Yoga for Photographers & Cinematographers - Five Parks Yoga

  • This yoga class focuses on low back and hips, as well as the upper back, neck and shoulders.
    If you are a photographer, videographer or cinematographer , the aches and pains associated with holding, hauling and using heavy camera equipment is universal and these stretches and movements will help you release tension, tightness and tenderness in the body.
    Warm up the body with deep breathing, side bends and twists, wrist, hand and finger stretches and an introduction to eagle arm variations, which will be used throughout class.
    Stretch the spine and shoulder with cat/cows, thread the needle, neck releases, chest expansion and downward dog full body stretch. Deep hip stretches include wide legged low lunge, lounging lizard, deep squat (Malasana) and more.
    Strengthen and stretch the chest and upper back with cobra (and variations), locust and variations. Standing poses include crescent lunge with eagle arms, warrior two, side angle, five pointed star, prayer squat with variations and twists. Further stretch the legs and hips with side lunges, (skandasana). Balance in eagle arm airplane and half moon pose, before stretching on the floor in heron pose, half lord of the fishes, supported back bends and half pigeon. Some core strengthening is sprinkled throughout.
    This class will benefit ANYONE and EVERYONE who wants to strengthen and stretch the upper and lower parts of the body.

    That was SO delicious! Thank you! I love how creative you are with addressing a particular occupation (or sport) and dialing in the healing poses. I'm not a photographer, but I definitely benefitted from this practice today.

    Hi Erin, I'm not a photographer but my stiff back really appreciated this class ! I just found that the transitions from reverse triangle to triangle were too quick for my rythm of breath, so I did them a bit slower. But this class felt soo good🙏🙏
    If you could do a "yoga for teachers" , it would be awesome : we're on our feet all day long, walk, stop on a table, bend over to check what students write, and of course we write a lot on the white board. So : lower back, upper back, neck, knees (sometimes we have to write at the bottom of the white board), and PATIENCE are the 'areas' to target😉

    Thanks Erin for yet another amazing routine. Have loved your yoga routines in forever!!!!!! ❤. Quick Q - I was surprised to note that you didn’t include the “bridge with hands clasped underneath” and “reverse namaste - in the back”. Aren’t those considered good for stretching muscles in the shoulder area as well? I was trying to figure your thought process, thats all. Thanks again, namaste 🙏

    This is the first Yoga I've done since giving birth. It was exactly what I needed to aleviate a tight back from holding a baby and tight hips from giving birth then being stagnant. Thank you for this, you always deliver (no pun intended) ! That being said, do you have any post partum videos? A little pelvic floor+light abs+free flow+back release action, maybe?
