I really hate how fatphobic a lot of kids's shows are, and some impressionable viewers might get the wrong idea that overweight people deserve to be jeered and laughed at.
It's okay, I really hate that too! The people who believe that making fun of people with eating disorders is also unacceptable and should not be tolerated! LOL
I feel guilty of being fatphobic when i was young cuz the cartoons presented to my young impressionable self is fatphobic and now when i see their struggles of their sizes and eating disorders i feel crap abt my young self
It always struck me odd how the premise of the show was the Ross kids being neglected to where their parents had to hire Jessie full time to take care of them. Their parents barely showed up and would throw money around when they did. No wonder the kids are spoiled 😮💨
Bertram was always my fave character. People would page me weird for that but I didn't care. I hated how they treated him on the show. So when I saw that you made this video, I immediately clicked on it lol. He deserved way more. His actor is amazing!
And they'll get hated by their so-called fans. It makes you wonder if they really are their true fans. If they are, then they should praise all of the hard work that they put into their routine (I mean, there are celebrities that get liposuction, but sometimes it's a "life or death situation" if they stick to diet and exercise). To me, the best example is Rebel Wilson. Everyone loves her... before the weight loss. Another best example is that my doctor recommended me the Keto diet. When I mentioned to her that I did start on the Intermittent Fasting diet, she simply replied that "when you fast, the reason why that you're losing all of that weight is that you're not eating anything." I know that it sounded simple, but it's true. Plus, both my grandma (from my late mom's side) and I noticed that I was getting "angry" until I had food in me. Also, (for personal reasons), she put in on "Red Peonies" medicine, but they cause me to gain weight due to a side effect. It's pretty much a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" moment. If you lose weight, your family praises you. If you gain it due to medicine, "You were doing so well, what happened?".
Absolutely. Ursula is the biggest example. Not only did I grow up seeing her side and wanted her to get a redemption arc and her kingdom back, but the way she was treated and portrayed is just…wow. They did all of this on purpose. Bertrand was miserable and almost never happy and when he was, everyone would shit on him and ruin it for him. It’s so awful. It’s sickening thinking back on it.
Good Luck Charlie is still one of my favorite shows, but it was always really gross to me how they constantly made fat jokes about the dad. And then when the actor lost weight irl, some of the characters (mainly Gabe) remarked that they were disappointed they couldn’t make fat jokes about him anymore. That’s ridiculous especially for a show that aired in the 2010s. By writing these jokes, they are insulting a REAL PERSON. Idk why that’s so hard to understand. Not to mention it tells young kids watching that these kinds of comments are okay. Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family praised the show for never writing jokes about his weight, and while I’m glad for that, that shouldn’t even be something people have to worry about.
That's downright stupid and extremely corporate if I do say so myself. Also, I also love how Hariyanna censored the word, "disorder," in the title card! LMAO
I remember hearing how the girl who played plus sized girl in saved by the bell for the episode where Zac and the cast berated her for the weight was surprisingly a good sport about it and weirdly jovial… With the downside of a lot of the cast and crew being really uncomfortable while filming and constantly checking in to see if its ok I didn’t bring up the actresses cheery demeanor as a a means to excuse this kind of writing, its moreso about how when done, people behind the scenes can and often ARE made uncomfortable by this kind of writing. So it makes me wonder if so parts of the staff can feel uncomfortable with whats being written, it makes me wonder why it got written and put into the show in the first place??? It makes it feel like the people behind this kinda shit are genuinely fully aware of how these kinda of jokes can affect their actors and the kids watching, yet still go through with it anyways. The fact that people on staff are cognizant of it makes it all the ickier when they actually go through with it.
@@theradionicrevival8068 reminds me of how Tracey Gold on Growing Pains always had fat jokes written about her character and how she had a severe eating disorder in real life. Like. This stuff has real effects and it’s disappointing to still see it in the 2000s.
