In this episode, I examine a 2016 Squier Mini Strat. I've always wanted to check out one of these pint-sized Stratocasters to see what's inside. I'll do a setup on this one and examine the differences. This is a one-episode project.
    Some Parts:
    D’Addario Winder: amzn.to/3N9IS9U
    Dunlop Capo: amzn.to/3qpqcKk
    String Action Gauge: amzn.to/43EH4v1
    Feeler Gauge Set: amzn.to/3qhxgJi
    3-in-1 Oil: amzn.to/47fbpmr

Thanks for this (esp about the pickguard screws), I have 6 of the Mini Strats with various mods (from pickups & pots to locking tuners), a Mikro, a Mitchell w/p-90s, an Epiphone LP power player, Taylor Baby and always on the lookout for more. A medical condition messed up my hands & I had to switch to lower string tension/smaller scale.
I do use 9s (Super Slinky) because using heavier strings defeats the purpose of the switch, I just have to spend a lot of time with the setup & play with a very light touch (I don't really have a choice with the last part).
Thanks for the breakdown, I learned things.

I used to use lighter strings on short scales. As long as the neck has enough relief, the other setup issues can be overcome. Thank for watching!

Something alluring about these mini guitars.

Looked at a couple of Fender Strats today, they had two piece body's.

Nice. Sometimes you can see the seams under the finish.

Is it possible to put a mini strat neck and put it onto a regular size strat body? Thank you

    • @hacksguitarhobby

Anything is possible, but it's definitely not practical. The distance from the end of the neck to the bridge is different on each one, and I haven't measured the neck pocket dimensions, but I bet those are also different. You would end up having to patch up and modify the regular Strat body to the point that it would not be worthwhile.

What does "mini" mean? Im fairly new to the guitar world so im not 100% sure.

    • @hacksguitarhobby
      @hacksguitarhobby  Год назад +2

It means short scale. The nut to bridge distance is shorter than a regular Strat.

In other words it means that there are only about 20 frets rather than the regular size being 23 to 25 frets and one thing I noticed on this guitar is that the first fret is rather small

So,nice kinda have a thing for the mini. I have the world's only string through. It's custom with a gold copper pickguard I did. I put tru oil finish on the gaurd too. It's on my page I think. 😊

I was looking at it and thought it would be pretty simple to do a string through.

@@hacksguitarhobby , it is but there's factors to add in if you have not yet. I used cheap ferrules. The saddles must stay and so must the bridge. Neck angle needs to be added to get the saddles to sit flush with the body otherwise it would have been way off.. The new break angle is awesome! And fixes any dead sounds as you go up the neck. The saddles compliment the new hight. Once the action was low enough I put 10.5 on and tuned to open e.
