This is a great video and for me quite a coincidence. I bought my grandson a Squire Strat for his 16th birthday 14 years ago. (He is now an officer in the RCMP and just marked his 30th birthday.) I pulled out the Squire just this morning to try it for the first time in about a year. I could not believe how playable it is. The string action is almost perfect, and the neck is nice and straight.. It's a great little guitar. However, the fret ends are a little sharp, though not too bad. I plan to dress them they way you did. The coincidence is that just after I played it, I came across your site and this video by accident. Thanks for the tips. (Subscribed.)
I picked the exact one up just for a travel guitar. Pretty good player after i set it up. May i mention the Ibanez Mikro as a another great option for younger players.
Hope you and yours have a great Christmas season, Ken. I've got one of those mini strats in black and white, but have never been able to get the intonation just right. Maybe your vid will inspire me to try again. Fun little guitar.
came across your channel the other day and subscribe strait away I have just bought the exact same guitar for my grandson I do look after my own guitars and quite competent but with it been a much smaller guitar I was worried about the set up because it as a hight action same thing intonation etcetera but have watch this I was able to set it up spot on and your so right about young kids giving up I got this actually of a some one who bought it and his son gave up for that reason thanks again looking forward to watching your videos past and present regards Steve a new fan
My Granddaughter has a pink one. She is so cute with it. I would love to set hers up better but she is in Florida. I might bring my tools next trip down.
Nice video. I'm thinking about one of these for my 9 year old daughter, she loves to play my Fender Tele, nut her hands are too small for a full size neck. Cheers mate.
Awesome. I just got a pink one of these for my daughter (used) for 40$. It plays pretty badly right now, so I appreciate the video showing how to do a proper set up! Looks pretty painless!
Most of these cheap guitars, especially the mini ones, come with a nut with slots that aren’t cut low enough so the bottom two frets play way out of tune no matter what. Once I filed the nut slots down on my Ibanez Mikro the intonation is pretty decent.
Cool video thanks, so if I pick this one up for my kid how do I actually go about properly making all of the adjustments you made? I've never done any of these so not sure how, I guess I can look up other videos to see the technique for filing the frets, lowering the action, etc.?
How was the string hight at the Nut? On the old guitar I started on.it wasn't high to speak of but was still hard on the fingers as I recall . a lot harder to push than on my old martin which until late recently.wich was very high.
Nice video I just got the exact same one used Saturday for my daughter she is 7. I think I’m more excited than her. I haven’t put it down since lmao.. hers doesn’t have access panel in the back. Did your daughter love it?
Is this tuned standard or at a higher pitch? I've seen demos where medium gauge have been fitted (11's mostly) and the sound is excellent with better tuning because of greater tension. Excellent and objective overview of this guitar. Might have been handy for some to have comments about when you adjusted the saddles for improved intonation. Apart from that quibble - excellent. - thanks.
Bought my son one of those when he was three.. Now he's 26 & a rocker.. he also had the epi pee wee, the squier was a better guitar IIRC.. Rock ON Ken.. Merry Christmas .. No Joy Here.. Kidney Stone Surgery Instead.. Piss hamburger & blood..
That's a really cool little strat! I dig it! 🙂 Great video too mate.
Cute little guitar. She'll be happy. Cool that your set it up that makes a huge difference.
My son had one of those when he was little & we gave it away... huge mistake - wish I would’ve hung onto it!
Another great job by a master!!!

Good job. She will love it.
no doubt someone will be very happy! Merry Christmas brother to you and your family!
Got that for my 6 year old girl back in 2003 when I got my American deluxe.

I recently went over one exactly like that one for a friends little girls birthday and the bridge was loose.
Nice back ground music. 👌
Surprised you didn't tape off the pickups to prevent the magnets from collecting fret filing dust...

Nice little guitar and with tightening all the hardware and a proper setup she should be very happy.
4:30 what kind of file is it? your set up looks awesome
Seconding Richard... The Ibanez Mikro is a phenominal value.
Would you upgrade pickups?
There is also a kid sized Ibanez mikro out there.
I actually like the style of the Ibanez better but lots of bad reviews that it goes out of tune really fast

Are you tuning this guitar like a normal one?
On E A D G B E?
I want one for myself lol
You mite try coated strings too Ken they seem much easier on the fingers too. And I'm wondering about string guage.

Does anyone know if this mini Strat model fits regular-size Stratocaster pickups?

I replaced the 9s with half-flat wound 10s. Easier on the fingers.

Your shirt and that guitar are almost the same color. 👍✌🎸

alan sturgess , yeah I tuned it to A440

He looks like kevin james
Is the neck width the same on those as a regular strat?
Dude McMann , It’s short scale feels approximately the same
What did you end up tuning this to?
A440
Many people suggest using a heavier gauge string than what is on there from the factory. Like tens or 11’s. Do you agree with this?
Dave Gomes for a child, I would use extra light strings like 9’s or even 8’s if you can find them. Jmo
jackson minions are also great
Sebastien Dumond-Ruffel I’ve heard good things about them also
Do you know if the stock nut is flat? Or, notched in the center on the bottom?
