I don’t get why critics hate it. Sure, it’s not as complex as something like Puss in Boots, but it was still a greatly written story. The way they paralleled Princess Peach and Mario as people who will fight to save their home and the ones they love makes them have better chemistry. The call back to the commercial at the end as a way to motivate Mario was genius. And the final fight with Mario and Luigi save the day becoming the heroes they always wanted to be was breath taking.
Practically everything, despite having quick pacing, felt well thought out.

@@nintendofan6499 Yeah, I’ve seen some of those reviews. However, after remembering how much critics loved Cuties you are reminded they aren’t always to be trusted.
I doubt Nintendo is going to make churned-out sequels, it's more their style they jsut have this ONE 'The Mario Movie' be out there on the offer for those who want it. The sequel will probably be something like 'The DK Movie' and feature Yoshi as a convenient brand connection, serving in the same way Kongs did with Mario, as fodder to fill in the background in basically a plotless film.
And you'll probably be wailing and crying about it as it happens, as you come to agree with the critics who have a problem with that exact thing. The flat plot will not SERVE infinite sequels. This is apparent. The opposite end of that would be something like Fellowship of The Ring where upcoming sequels were HARD WRITTEN in the foreshadowing, that's the kind of thing that MAKES a film "deep". Not some melodrama like idiots paint the critics as asking for, the film to be "oscar worthy'".
Not everybody just wants "something to follow up on" because the film actually DISAPPOINTED you, and milk out hype for the sequels to be "ACTUALLY good" like Endgame. Fans of FILM can enjoy a plot culminating in an event like Endgame IN A SINGLE FILM, because a good film can DO that without relying on serialization. Too bad a good film often flies over the heads of self-procalimed "average viewers" the exact same way "average" types want an easy mode for their vdeo games. The question remains, what ARE you good at consuming, when EVERY type of media is just carried by chuckling at seeing the familiar IP?

One of the things I loved about the movie is that it opened the doors for so many opportunities. A sequel could really go so many directions! Here’s my sequel idea!:
I think a good sequel idea would be a friendship story. After the events of the film Mario and Luigi become heroes but Mario gets the spotlight and thinks he can do anything now. Luigi feels neglected and wants to make a name for himself. The bros hear reports of a dinosaur in Brooklyn and they meet Yoshi. Yoshi DOESN’T talk. Yoshi is brought to the Mushroom kingdom, but is clear he needs to go home since he’s untamed. The bros and the Princess agree to send him home. On their journey they’re stalked by a mysterious figure. Mario learns across the journey that he needs help from his friends and can’t do everything alone. Meanwhile Bowser escapes thanks to the koopalings and goes to get revenge. The Mario gang gets Yoshi back home, but it’s bittersweet since they’ve bonded. Toad shows up and reports the Mushroom Kingdom was taken over by Bowser and they head back. Bowser warps them into different kingdoms now conquered by the koopalings and they have to defeat them. Peach discovers more about her past and accepts who she is. Luigi has his moment of spotlight. They outsmart the koopalings by turning them against one another and go to take on Bowser. Bowser Jr is revealed as they mysterious figure and fights the Bros. Peach fights Bowser and the bros help midway. Yoshi shows up with his Yoshi army and helps take back the Mushroom Kingdom. Bowser and his son get launched back to the Dark lands and the day is saved. The bros agree to have Yoshi stay as they prepare to celebrate for the Star Festival. 😉💫

Maybe the enemies from the Mario & Luigi games would be a great add too. Those games had good stories and characters like Cackletta, Fawful and Antasma are awesome villains.

I would love to see a Mario Galaxy Movie as the third installment. It would be funny if when they meet Rosalina, Lumalee would be there, and Luigi would yell “NOT YOU AGAIN”
I’d really like to see the introduction of Wario. He could work really well into the sequel. I’d imagine he’d be a gangster from the real world, possibly being led into the mushroom kingdom.

