Many thanks for everything, Soundmorph. Was really fun, regardless of the dreadful topic. Truly awesome that it's gonna be an annual thing from now on. Great decison. All the best and good luck to the finalists.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We did receive around 10 submissions that incorporated music made from the provided samples, and about three of them were exceptionally good! We're exploring the possibility of collaborating with these talented individuals to combine their music with one of our top winners’ designs for a special showcase. Additionally, we're considering introducing a "Composer" category in our next competition to honor those with music skills, recognizing that not everyone specializes in both sound design and composition. This could be a fantastic way to celebrate more diverse talents within our community. Stay tuned for updates, and thanks again for your feedback!

I am happy to have participated in the competition. Difficult to choose between the 5 finalists. The ideas are all functional and original. Beyond the technical aspect, i think that opinions are very subjective and also vary based on taste. I wish the finalists good luck and hope for a new competition next year.🤞

Is it only on the official website that I can see the beginning of the contest (although I don't see it on the official website, only the voting page), and the number of SoundMorph does not publish the contest information, I only see the end😭

Thank you so much for reaching out with your question. We truly appreciate your interest in the SoundMorph Sound Design Competition and understand that you're looking for more information about the contest's earlier stages. As we navigate through hosting these competitions, we're constantly learning and seeking the best ways to communicate and engage with our community. It's our goal to make our contests as accessible and transparent as possible. For this competition, we realized that our communication could have been more comprehensive, especially regarding the contest's beginning stages and the selection process. We're taking this feedback seriously and are already brainstorming ideas to enhance our approach for future competitions. Regarding the selection process for this current competition: With over 500 submissions, each of the four members of our team at SoundMorph independently reviewed all entries, selecting our personal top 20. We then cross-referenced our picks. Any artist that appeared on more than one list automatically moved forward in the selection process. This method continued until we unanimously agreed on the top 5 finalists. This approach was designed to minimize individual biases and ensure a fairer competition. Even so, there were many entries, including some personal favorites of ours, that didn't make the final cut, but were nonetheless exceptional. If you have any further suggestions, questions, or need more detailed insights into our selection criteria, please don't hesitate to reach out directly to me at: jason@soundmorph.com.
Thank you again for your engagement and support!

Tough competition for sure with some excellent sound design finalists... Well done to the winners. Couldn't help but notice none of the finalists had any creative or extreme panning to compliment the shots. Granted the shots were fast, but could have still highlighted the movements. Maybe I'm just salty because I wasn't a finalist! haha... nah, all good. Again, well done to whoever wins the final vote.

I do Sounddesign as hobby and be specialised on footsteps foleys for a friend of mine that owns a film company… just my notice. My personal favourite is not in yours Top 5 List. It’s Bob Dedes. So typical for such stupid contests. The best ones are not in the Top 5 list and I think this contest is total useless. Sorry no vote for one of those guys…

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and for your passion for sound design. At SoundMorph, we (myself included) deeply value the diverse opinions and expertise within our community, including hobbyists and professionals alike. I understand that art, especially in a field as subjective as sound design, can resonate differently with everyone, and that's what makes it so beautifully unique! I'm genuinely sorry to hear that your favorite, Bob Dedes, didn't make it into our top 5 finalists this year. Each entry was evaluated on a variety of criteria by our panel, and while it's always a challenging process, please know that it was conducted with the utmost respect and consideration for every participant's hard work and creativity.Your feedback is incredibly important to us, and we would love to hear more about what aspects of Bob's work stood out to you. Understanding your perspective better would provide us invaluable insights for future competitions. We're always looking for ways to improve and ensure that our contests are as inclusive and representative of our community's talent as possible. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at jason@soundmorph.com with any suggestions or specific feedback you have. We're here to listen, learn, and grow together. Your input helps shape the future of SoundMorph, and for that I am very grateful. Thank you again for your honesty.

@@jasoncushing33 normal sound is in a room. And special a muzzle flash you see first the flash and than you recognize predelay and delay later. This is tricky to do to point some realism. But at this point all of yours top 5 did a failure they forgot the room and here Bob Dedes was better. He is more decent in the design and here is the next failure… in general he let space for dialogue and in a scene when it comes to gun shots it needs this space for music composing. He gives this space and set the room and weapons more in distance from the point of view. The others just forgot dynamics and room. In any of this examples a composer and orchestrator will have difficulty to score emotions that keep in a cinema the visitors in a heartbeat. Special if you think in Dolby Atmos, when it comes to a master.
By the way the agency that did make the footage and visual effects should be beaten. Useless in marketing for sound as well. They total forgot the main aspect… the room in their visuals. To use this visual for a contest I just have my daubts in the expertise you announce. Bob did create a realistic room as far it was possible.
By the way. Good Sound Design for a film or clip have absolute nothing to do with subjective like… I miss in yours top 5 that they have exactness for the given pictures. That I use as hobby user a 135000.-€ Fairlight EVO from 2017 makes results not better. Pictures you can see if you search my name in Facebook. Reason is I plan to put the Fairlight in a boat at Danube delta the only UNESCO Biosphere in Europe. The majority of my sound Libary are birds from there. I am from Constanta and not far from Ukraine Borderline. We meet April Mai with 10 filmmakers, Sound designers and composers. Just set a comment below a video and I point you some resources.
In fact you will announce yours top 5 and good is… but the footage was poor for a contest. This is a fact. So keep it just as marketing. But I do not keep it as a serious pint for sound designers. I have done for training a muzzle flash video but RUclips censor such. They get what they pay for… for public I upload just experimental and waste for trash.

@@jasoncushing33 here is a link to a muzzle flash scene… I normally keep it not for public… microphones I use Schoeps ORTF, Neumann and Sennheiser. Recorder Zoom F6 and F8. Maybe RUclips censor it. ruclips.net/video/C6D2eZ1XGqA/видео.htmlsi=_fwrjbvZUIrcJ42A

I agree to Danielas arguments and did use hers interpretation and did use the chance to set a comment under one of hers trash videos. She did show me some hidden work arround a Muzzle flash. But I did found as well in hers experimental and testing section public to anyone some example. Great stuff for experimental… search in RUclips “Sound Design test for future use with Davinci Resolve”. Simple but you get goosebumps just by sound in combination with the footage…
For me the same. I do not vote… I do not see fairness in this contest by the Jury. Does any Ranking exists with arguments why the Jury Place someone in this ranking?