I agree I feel like that's why a lot of actor's who play the fat stereotype end up looseing weight as the show progresses For example the dad from good luck Charlie Josh from drake and Josh Gibby from icarly.
people have told me that this doesn't encourage kid's to bully BUT IT DOES. my friends would always repeat the disney fat jokes to me and it hurt a lot. they would make fun of me if i said my favorite character was ivy or trish. and a lot of the time, the "plus size" characters aren't actually plus size. i remember being a kid and being actually relieved on the rare occurrence when a character was ACTUALLY fat instead of hollywoods idea of fat.
@@violetlydia I used to watch it a lot along with shake it up, ant farm, Jessie, and Austin and ally (my elementary school music teacher used to turn this and Austin and ally on all the time) But I never saw all the episodes in order and stuff I watched Austin and ally during 2020 when Covid was big and I thought it was a decent show the choir made me laugh though 😂 but Ima check out good luck charlie
Though as a thin person me saying this might not mean a lot you are totally right since there is an actual study the bandora effect supporting your comment along with the fact that shaming overweight individuals just makes them gain more weight and it’s just offal business since why watch a show that makes fun of you like Debby are you executive producing a comedy or burning money pick one
And I agree it’s weird that adults think it’s okay to show people getting bullied for their weight by someone they admire and them not imitate them then not develop an eating disorder the math is not adding up folks
Honestly Jessie had more problems than just that. Despite being fat jokes most of the time I still found Bertram the most likable of the main cast, the biggest issue with Jessie is that all of the characters are completely unlikable, especially Emma and Zuri. And most of the time the jokes were just "Everyone takes a dump on Jessie' a majority of the time or how depressing she is with relationships.
Yeah because Tracy's life didn't revolve around her being fat and unhappy. The characters didn't ignore her weight but it wasn't essential to her story. I loved that as a kid.
I watched a 2005 cartoon called Megas XLR, where the protagonist is a chill plus sized gamer who pilots a giant robot. He's confident, happens to love food and is undeniably the good guy. Even when some antagonistic characters call out his weight he doesn't take it seriously. I should rewatch the show because maybe I misremember (we know how nostalgia can blind people), but I remember him being a rare example of a positive portrayal. (Or maybe I have nostalgia glasses and the fatphobia was much worse than I remember, in which case I'll take it all back).
Sad but true! Fatphobia is very much real and it's sad. As someone who actually IS plus-sized, I know how it feels to struggle with your body image because Hollywood portrays us as ugly and I was bullied partially in elementary school (and middle school) for being overweight. This even extended into high school because a boy I had a crush on even told me that he thought I'd play Mrs. Potts in my high school's production of Beauty and the Beast because I "was fat." At the time, I was fighting anemia, could fit into a size six (though I usually wore a size ten), and was showing some of my bones so it was disheartening. Furthermore, because I've never been smaller than a size six, I was never allowed to play the lead roles, especially if the production was a fairy tale like Sleeping Beauty (which the thinnest girl got the role of with my former crush who called me fat playing the prince =_=X) or Cinderella (which I wound up getting the role of the stepmother in TWICE). So it's not just Hollywood; it's ANY kind of job in the entertainment industry where you're on stage! Anyway I'm saddened to hear this about Jessie, but not surprised considering Disney's history with it (as well as everything you talked about regarding the racism and anti-Semitism in the show). I feel really bad for Kevin Chamberlin because he's a good actor who was in one of my favorite (underrated) Broadway shows, Seussical and was a replacement in the role of The Wizard in Wicked so to see him treated that way in what was probably his biggest Disney role was disheartening. I also didn't watch Austin and Ally much, but in the episodes I saw, I also felt bad for Raini Rodriguez in the scenes she was in. It disgusts me that Disney does the "fat bastard" trope so much and both Kevin Chamberlin and Raini Rodriguez deserved better treatment from Disney than that. Disney is one of the biggest offenders of this. In addition to what you mentioned, Demi Lovato called out Disney when in Shake it Up Season 1 episode 7, "Party It Up," a model comments "I could just eat you up, well if I ate." The problem? Demi Lovato left Disney because she was struggling with an eating disorder. Hearing about this, an episode of Good Luck Charlie where PJ has a nightmare about being overweight, and season 1 episode 9 of So Random (a spin-off of Sonny With a Chance, which Demi Lovato actually worked on; yeah, Disney actually INSULTED her