I work in a nightclub and at a top 40 radio station here at home and what he speaks of your own attitude while DJing is so true, people want you to engage with them as it makes the room much more energized. When it comes to mixing and really depends when i want to warm up the dance floor, usually at the club i play at it doesnt get packed until 1am so from 1130pm i tend to go from a 120bpm housey vibe to a 128bpm in that hour and a half to collectively get the ladies and gents moving and then once ive hit that packed club hour ill slow down into a hip hop to moombahton feel to get the guys and girls bumping and grinding and then raise it back up again.
Nice video. All good points. Another good tip for the mobile DJs is to consider the age of the crowd and try and identify the year ranges when everyone was between 16 and 22. I have read that most people will have memories attached to songs during this age range so if you have a large group of 30 year olds play some music from 14 to 8 years ago and if 40 year olds then consider songs released 24 to 18 years ago. I have a little list of these age groups and target years to help. Also, you can draw this out on a scrap of paper and start playing some songs and see how it goes. You can also draw out a series of genres on paper and play some songs and note down any genres and artists that work and visually see how things are working / not working. Many ways to skin a cat lol. Might help the newbies until they figure it all out.

Good advice about playing most of the track instead of bits & pieces. My opinion is if the whole entire song/track isn't good enough then I dont use it.

I DJ from your average 40th party to an 18th in a village hall so mainly a mixed crowd and I always like to get different tracks that they may have forgotten that you mentioned in previous videos. Would love to learn from you.
It's true! If you're not having a good time, then neither is the crowd. When you watch any of the A list DJs mixing, they always look alive and full of energy and the crowd feeds off that energy. So many DJs look glum (mostly digital... just kidding) and they fade off into the background, just like their mixes.
What do you think about mixing in elements? (Laidback luke does it, as well as Trentino, Eskei83 and a bunch of others, a bit like tone play) Do you think that could work in a mobile gig? or even with dance music genres? Could that be applied to change keys or mixing keys that aren't compatible? Thanks!
Great videos n tutorials always But I don't think there is specific answer for every DJ If we all follow the same rules as a DJ, then we will all sound the same, DJ is about being unique standing out from the next DJ or the last dj before you when you jump on, it's what works for you at the time , if it ain't working then change it up
That's why I will never be big and that's fine because I don't play it if I can't appreciate it. My taste is pretty wide but you have got to have opinions in my opinion. Playing music you hate goes against the reason why I DJ and that is because I enjoy it.
I use the Camelot Wheel from Harmonic-Mixing.com. It gives you both the name of the Key and the number for that key as well. For example, F Major is 7B, and F minor is 7A, and the two Keys work perfectly together. Or you can mix in the Key that is beside the one that is currently playing. For example, 7B (F Major) can be mixed either into 8B (C Major) or 6B (B flat Major). On the other hand, mixing in a Minor Key works the same way: Choose a Key (either A or B) and move one away to the next Key beside it. The pattern is either 'Major-Major-Minor', 7B can be mixed into '8B-6B-7A' or 'Minor-Minor-Major' 7A can be mixed into '8A-6A-7B'. Hopefully this was of help, and not too confusing. Cheers, mate.

Regarding keys, any preferences on software? I have 100's of tracks but none with key info. I'm getting an ear for it...slowly.