@@frankchampion3577 Waluigi would be worth including alongside Wario, I just hope we get to see characters like Rosalina, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, King K. Rool & the Kremlings, Bowser Jr. & the Koopalings, also more Mario enemies, Petey Piranha would serve as a nice cameo just like King Bobomb and King Boo. (Koopalings probably wouldn’t get as much as screentime as the others but it would still be pretty neat to see them even if they’re only included in a small capacity).
Paper Mario characters would also be nice to see, especially characters like Dimentio (would serve as a great villain for one of the sequels, maybe best if he was saved for the 3rd movie, some people say he’s the most evil out of all Mario villains, he’d be a great villain for the final story if it’s gonna be a trilogy) also Count Bleck, Tippi & any of the most memorable companion characters from any of the first 3 Paper Mario games. I hope we get to see all of these characters in the upcoming 2 other sequels which their most likely will be.

She is from Brooklyn, because when she came in, she wasn't wearing the pink dress or the crown yet. I actually think she's from Brooklyn but has no memory of it.

Perhaps the sequel will explore Peach's mysterious past. She wants to learn about her past, so she asks Mario/Luigi to help her. She vaguely recalls travelling in the pipe with someone else (Daisy), but they were separated like Mario/Luigi; they have not seen each other since. Peach only knows that the other pipe appeared to be "sandy", so they assume that it leads to the desert kingdom (Sarasaland) and they go explore there, find Daisy, and learn more about Peach's origins, as well as Daisy. (All I know is, Daisy MUST appear in the sequel!)
That would be a good story plot.
Maybe it could also be a Super Mario Land themed sequel with her and Wario (the latter could be a villain)

Yoshi will be part of this series and, i don't think Donkey Kong will be this movie because i hear most people said Donkey Kong will probably get his own Spin-off movie.

The sequel is already looking great! We’re gonna get Yoshi, hopefully they can add in more Mario enemies such as Boos, Lakitus, Buzzy Beetles, Spike Tops, Wigglers, Pokeys, Thwomps, Podoboos, Scuttlebugs, Whomps, Amps, Broozers, Fishing Boos, Swoopers, Urchins, Venus Fire Traps, and more. It’d be awesome to see a whole bunch of Mario’s familiar foes make their debut on the big screen! 🤩😁🤩😁

I do feel like a direct sequel revolving around the Koopalings plotting to rescue Bowser from imprisonment is a pretty valid expectation. Although, the next movie being kicked off by Bowser realizing he can take a hit to lose the mini mushroom, or a guard accidentally letting him get hit to lose it so that he escapes right away, maybe or maybe not kidnapping Peach this time before going out on the run, is pretty likely too. I feel like major galaxy hopping is probably not in the immediate future, maybe not until a third movie.
I've heard someone suggesting Wario and Waluigi, after failing to be Spike's crappy "Super Mario Bros." ripoff, end up in the Mushroom Kingdom. Because the gang is at Yoshi's Island they loot the castle and accidentally lets Bowser out of his prison.
The difference between most movies and Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. Movie is that it properly built up ONE story before even thinking about any future spinoffs or even sequels and it took its time with the one Mario Movie about saving Luigi from Bowser in a game-accurate movie. THAT'S why we got excited during the Yoshi reveal because Nintendo knows quality over quantity, and they are rather good at it sometimes (key word sometimes). I can't wait for whatever comes next

I think Nintendo hit the nail on the coffin with their timing on the release of this movie. Because the big nostalgia wave of media I think is coming sort of to its climax or end and having this beloved character and franchise introduced him to film finally is a good way to cement the end of the nostalgia area well also having an existing IP they can continue adapting to make new original ideas with

I feel like the sequel is sunshine because in the movie, isle Delfino is on the map with different worlds. Yoshi was in sunshine too and it could introduce Bowser Jr, Pianta’s and Noki’s.

Maybe you should talk about the idea of possibly of them doing a Punch Out movie that ties into the Mario Brother's movie universe, Also the nest movie could just be a Yoshi's island movie I know Baby Bowser tend to the be villain in that series but was could introduce Bower Junior? Yes, the Super mario World theme for Mario Movie 2 can actually work out because since Mario and Luigi can to go to Brooklyn and the Mushroom Kingdom if there is a new adventure where Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi can work together to defeat Bowser and the koopalings (including Bowser Jr)

I don't think they should just have Wario and Waluigi there. Maybe they can do this idea I've heard where Wario and Waluigi would try to replace Mario Bros. Plumbing and stumbling upon Yoshi, trying to catch him and chasing him into the Mushroom kingdom where they get into shenanigans and somehow end up accidentally releasing Bowser.
What about the mario bros manga? I mean it has mario, luigi, and yoshi trying to save the princess and other yoshi's too.