on a spin-off of her OWN SHOW when she wouldn't have even LEFT the show in the first place if one of her struggles wasn't eating disorders), it's disheartening. Then again, they did it while Demi Lovato was still employed with them too because in "Princess Protection Program," a character who is a candidate for Homecoming Queen says "I'd rather eat carbs than see her wear my crown." Believe it or not, episodes of Disney Channel shows used to have GOOD morals for children about body image. The episode, "Inner Beauty" of Lizzie McGuire teaches children that you shouldn't starve yourself to try and lose weight when Miranda "goes on a crash diet" to lose weight after seeing an unflattering photo of herself. Season 2 episode 34, "Health and Fitness" of Suite Life of Zack and Cody teaches children that you should be happy the way you are when Maddie is told she's too thin to model and London is told she's too fat, resulting in Maddie binge eating while London exercises obsessively and starves herself. In the same episode, Zack gets put on a balanced diet (the food pyramid, basically) because he's been eating too many sweets and Cody helps the hotel chef lower his cholesterol by teaching him healthy eating habits. London learns that she has to eat unless she wants to faint, Maddie learns that eating too much can cause you to get bloated, Zack learns that sweets are fine in moderation (which his mom agrees to as a compromise), and the hotel chef learns that he needs to eat healthier if he wants to keep his cholesterol down, resulting in an episode that tackles body positivity, the danger of eating disorders, and the importance of healthy eating all at the same time. Also, in season 2 episode 8 of That's So Raven, "That's Not So Raven," Raven wants to model her own dress, but when the fashion magazine photoshops her to look skinny, she becomes obsessed with becoming thinner because the head of the fashion agency believes "that there is only one look for all models." After encouragement from a woman who wanted to see "her size" modeled in the dress, Raven winds up modeling her own dress ALONGSIDE a professional model and learns that you should be happy with the way you are. It disgusts me that Disney went from shows that taught children good morals to ones that promoted Hollywood's unrealistic ideals of beauty. Then again, considering they've done that from the get-go with some of their villains, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I just hope they're more careful with their writing, but Disney seems to only care about money. They only pulled the episodes with eating disorder jokes after Demi Lovato publicly complained on Twitter and Demi Lovato isn't the only former Disney star to deal with eating disorders or be put on a restrictive diet because of Hollywood's unrealistic standards. Hilary Duff ate a diet of nothing but steamed vegetables and broiled chicken, despite 130 pounds being a perfectly healthy weight for her and Raven Symone said that even when she was 7 years old on the Cosby Show, she was put on a restrictive diet.
This is the closest i’ll get into getting a deepdive video on The memification of characters like Bob duncan , bertram, and Rani rodríguez in general. It’s been on my mind what caused that era of memes
I love Kevin Chamberlin so much, he's a great actor and seems like such a sweet person too. I know him best from being Horton in Seussical the Musical, and I remember seeing a little interview from opening night where he talked about how he was so excited for this role because as an older, balding, fat man, he never thought he was going to get to play the hero. And I'm happy he got that experience with Horton but it also makes me so sad that that had to be such a big deal in the first place, that it wasn't something available to him most of the time.
It makes me so mad that this same channel (including other channels) will make very special episodes about the dangers of eating disorders and body image issues and turn around to make fatphobic jokes
I remember one time I was in my grandma’s house with some kids that were friends of my cousins. We were all watching Jessie and then the kids started to say what characters they were, then one of them said that my brother would be Bertram because he is fat. I remember my brother being really bothered by it and it’s honestly very sad. What those kids said about my brother really left a bad taste in my mouth.
When I watched Austin and Ally, Trish and Dez were always my favorites. They really carried the show to be honest, however, I am SOOO tired of the spicy latina troupe. Like I can't exist and get angry abt anything without being called an "angry latina girl" (I'm hispanic), but yeah it really just demonstrates how perpetuating the same stereotypes again and again can affect the viewers perceptions about other groups of people. As someone who is thin I believe that there should still be decent rep for plus sized people. Also just plus sized people existing or being featured in shows doesn't equal promoting obesity or anything of the sort. It's like saying that thin people existing promotes unhealthy calorie restrictions and an*rexia. It just doesn't make sense.
