración del castillo PURNON, pero como está hoy 13/07/2024 el estado de esta maravillosa obra de la arquitectura francesa?
Watching this makes me wonder how they built such a huge castle and outbuildings.
When doing the roof, why isn't tar paper put underneath the new slates for extra protection?
une protection sous les ardoises a été mise, l' architecte des bâtiments historiques connait son métiers, il s' occupe aussi du château de Versailles...
What's the name of the song from the beginning? And a great work with the Chateau
This is an enormous undertaking that requires an army of workers. You really must have a clear vision of the finished project in order to stick with it. Not to mention lots of money. 😂
beautiful music at the beginning. who's it?
I would love to know that as well. Been searching but no luck 🤔❤️
Isn't it so beautiful! I don't think it's publicly available as we use tracks licensed for RUclips x
Thank you so much for answering! I like the way you speak about the chateau - you really love her, that's sure. And I love your dog too.@
It is so exciting to see this beautiful chateau come back to life 😍👏🏽👏🏽 so much progress, thank you for sharing it with us. 👩🏼🫶🏽👍🏼🍁
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wonderful! I wonder how much money is involved.
❤🎉
who knows the title of the intro song of this latest video. please let me know .
Please let me know too!! Been searching but no luck 🤔🤗❤️
Isn't it so beautiful! I don't think it's publicly available as we use tracks licensed for RUclips x
Just subscribed, second video. How can you possibly afford to pay your army or workers?
Surely the historical community is helping to pay for this. The amount is astronomical
They were accepted by the Journey du Patrimone and received a grant to partially cover the costs, but also are covering a large portion of it themselves. They have discussed the process in previous videos and the costs of the renovations as well. It's a massive undertaking. Definitely a labour of love ❤
Well, it is their personal property after all
You should post more restoration on RUclips. Everybody else does it every week Sam do it every day just suggesting.
we post a weekly video on Patreon however as we are producing the content ourselves we post here as frequently as possible with our workload!
@ If you are in contact with any other chateaux channels (especially the 300k + followers) you might want to talk numbers with them...
I am not 100% sure but if your youtube channel had 500k followers (which it totally has the potential to get !) and would post 1 video per week your adsense revenues would be close to 50k US$/mo before tax (in part because of your audience ie. english speaking from tier 1 countries), and if you get 1% of your youtube followers to subscribe to your first level patreon you can add 32.5k€/mo (low estimate here)...around 900k /year total sound feasable...(sounds like a lot and it is but I'm also sure you could make good use of it)
Given the scope of your project I would actually consider creating a full time job (community manager/videographer/editor/...), low wages but bonuses for every milestone (first important at 100k) for motivation and getting things done...
Not sure either of the business structure (I'm guessing multiple entities, a non profit : association loi 1901, a Societe Civile Immobiliere, and a future for profit business) but your accountant might be able to help you minimize the cost of a full time employee to a minimum (you could possibly also have a stagiaire/intern work on this as a project to validate his/her study, therefore paying only a few hundred euros of wage...)
If you had someone to do it you could probably post 2 or even 3 videos a week (each - set - day a theme, ex. Monday an interview/portrait of a worker/job, Wednesday Purnon history, Friday updates and maybe 1 live each month : viewers will want to connect more with time and as your channel grows)
RUclips seems to work in milestones, a lot of time editing and uploading at first but when in the 6 digit & up (followers) you get a business that can be quite profitable, especially if you post regularly and balance well other platforms (patreon, store,..., maybe wedding venue, airbnb or relais chateaux one day, you'd even have the potential for you own multi seasons TV show but that's obviously not everyone's cup of tea)...
My take is you lost confidence in youtube and open the patreon too early...
I know easier said than done, but I do believe your channel has an enormous amount of potential, possibly the most of all chateaux story/project/adventure....
PS. sorry for the bad english....french here.
@@trthib thanks for your message. You will notice that our channel is many years younger than the channels with the audience numbers you mention. We have a wonderful dedicated following and are enjoying sharing the incredible work of our artisans as they bring Purnon back to life. We are delighted that so many have joined us on our journey and we enjoy updating everyone as much as is feasibly possible to us given our work load with this enormous projects. We are not in a position to accommodate volunteers at this point as the interior of the château has minimal safe and comfortable rooms but we do appreciate your comments.
@ No arguing here, I think you're doing is great, just pointing out the potential...virtually limitless
No harnesses in use when working on the roof?
yes they have harnesses on
Will you do any insulation under the roof? Is this allowed for historic properties?
Yes absolutely there is a layer of insulation
I couldn’t tell from the pictures. Are you updating the render before you take down the scaffolding?
How many years do you think this restoration will be?
We think there is another 1 1/2 years just to finish the roof
💙🇦🇺
why did you have to redo the window sills? The stone seem fine and they certainly did not rot.
thanks for the song title. but can you please tell me the name of the singer to?
