Thanks for such a nice overview of Statamic! I appreciate you taking the time to kick the tires with an open mind and I just wanted to show my appreciation. I'm already updating the Quick Start Guide to make it smoother, it's a tad out of date. 😅
Wow thanks Jack that was really generous of you! I really like what you're doing with Statamic and your Radical Design Course looks great too! Like your approach to UI/UX design A LOT!!
Statamic is a fantastic CMS and lots of fun building sites with it. I only wish I had explored it years ago, but has taken a huge leap in the last couple of years.
OMG I never thought someone would do a video on Statamic. I've been a big fan since the early days 😄👍 Haven't used it in a while but always loved the community behind it and Jack McDade is a legend 👌
HI, another laravel base cms is octobercms. i think it was the first base on laravel. Another, that was mention on comment here, also base on laravel ,it is wintercms,
Hello Dorian! I recommend Payload CMS as a next CMS to do a video on. It's based on Next.js . Version 3.0 is currently in beta but a stable release should be sometime soon.
It's not a point of how much it costs, it's the paywall impediment to widely deploy the pro version. A true WordPress replacement has to be fully free and open source with a MIT license.
i see your point, but at this point i see the cost as a benefit. the price is fair to avoid the same political drama wp has. the free version of statamic is quite generous and works for a personal site. $300 usd filters out the frugal clients who tend to be the most work too… if the core dev team is paid, the product feels safer at this point, for me anyways.
I feel October cms has its own way of doing things so it doesn’t feel like Laravel. It is ok for smaller sites but does want to keep you to certain structures. Can be good for people who are not coding so much. And does not have a large plugin community but some good ones.
I did too...I went to the Statamic Discord and actually got live help from the creator of Statamic. Getting it setup was far more difficult than actually using it once installed for me.
I could be totally wrong, but I believe herd didnt work for you because it wasn't installed in the ~/Herd directory (I also use mac). Of course if you happen to change that then please ignore this comment :D
You can add different directories that you want Herd to work on and I have my Projects dir listed as one of the directories for Herd to listen to there. I really don't know why I have this issue tbh

Will you take a look at GrapeJS? a laravel web builder, could be like wordpress combined with this
grapejs is really nasty..
Would you compare it October CMS?
I feel October cms has its own way of doing things so it doesn’t feel like Laravel. It is ok for smaller sites but does want to keep you to certain structures.

I tried to install this locally and it was nothing but error after error
What were you using as your local server? What errors did you get?
I did too...I went to the Statamic Discord and actually got live help from the creator of Statamic. Getting it setup was far more difficult than actually using it once installed for me.
What did you two do?! Laravel Herd or Valet and one command … It’s that easy. Not even a database.

Revisions not being free is an odd choice
Themes and plugins?
There is themes and plugins but its not the same as WP more developer focused.
thankyou
There very less statamic tutorial video on youtube unlike laravel.
Not php again, build JavaScript alternative for wordpress
JavaScript is not ideal for backend ...
No😂
Then the community would build 30 other alternatives and we will be in the same place again 😅
Payload cms 🎉
Lol, expand your horizons past Javascript. There is so much more out there.