Yup. It’s the same for Black women(and for Black Latinas, it’s both tropes). I’ve often been dismissed as an angry/sassy Black girl whenever I am opinionated or rightfully offended by something. I get told to “chill out” and “calm down” and to stop having such an “attitude” even though I am a very sweet and chill person.
I am shocked to see someone talking about fatphobia for once, especially on RUclips (which is one of the most fatphobic websites out there), and you even call it fatphobia instead of dismissing it as "fat shaming." Seriously thank you for discussing fatphobia in your videos. This is the first video of yours I've watched. My friend was looking up videos about fatphobia in Nickelodeon shows and sent me two videos of yours. We were both so surprised to see your videos on RUclips not making fun of fat people's oppression since that's the only way fatphobia is ever brought by RUclips creators.
I am so surprised that Disney still chooses to play Jessie so much on their channel despite the fact that it has so many issues. Jessie actually had so much potiental to be a better show. You know how in one episode, there was a butler that replaced Bertram who was super hardworking and perfectionistic? Well, why couldn't Bertram be like that? That way, they would've avoided the whole "character that isn't skinny is lazy" stereotype. The other characters on the show could've been done so much better as well. Ravi could've been the popular one that was good at sports but struggled with academics. Emma could still love fashion, but she could also be passionate about activism and care about social issues, similar to Destiny's character on Bunk'd. She could try to use her privilege to make the world a better place instead of just caring about herself. Luke could've been the extremely smart one. And then rather than Zuri being the sassy black girl stereotype, she could've been super nice and kind-hearted, maybe even a bit shy and would have to try overcome her shyness in order to make friends. If they would've done that and would not have the characters constantly insulting each other for the sake of "comedy", then Jessie would've been a fantastic show. It's sad how Disney just ruined all the potiental this show had. Thank you for making this video, I hope you are happy and healthy and I hope you're having an amazing week!❤️
Though when you mentioned it made me realize that he was never as lazy as people made him out to be since he was always cleaning and cooking and was actually very passionate about his job since he made a lot of references to various parts of it though it was mean how Jessie always made fun of him though he was one of the few characters that never undermined her acting career or made fun of the kids and it’s more fat phobic I feel when you consider that Jessie is incompetent since the house would be clean if she could better manage the kids which is never discussed though I would like to add to your alternative version of the show if Jessie and nanny Agatha we’re friends since it’s sexist and lookism that they had her portrayed as the bad guy because she was old and not conventionally attractive though she was very competent and caring to the children she cared for
One my friends from middle school had a parakeet named Bertram! Unfortunately, he did get his name from his size. Just goes to show that this behavior is taught to kids from a young age.
growing up watching disney during the Selena/Miley/Shake it up era i legitimately thought i could never become an actress because i didn't have a flat stomach. i have a clear memory from a 'suite life on deck' episode london making a comment which implied abby was fat .... that was so messed up, disney really made us believe some actresses were fat just because they weren't as skinny as the main characters we were used to see on our favorite tv series. no wonder why my classmates were so fatphobic and obsessed with weight at such i young age (i was too but at least i didn't comment on other people's bodies because i was too busy being insecure about mine), parents make a huge part of it yes, but the media kids consume do influence them A LOT
It’s crazy that NOBODY in Washington has looked at the education system in this country, and suggested that maybe we should be teaching kids how to put a fork down.
I'm glad this didn't warp my mind as a kid, I only loved this guy for his silly sweetness and being a little similar to my favorite uncle.. though watching this fully, I'm starting to think I made this character up in my head-- Also as a 7 year old, I had a crush on Ursula :o So they definitely failed that one.
