I'm in my 80s.......saw this about 50 years ago; the concept was remarkable without special effects, to bad they don't make em like they use to with great story lines. I miss these old sci-fi's and the acting was much better in the 40s, 50s and 60s.
Orson Welles said there is no performance in colour equal to the performances in black-and-white. He once talked about James Cagney, saying nobody was really like that, his acting was larger than life, but he came across as real and believable.
Watched here in Pennsylvania USA 🇺🇸 This December 31st 2024 ❤ Happy New Year's. This is such a great classic movie. ❤ My wif & i watch classic SciFi and Horror movies every New Years eve.❤ thank you. We have pizza & snacks.
Wait a minute. No divorce papers being served, No unwanted pregnancies from the daughter, No thug boyfriends, no punk kid brother, no cell phones? What kind of movie is this?
I must have been about 7 years old when my father took me to see this in the cinema! (was that even legal?). When he parked the car on our return home I remember looking up at the cold starry sky and feeling really creeped-out! Blankets were over my head in bed that night!
You're lacking in, *_Era-set imagination_* When your mommy told you, _"When I was 6 years-old, this movie scared my knickers off!"_ You better fakkkin believe her!!!!! If you cannot (for whatever reason) put yourself there, in a 1963 frame of mind, ya done lost it kid.
I remember seeing a couple of them in new houses in the 1960’s. I believe they were GE’s. They really weren’t built in; a space was left in the cabinetry by the sink.
this was probably filmed in 1961 and released in 1962. Looks like it was mainly filmed on locstion in Beverly Hills at Greystone Manson. It looks pretty much the same today as it did back in the early 1960’s. I’ve walked through those gardens many times and they are just as beautiful as ever.
Hey, this was pretty good. Did he say, ‘Energy can be either created or destroyed’? If so, that ain’t right. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.
I wonder what they would have thought when this movie was made back in 1962, of our current Mars rovers: Sojourner, Spirit and Opportunity, Curiosity, and Perseverance. Sure---people today might laugh at the f/x in this film. But it was amazingly prophetic. I grew up in the 1960's, and was a real sci-fi geek. SF movies back then were daring, optimistic about our future in space. They may have had only 1/10th the budget and not nearly the technical tools like today's splashy f/x extravaganzas. But they had 10x the content!
This is an interesting 1963 Sci Fi movie and how possibly aliens could take over families one by one and never know it. It was a very good throughout the entire movie with a great ending which I won't mention if you haven't watched it yet. This is one movie I did not see when it first came out in the Theaters. I would of been in 8th or 9th grade at that time.
I actually think this is better than the original Invaders from Mars. Of course what that film had was a lot of impressive special effects and music.. But I like this story better.
That got a little more spooky than I was expecting. I got a kind of "twilight zone" vibe from it, which was nice. Goes to show there's no need for flashy effects and dodgy costumes (as much as I love them) when you can let your audience's imagination do the work.
It is Greystone Mansion in Bevery Hills. If you ever visit LA, CA, just GPS Greystone Mansion & Gardens: The Doheny Estate. It’s usually open to the public 10am - 5:30pm. They have use Greystone in about 157 movies, like the Muppet Movie, Spiderman, There Will Be Blood, X-Men, The Bodyguard, The Big Lebowski just to name a few.
Love the oldies, too many today seems to be lost in the blood and gore of sci-fi movies, this one gives food for thought, if intelligent species, they could take us over without much ado because humanity is always locked into a battle, but what if unseen creatures are around, they could compromise us and our understanding of them like this one with pure energy….makes one wonder…taken over by vanity…🤣👍❤️🙏🏼
The concept is brilliant with no rubbery looking aliens, but the acting was wooden and the set pieces were too long in the making. Lead reminded me of Vincent Price, just not as talented
Does anyone know whose estate this was filmed at? I recall from the Will Smith fiasco that reporters outside his home filmed an estate that looked a lot like this from the outside, especially the gate setup. Best wishes to all and Happy New Year from Minnesota.
What? Again? The Martians are usually peaceable enough. Why, my uncle is very happily married to 2 of them. I wonder what could have set them off? Maybe they don't like the fact that 10 years before this film, they invaded Earth in COLOR. 10 YEARS! I'd be hacked off too!
I feel like a Supreme Court justice filing the only dissent. I began watching this so-called "sci-fi movie" and wound up fast-forwarding again and again and again, searching for something, anything, that might be interesting or entertaining, and found absolutely nothing. I grew up in the 50s and 60s and saw a ton of sci-fi movies, but this hands down wins the "most boring sci-fi movie ever made" title, even more boring than "Them." Not even Joel and the bots could've saved this one. Five thumbs down.

