I went to a vocational school because it was an option. No one made me go. They sent some recruiters to my High School, let me have a field trip to their campus, and within two weeks I signed up to enroll. Best choice I ever made. My grades went up and it's not because the academics were different. While the vocational school still had academics, I none the less could still choose my regular high school academics. It was just better. My parents noticed a huge difference in my attitude at home. I was making friends for the first time! It's also the reason why I'm pro school choice. I have a friend who has an autistic son. Our state has so many choices for people who have children with special needs. That's why this whole "Oh, if you do school choice, special needs kids will be left behind." First off, there's a difference between accepting and actually educating. Just because public schools choose to accept special needs children, doesn't mean they're doing the best for them. Many charter schools would reject them, because they don't want to give the false indication that they can help a student learn that they have no resources to help. But here's the beautiful part: As more charter schools become available, the supply goes up, but not necessarily the demand. So schools will start to find niches. A market that their competitors aren't tapping into... Like, I dunno, special needs students! If my competitors are trying to only recruit the best and brightest, good for them. If I were to open a charter school, I would make it vocational. I would try and snag those students who are more into fixing cars, tractors, and construction then they are into math and give them a good education to learn a trade. But also make them good thinkers with traditional academics, so when government tries and shuts down what they have accomplished for themselves, they can fight back. There's nothing wrong with a farmer who can read and do math.
I'd like to see a private company take over an entire urban district and see what kind of results it gets across the board. Right now they open just one school where they can cherry pick the best kids.
Dale G., The politicians are too scared of what good might occur. They'll never let it happen. Imagine if just one large state followed a libertarian limited government. In short order it would be the most wealthy state in the union. The politicians would never allow it.
In a true libertarian state, there would be no requirement to send your kids to school, so many poor and under-performing kids wouldn't go, problem solved.
Not a fallacy. He didn't say every city, he said "many of the greatest cities in the world" - it's not a fallacy when you throw in some good tentative words like that :-P
"Charter schools are better because teachers are at constant risk of being fired" yeah that sounds like a great solution to the national teacher shortage.
Loved it. Bunch of trailers full of kids ready to learn and teachers ready to teach. It's all you need really.

The kids don't really have a choice. If the charters cherry pick, it is the best parents who are chosen.
They'd all go because their parents want them to go just like in our system really- truant enforcement is pathetic.
My best class in school was in a trailer. You do not need fancy buildings (as much as I think they look nice), education comes first above all else.
I think boundary lines are stupid. Get rid of them. I do like the idea of school choice a lot. I would have chosen a more technology based school.
Careful, Reggie needs to ask John if college is a scam.. hint: it is..
Depends on what he goes for.
The City of Chicago and the State of Illinois lost a treasure when Paul Vallas left. New Orleans won. Congratulations to them.
Just make all public schools charter schools!!!
What about the kids with disability that had to sue the school board
Why are people living and rebuilding a town below sea level?! There’s going to be another hurricane
It's better to have a charter school then a stupid public school because I didn't learn shit about life and shits.
i had a handful of good teachers
Nmmnmnnm,nonme,tal
Huge fallacy at the end. What disaster created Hong Kong?
none. it was built from the ground up by the UK government then forcefully handed over to the PRC government