Appreciate you for making this. Been following for a while but a bigger person tbh it’s wild to go on RUclips and look for this topic and it’s largely people mocking the very concept of harassment against fat people. It’s so normalized. Im glad I found this vid. But because of that it’s an under talked about topic
The older i get i get bertram he was the best character zuri and ravi were honestly the only ones who didnt always treat him like crap but their were some scenes where they were rude to him i felt bad for him the whole show but he carried it honestly
It is so frustrating how almost EVERY fat character in media, especially in children's shows, is always shown as a big eater. It is legitimately absurd. Most of the time, it is their only or most defining character trait. Extremely unoriginal and bad writing, and it's everywhere.
yeah it sucks, even Arcane didn't escape that gag, in like the first episode when the main girls are kids and they're breaking into a fancy lab with the other street kids, the fat guy steals a cupcake off a window sill and shoves it in his mouth, its just a little lazy and if i were to do it id have the scrawny guy grab it, and subvert expectations like they do a lot in the rest of the show
I was never *that* fat but I was overweight for more than half of my 24 years of life! Unlike a lot of people, I was almost never bullied for my weight. However, I was *very* insecure about my weight! I longed to be skinny but I never wanted to eat healthy or exercise. Part of it was due to my autism. I was a very picky eater after all. Another part of it was due to low self-esteem. By the time I got to high school, I tried to eat my problems away. I was constantly snacking on things, even in class. I got caught several times but the teachers never did anything beyond giving me warnings. After high school, my years of excessive eating got to me in a different way. I ended up getting acid reflux in my late teens. *That's* when I finally started losing weight! I'm at a pretty average weight now but I have to take antacids to avoid dealing with excessive burping, bile, and heartburn. ☹️
This is such a great video. This problem definitely effects so much, for instance in high school, my drama teacher would regularly tell me how much she liked my performance, ect, and that seniority was the most important thing to her when casting for the school plays, and in my senior year we did a beauty and the beast play and I was the only senior girl in the play. But I didn’t get to be Belle. I got to be an ugly step sister. Did you even know belle had ugly step sisters? This is how I found out.
yikes, I mean in some versions i know she does have sisters but they usually are just very shallow and vain, but still very pretty, usually with opening lines or narration like "there one was an old widower who had 3 gorgeous daughters. The older 2 were caddy bitches but the youngest of the 3 beautiful daughters was sweet and kind, because you see the family used to be very rich but the mother died and the fathers money was lost at sea not long after belle/beauty was born, so she didn't grow up a spoiled brat like her sisters did. This is where we start our tale blah blah blah" as far as I'm aware they are never step sisters, and they are usually just as pretty as belle, it honestly sounds like your teacher couldnt find a """"SUITABLE ROLE"""" (heavy eye roll) that was main cast enough for a senior And that wasn't Belle and just stole one from Cinderella (especially if you guys were adapting the disney version of beauty and the beast) honestly it really just goes to show how much peoples biases affect their decision making, it's so stupid honestly
I always thought poor Bertram was just a rehashing of the housekeeper Muriel from The Suite Life of Zach and Cody. (I think she also suffered from this awful treatment.) Mostly cuz Disney doesn't know how to write nuanced characters, they just recycle them every 4-6 years for new audiences 😔
Oh, Jessie. That was a childhood show. Before I watch the video though, I fell into some theme-park rabbit hole and I've learned of these extremely fatphobic Epcot exhibit: "Habit Heroes". It reportedly "encouraged bullying against overweight children" and it lasted a whole three years...
@@izzyc127 I've said it in the comment, but it villianizes fat people and treat fat kids as if they're lazy bums. Plus they defeat the fat villain, who is a gross caricature, by just "making him move".
Burtrum is my favorite character from Jesse, he reminds me of my dad, a big reason for that is because he kinda looked like him, I didn't like how mean the others were to him
Another great video from Harriyanna. You know, it's also present on their animated shows. 2000s cartoons always had at least one episode where the main characters get really fat and fat jokes ensue. There's a heavily handed Aesop of healthy eating tacked on the end. And it's not just limited to B*tch H*rtm*n. A lot of childhood shows were guilty of this. It's sad how many children's television shows perpetuate fatphobic messages. That's why I'm so critical of children's shows as opposed to reality shows because their target audience are more impressionable. I can't stand this trope of having an entire episode dedicated to characters rapidly gaining weight just to make fat jokes, only to revert back to their fit shape by the next episode.
