What I like about your restoration is your willingness to engage knowledgeable people. A mistake made with other chateau channels is how things are done on the cheap and the outcome sometimes reflects that. Quality over time will give you are very beautiful finish and something that will outlast you both, a fine thing to do indeed.
Yeah, but such a restoration is an enormous money drain and when the funds run out... And that's is often the reality. I knew some people who restored ancient houses (far smaller than this chateau) and costs have a habit of rising at an alarming rate. That is often the reason why these buildings were abandoned.
I agree. It's become the norm on almost all other chateau channels to botch things cheaply. It is very refreshing to watch this personable couple's journey and progress 👏🏻
Chateau de Purnon is historically protected. They have no choice but to do quality work and use quality materials.
Cant even imagine how many years it originally took to design, build, finish & landscape to say nothing of regular cleaning, maintenance & grounds work in the centuries before electricity & modern tools. Incredible you are able to do restoration so very beautifully.
Thanks for your message. They actually built the Chateau and the two enormous outbuildings that flank our central courtyard quite fast. They purchased the land in 1771 and built the chateau between 1779 and 1788. There was then a bit of a lull (following the outbreak of the French Revolution!) and the ornamental gates were added in 1812. By chateau standards that is all quite quick - as you quite rightly point out, they did all this without the modern tools that help us today.

My god those papers are so incredible. I use all F&B paints in my projects, their colours are so en pointe. You should consider putting that broken prayer chair that’s up in the attic next to the bath! It’s got the drama and the movement that mimics the paper❤️

What an amazing inspiration that bathroom and bedroom are. I just love the wallpaper and colours chosen. Trying to go back to finding original colours is difficult, especially when there have been so many changes over the centuries. I have a 110 yr old home in Saskatchewan and it is a big job. With nothing to really guide us. You have chosen an amazing team to guide you. This one bedroom and on-suite are gorgeous. I cannot wait to see more rooms and outside work as you progress bringing this beautiful old girl back to her glory.

My journey to France started with a search for French Delbard Dahlia. I purchased a former carriage station in 2018 in Brittany and return to France next year permanently to start a full restoration. Your bathroom and bedroom is just magical and the Yves Delorme linen exquisite. I managed to get some pieces myself. There is nothing else like it. It's refreshing to see that you are sympathetic to the original chateau original features. I see it too often on RUclips that buildings' original features are ripped out and replaced with modern replacements. What a beautiful and sympathetic restoration!
Thank you for your comment. Heritage preservation and restoration lies at the heart of our project. We deliberately chose a heritage listed property and since our arrival we have extended the heritage zone to cover the entire estate. Although we understand that this will add time and cost to our project, we are eager to respect the craftsmanship and history that has come before us. We are thrilled when others recognise the care and professionalism taken by those who are working with us.

I love what you have done. May I suggest that when filming, you have extra light so that we can see the beautiful details. It is a little dark sometimes. It would have been nice to have a shower, perhaps glass sided, so that you can still see the wallpaper. Some of us who are short or older have difficulty with tubs. I cannot wait to see what else is done to restore the Chateau.
I would keep those velvet curtains. They give the room a rich, deep texture. I love them. You did a beautiful job on your home. Thank you for sharing your work with us!

Beautiful rooms. We live just 30 mins from you. Before we moved here we were pipped to the post in buying a beautiful petit Chateau in the Sarthe. One of it’s amazing features was it had an aeolienne Bolee in the grounds with an incredible series of grottos and man made ponds that led to a an overflow lake. It was in perfect condition. We love living here though.

Please walk us through excactly how the backing for the wallpaper is attached and how the wallpaper is installed on the backing. How you added the trim etc. Would be a fun future video!
Love, love the wallpapers and the paintcolors. The yves Delorme bedding and towels are glorious. Missing a headboard for the bed and yes the curtains are not the right one for the room but you mentioned that yourself. Overall a gorgeous room!
In the sixties in France, my friends family lived in a small chateau in Orleans. It was run down and it still had its 1920's bathroom, which we nicknamed the DRACULA room.

If it took 6 months to completely restore one bedroom and adjoining bathroom, and you have 103 rooms left to go, that would be 51 years, at that rate, and at least twice during those 51 years, the newly restored rooms would have become old and dated and would require secondary and tertiary restorations, hence a never ending project, albeit a massive labor of love. So then, what is the plan to finish the entire building within five years? And what’s the plan for heating, cooling, and supplying electricity ongoing, as the restoration must be a fortune with those awesome craftsmen working daily?! The bedroom came out magnificent, and even though you could opt for a lighter, airy curtain, those look majestic, royal, in there and are a perfect match. I’d keep them as long as they remain in good enough condition. The bathroom was quite the chore, but it’s lovely now. Looking forward to all the progress you will make over this next year.