I would love to see Dixie and diddy kong having a bigger rol in the next movie. Donkey, dixie and diddy have a big fan base from the donkey kong country games. Those iconic characters would compliment the next movie. Imagine donkey, dixie and diddy kong fighting an army against koopa and wario.

I want a movie involving a big adventure inspired by Mario World and shockingly, Mario Land. Think about it, Wario and Daisy came from those games so having a story where there are 6 golden coins that together grant a wish but Mario and friends along with Daisy and Yoshi have to collect them through different kingdoms before Wario and Waluigi do. This is just a though however I do really wanna see the Koopalings

There was one Galaxy reference I noticed in the movie. At the start, where they were with the dog in the bathroom, there's a shot of the owners and the book the man is reading is called "Galaxy" which I thought was really cool.
My own idea for Mario Bros 2.
Dinosaur Land Arc with Mama Luigi storyline with Wart becomes the villain in this story.
Trailer/Credits will end with King K. Rool planning his invasion on DK Island.
I hope the next Super Mario Bros. movie will feature Daisy, Wario, and Bowser Jr. along with Yoshi.

I think that they should go the Galaxy route. They could visit iconic places from the game and introduce a few characters like Dasey, Rosalina,Yoshi,Captain toad and toadette,kopalings and Bowser Jr
The plot will go Mario will find Yoshi somewhere and then Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser,Bowser Jr and the kopalings and then Luigi,Toad and Toadette can go find the warrior princess, Princess Daisy while Mario,Yoshi and DK go after Peach with help from Lumalee and then they meet Rosalina and then Luigi,Dasey,Toad and Toadette arrive at Rosalina's ship and then Mario,Luigi,Yoshi,Toad,Toadette,DK,
Rosalina and Dasey go after the kopa family to save Peach.
Save Galaxy for 3, but for 2, Have Mario and Luigi together for the journey to make up for seperating them last time, if the Koopalings show up, use their personalities ( and hopefully names) from the DiC cartoons

I'm hoping with the Donkey Kong Spinoff were hearing about, that we'll eventually get a Luigi's mansion movie too. I think they'd do good with a spookier story but still be playful like Luigi's mansion 2. Illumination is really good at doing a lot of background characters at once, they could do some funny stuff with the ghosts.

Haven’t seen the movie yet. But. Would be great if the 2nd film used elements from SMW, Yoshi’s Island and SMB64. (Focus on M,L, Yoshi) Then maybe a Super Peach storyline, while Mario is saving Daisy in SML1 and Luigi’s Haunted Mansion takes place. Would open the 3rd film up for that Mario vs Wario fight after he steals Mario’s castle (SML2) or Peach’s castle…while they were away. Then a 4th movie could jump into Galaxy territory. 🤷🏻♂️ My 2cents for free lol
i think the mario movie 2 should focus on where peach came from cause they teased us with a potencial story about it in the first movie maybe she could be rosilina's daughter and the movie could bisacly be a mario glaxy movie,also we need a romantic story between mario and peach and they could redeem bowser cause despite being evil all he wants is to be loved by peach he could very much team up with mario and we could get a love tringle between mario bowser and peach and we could get an arc for luigi with him trying to concure his fears

Well, at the end of the movie they feed bowser a mini mushroom, it would only make sense for him to grow back to normal size at the beginning of the sequel and be back to his troublesome ways.

Aight check this out. Yoshi's egg is in space. So, the Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 might be based off of the Super Mario Galaxy games. Am I right or am I wrong?

I think it would be cool to have Rosalina and/or Daisy in the sequel. It's funny right after I watched the movie I said I wanted a mario galaxy movie. Hopefully they make that. I hope they don't make a movie with yoshi being the main focus. As much as I love yoshi I feel like he isn't as interesting as some other characters that could be introduced. Though I would be thrilled if there was a luigis mansion movie. Also that would be a great way to introduce daisy in some way. I sure hope the sequel will be good!
Nin10doland, I think that Mario and Luigi are going to have to chase down this Yoshi dino after it hatches out of its egg right into Brooklyn New York the big apple, well before Yoshi eats the apple first with its long stretchy tongue in mario movie sequel.