The funniest paradox is when the creators want you to hate a character and it turns out to be the only solid thing in a production, the paradox of tropes, although it also annoys and bores me, that overweight characters are still the same
In refrence to the part about Disney/Hollywood making plus-sized characters a villain, I noticed that they do this with racists too. While I'm typing this, I'm currently editing a podcast episode in which I note how the cartoonishly racist character in the racial drama I'm reviewing was casted by a plus-zisezed man, and how racial dramas has a way of building that archetype and it's often a plus-sized white man, which also negates what a real racist can look like (not gonna go too much in detail about that because it will overstep the point). That was just something I wanted to share
Tbf Vanessa being fat would be bad too. It would be implying that there’s no way a fat woman can win a slimmer man’s eye without having used some magical seduction on him, with the superior thin woman swooping in and saving the day.
I’m a Chicano plus size trans man who makes films and im currently working on something that has good representation. I really want people to know they aren’t alone
Growing up in the early 2000s was pure hell if you were anything but a stick straight thin body. It was so bad that even very thin girls had that mindset as well. I had an ED growing up, in my mind my self worth was directly linked to my appearance and weight. I wouldn't judge anyone else that way though, it only applied to how I felt about myself. I had this mindset to the point of it being dangerous and unhealthy. Back then people really did convince me that I was ugly, disgusting and unlovable.
It's worth noting that the show was somewhat created by the people behind "The Nanny", iconic show, but definitely a "product of it's time" and very fatphobic. "The Focus Group" is a good short film, not family friendly (you will see nudity), but it does counter the idea that you need to be thinner or change your personality to be happy or "successful" (ask me why the quotations) in career. She ends the film happy and having put on weight.
Wow you seem so genuine!!! Which sadly, seems to be a rare trait these days🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ I knew you were really within the first 30 seconds of this vid, so I'm an instant subscriber😊
I recently subscribed to your channel because of you passionate and brilliant analysis of cultural cruelties that are so often right in our face if we have the courage to name them. Which you clearly do!
Another thing regarding this topic that I can think of is from the Disney channel show Ant Farm? There was a character named Angus who is supposed to be a smart prodigy but the show portrayed him as being really stupid, gross, and lazy, and eating all the time which is rather contradictory to the type of character he is supposed to play This definitely is no coincidence because after watching this video it is obvious why the show portrayed him this way 🙄
One character that reminds me of this trope is Zomom for the 2013 video game "Sonic Lost World", for the Wii U. Zomom is a member of the Deadly Six, a Zeti villian group from the game. Zomom is the textbook definiton of the "fat bastard", trope. His entire character is just "I'm fat, I eat alot, and I'm stupid", and I find his character very troubling, because of that.
Though based on the last part of your video maybe the reason Disney and media is sexist racist as well as fat phobic is because nobody boycotts or cancels their shows we should all just give up on watching Disney and tv all together
I remember my mom snapped at me and my sibling after we had been watching this show for awhile. I don’t remember what we said or did exactly, but she told us that life is not a sitcom, so I’m guessing we were l being l disrespectful lol
i love you, harri. i hope you are having an amazing day because you deserve it!! always know how many people care about you. you are WORTH it. always make sure to take everything one day at a time. you are amazing, harri.
@apple apologist 🍎 This was before Melissa was casted. When the remake was first announced some people wanted Queen Latifah to play Ursula and a lot people weren't with the idea of plus size black woman playing a villain cause apparently it was negative stereotype.
Jessie and Shake It Up have literally aged the worst out of all Disney Channel’s 2010s sitcoms (before the downward spiral started with Dog with a blog, Girl Meets World, Liv and Maddie, etc). ANT farm was decent but not one of my personal favorites. Austin and Ally and Good Luck Charlie are the best aged and the best sitcoms:
I don't know about Austin & Ally, considering the lack of diversity besides Trish, despite taking place in one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the U.S. Good Luck Charlie just had so much fat jokes towards Bob until his weight loss and even with that, Teddy & Spencer's relationship was so toxic so... idk about this one 😬
@@syria0110 I agree that it’s not perfect but I still love the show and I think it’s aged like fine wine. It’s helped me through so much emotional turmoil and anxiety and depression.