Same sentiments❤

Happy New Year 😊🎉
I'm watching from the Netherlands.
With my two cats 😂
Watching here at 9:30 OKlahoma
Finished watching in BC Canada and said Whaaaat? A revolutionary film for its time with no happy ending. 😮
Columbia Lancaster county PA here
Happy New Year!!
I expected something cheesey, but it surprised me! No special effects to speak of, yet it presented the concept very well! Bravo!
Marie Windsor- always a sign of good things to come. Also, anyone else feel like a Martian invasion would be just fine right about now?
it was my Christmas wish.
That would depend on their intentions.
when aliens fly by earth, they just roll up their windows an floorboard it lol
Let's jus' hope that WHEN they get here, they don't find us tasty.
@@chlfje "To Serve Man"... what else?
Wait a minute. No divorce papers being served, No unwanted pregnancies from the daughter, No thug boyfriends, no punk kid brother, no cell phones? What kind of movie is this?
The kind they don't make anymore.😎
Machine guns, fiery explosions, impossible chase scenes????
On Mars everyone looks like Floyd the Barber from Andy Griffith.
My spouse and I viewed this film in 1963 during our early courtship. Thank you for the cherished memories.
That little rover at the beginning looked like a pawn from the game "Sorry!".
Yes!!! When I saw it I thought the same thing!!
I must have been about 7 years old when my father took me to see this in the cinema! (was that even legal?). When he parked the car on our return home I remember looking up at the cold starry sky and feeling really creeped-out! Blankets were over my head in bed that night!
Oops, lithium battery in that mars robot.....
One of my all time favorite black and white sci fi movies. Love the time period and music. It's relaxing to watch too.
From Earth launch to the time that the probe stopped responding from Mars took 6 minutes! Wow!
The rover the probe deployed travelled more than 300 yards in 6 minutes. That was how long it lasted on the surface and was transmitting.
That pool was amazing! Talk about a deep end!
I liked the film as it was more accurate about how we'd do things since we're doing exactly that now!
body doubles, and clones!
This was surprisingly good. Part horror, part thriller, in a science fiction wrapper. A well structured script with a great ending, too.
With that creepy mansion part Goth thriller.
I love old time weirdo movies like this with crazy themes.
Thanks for upload. Reminds me of the Invaders tv program.
thank you, great movie, much better then expected!
From Australia, Happy New Year, watched the same as Pennsylvania.
Movie kind of bites, but neat to see that mansion. Bowling alley was used in there will be blood, plus a lot of other movies filmed there 🤠

When i was young I had a job delivering appliances...the portable dishwashers..you could roll them around..Were. top loaders...
Marie Windsor was great in westerns, noir, dramas, comedy and sci-fi.
Hey, this was pretty good. Did he say, ‘Energy can be either created or destroyed’? If so, that ain’t right. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.

When I saw this movie in 1963 I was 11 years old. It scared me so completely that I was unable to recall the last seen.
That's a dishwasher? wow, shouldn't you take the clothes out first? lol! I was two years old when this came out.
Miss Moore was EMPLOYEE of the month!!!!!!!

A sci-fi movie for people who like architecture.
I want that station wagon. It looks better than a Chevy Nomad.
Old but good
21:48 That is indeed the Piano Concerto in B flat Major by Schubert.
I’m a major fan of early b&w movies and enjoyed this one but recommend watching at a playback speed of 1.5x
The concept is brilliant with no rubbery looking aliens, but the acting was wooden and the set pieces were too long in the making. Lead reminded me of Vincent Price, just not as talented
Yes, there IS a resemblance to Mr. Vincent Price.
From Carmel CA happy new year.
I will always watch Marie Windsor.
A sci fiy movie great
That’s some house and gardens.
William Mims is the spitting image of Stephen Root (Jimmy James) of News Radio
I don't know him. But Kent Taylor (Dr Fielding) looks like a cross between Boris Karloff and Jack Palance.
"Slim Witman's Christmas" and "The Patty Duke Show" all rolled into one.
This goes from 1960s glossy to hard and dark pretty fast.
For some reason, I'm craving for a cigarette right now 😆😆😆
“Sore” and “swell”, yep, an old B&W family movie. Watching in 2025.
When does Mars attack? Been watching 20 mins!
It's more of an infiltration. You know like illegal immigrants.
Strange film
Does anyone know whose estate this was filmed at? I recall from the Will Smith fiasco that reporters outside his home filmed an estate that looked a lot like this from the outside, especially the gate setup. Best wishes to all and Happy New Year from Minnesota.
Graystone Mansion, Beverly Hills--now a city owned park with tours.
@@SailorAllan Thanks so much!!!
The 1st thing they did at the start of the movie was to light up cigarettes. My how times have changed.
Call me when Mars invades. Thanks
In the end, it was not the aliens who destroyed the Earth, but the Earthlings themselves.
There's life on Mars all right, M&Ms don't poop themselves out.
People have strange feelings and that is real life sci-fi
At 50:17 why is he walking towards the phone to answer it before it rang? LOL
He was expecting a phone call.🤔😊👍
That station wagon..you can tell by the fins ..it was undefinable....big bet going on here....I said a valiant...who knows.....
Hard to tell. Could be a Valiant. Maybe a Rambler?
Could be something like a Chrysler too… I know I’ve had one…lol
1962 Plymouth Savoy, I think. My mother had one…push button transmission. 😂
Edit: The Yellow Cab is also a Plymouth, 1960, I think.
It is a 1962 Plymouth Fury. Valiant was a compact. Fury was full size
Dodge Coronet wagon? Maybe
Not a bad film - but advertisements breaking it up ever 6 minutes? Catch a grip, RUclips!
I wish this was science fiction, but I'm afraid The Invasion of the Body Snatchers and this quasi ripoff are not far off.
body snatchers alright, without the giant pods! Creepy nonetheless
Talking sci-fi. No make up, no costumes or special set work. Minimal special effects. A classic snooze fest.
What, no goofy looking aliens? ☹
I kept waiting for Alien to come ripping out of his chest but all I got was a bunch of marital bickering and violins. 🤕😵💫🥴👽👽👽👽🙀
Dave is a Martian. Theys all Martians.
They all start seeing people that are not there.
They don’t make unbelievable families like that any more. Basic concept of course . The Martians won 😊
Looks like it was shot in old Beverly Hills with the then ever present Smog!
Isn't this the same plot to "Us?"🤔😊👍
Ending kind of left you hanging

Thirty minutes into this movie and the scariest thing I've seen is a burning vacuum cleaner.
