So I grew up in a family that was a bit toxic. My parents had a lot of issues in their relationship that was projected onto me, I felt like my mum's therapist for years. I have felt very alone in life as I always kind of felt like I didn’t have a real safe space. I just called my grandparents today and for the first time it hit me that my parents are good for me in a logistical way, they help me with things in life, but they're not good for me emotionally. Most of my trauma today started with them. It was so lovely how my grandparents understood me, the way they were listening with no judgement, asking questions and listening empathetically. I luve abroad from my family and I'll be travelling to my parents home for Christmas and it only hit me a few hours after listening to this reading that your line about walking a thousand miles refers to them. It hurts so much to have this realisation because I spent years trying to fix them so I could have a safe space and have a normal, healthy relationship with them. At some point, you need to let go of that idea and accept people for who they can be.
My challenge was cleared on the 11th of December. Took caution, courage, bravery and resilience. Drug addicts broke into my home, hacksawed the water reticulation and faucets off for scrapyard selling. Plumbers tried to fob polycop pipes in lieu of copper piping and inferior faucets. Had to stand firm for authentic replacement of pillaged items. Now to beef up security...😅