@@audreytheausllyologist502 That's good for you, but you still have to acknowledge the good with the bad, ESPECIALLY being more critical of shows you enjoy (Harri even made a video of how Austin & Ally really wasn't as good as people made it out to be because of nostalgia)
Should’ve talked about bookman from good times! He had it the worst ever 😭but I know that show isn’t in your category to talk about on your channel but he was the first person to come to mind when I read the title lol
Gunther from Kick Buttowski, Howard from Randy Cunningham, Harold from Hey Arnold!, Neil from ParaNorman, Owen from Total Drama…all fall into the fat side character stereotype.
@Noah51609 well, until he won he was mainly used for comedy. Owen was the complete stereotype of an overweight person who eats and farts alot. Total Drama had lots of negative stereotypes.
@Noah51609 if anybody, contestants like Heather, Courtney, Duncan, and Gwen were much more prominent than Owen (in terms of trying to compete), but Owen surprised us all! Owen just wanted to make friends, party, and eat. He probably cared less about the actual cash prize, until it was just him, Gwen, and Heather left. That's when he became focused.
It really pisses me off with the fat phobia that certain people have in media. When watching dbz, I hated how at Yaijerobe’s supposed last moments he yells out “Oh no, if I knew I would go out like this I would’ve eaten more jelly donuts.” I commented how I hated how they portray fat people and useless, a waste of space, and characterize them as people who eat all the time. And when I complained about it in the comments about how I hate how they portray Jaijerobe like that, commenters reply that I am probably whinnying because I am fat myself and angry at the world for treating my fatness as a joke. But no, I’m not fat and I don’t need to be to complain about the fatohobia being presented; I just hate how people treat fat people. Apparently it’s wrong to care about other people. 🙄
Question: I just came here from you Jessie video and I know it's been years but I saw that you made a video about Ravi(you mentioned it in the video) but I couldn't find it in your channel. Do you still have that video up or is that just a glitch for me because I genuinely am very curious to hear your thoughts on Ravi:))))
Hi👋Happy Friday!!!!! I'm such a huge fan of your RUclips Channel and I enjoy watching your videos and I'm very happy for you keep it up have a wonderful week and weekend.👍🤗😁😄👏
The guy who played Bob Duncan had weight issues in real life during the filming of first 3 seasons and while I don’t condone obesity it’s not something to make fun of as it can be seriously life threatening
I'm going to keep it a buck fifty with you. As someone who is obese and actively changing my lifestyle and relationship with food, I beg of any of you NOT to listen to the fat acceptance movement. While you should respect someone who is fat, do not feed into their issue and lie to them. Understand fat people have an addiction to food and addictions are bad. Not to mention all the health related issues that come with being fat(you are literally killing yourself) You do NOT need to go to the gym to lose weight, I am living proof of that. What you need is to be in a calorie deficit or burn more calories than you eat(Calories in calories out) its as simple as going to a tdee calculator on Google, putting in your height, weight, age and activity level. This will show you the calories your body needs to maintain your current weight. It's as simple as subtracting 300 to 500 calories from that number and eating that amount everyday. The best part is you can still eat your favorite foods in moderation, as long as you stay in the -300 to -500 calorie range I mentioned before. From there you will lose a pound to 2 pounds a week. This is slow yes but it's supposed to be slow and within a years time you could lose over 100 pounds. Should you love yourself? absolutely. Do you love it enough to live past 40? That's really up to you and if you care about you health. Obese People who are always calling skinny people fatphobic hate themselves and take it out on the types of people they will never become. Healthy and skinny. Before you come to call me fatphobic and all sorts of other internet insults, just know I'm obese myself, but I'm tired of pretending I'm happy in this body when I know I'M not and I can guarantee you those 400 pound fat acceptance people are miserable.
LOL
yeah. also in general there is RARELY an overweight person on a show as a main cast that has not been made fun of
I feel guilty of being fatphobic when i was young cuz the cartoons presented to my young impressionable self is fatphobic and now when i see their struggles of their sizes and eating disorders i feel crap abt my young self
I still find it wild how controversial Jessie was now that I’m older.
Same
It always struck me odd how the premise of the show was the Ross kids being neglected to where their parents had to hire Jessie full time to take care of them. Their parents barely showed up and would throw money around when they did. No wonder the kids are spoiled 😮💨
Me too, until with hindsight.

Bertram was always my fave character. People would page me weird for that but I didn't care. I hated how they treated him on the show. So when I saw that you made this video, I immediately clicked on it lol. He deserved way more. His actor is amazing!

It’s so sad how plus sized actors often have to lose weight to get leading man/leading lady roles.
@@christinalittleton3771 well some of them go anti-fat when they lose weight

Wow guys what a shocker, people don't want to watch obese characters in movies because they look grotesque what a shocker
That’s because she was the villain, she doesn’t deserve a redemption arc
I love Ursula
(Mostly bc I love the little mermaid
I understand, BUT, Ursula was an asthetic and idc if it's problematic, i wanna be that +sized evil BITCH
LMAO
I remember hearing how the girl who played plus sized girl in saved by the bell for the episode where Zac and the cast berated her for the weight was surprisingly a good sport about it and weirdly jovial…
With the downside of a lot of the cast and crew being really uncomfortable while filming and constantly checking in to see if its ok
I didn’t bring up the actresses cheery demeanor as a a means to excuse this kind of writing, its moreso about how when done, people behind the scenes can and often ARE made uncomfortable by this kind of writing.

Gibby from icarly.
people have told me that this doesn't encourage kid's to bully BUT IT DOES. my friends would always repeat the disney fat jokes to me and it hurt a lot. they would make fun of me if i said my favorite character was ivy or trish. and a lot of the time, the "plus size" characters aren't actually plus size. i remember being a kid and being actually relieved on the rare occurrence when a character was ACTUALLY fat instead of hollywoods idea of fat.

And most of the time the jokes were just "Everyone takes a dump on Jessie' a majority of the time or how depressing she is with relationships.
exactly, i don’t know why people love zuri and emma so much tbh i didn’t really like them especially emma.
Yeah and the jokes about ravi are kinda racist and the show is sexist too sometimes

Then again, they did it while Demi Lovato was still employed with them too because in "Princess Protection Program," a character who is a candidate for Homecoming Queen says "I'd rather eat carbs than see her wear my crown."
Believe it or not, episodes of Disney Channel shows used to have GOOD morals for children about body image.

The raini rodriguez memes make me uncomfortable sometimes
I know it’s weirdly offensive like how did anyone not see the connection
I love how you talk about these things. It’s crazy the media has been able to get away with this so much especially in children programming
That actually would have been nice to have watched

Your videos really inspire me to add as much representation as I can in my projects
I hope that one day there will be a plus size main character or a character in general who break this fat phobic problem
I also wanna add that Ursula became skinny at one point to be appealing to the prince. 😐 it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth

Another thing regarding this topic that I can think of is from the Disney channel show Ant Farm?
There was a character named Angus who is supposed to be a smart prodigy but the show portrayed him as being really stupid, gross, and lazy, and eating all the time which is rather contradictory to the type of character he is supposed to play
This definitely is no coincidence because after watching this video it is obvious why the show portrayed him this way 🙄
Im a simple man, I see a harriyanna upload and click
I gotta agree. When Hollywood casts for a fat character, it’s usually for laughs. They’d rather keep it on escapism than keep it realistic
Sega and Sonic Team should've checked their research before making the Deadly Six.
I always liked Bertram he was my favorite character of Jessie and second was Ravi

Though based on the last part of your video maybe the reason Disney and media is sexist racist as well as fat phobic is because nobody boycotts or cancels their shows we should all just give up on watching Disney and tv all together

1:05 a size 8??? I was in 10-12 in 5th grade!!!!
i love you, harri. i hope you are having an amazing day because you deserve it!! always know how many people care about you. you are WORTH it. always make sure to take everything one day at a time. you are amazing, harri.
Even as a kid I was getting really tired of the fat jokes they constantly said, and are we gonna mention the racist stereotypes in Jessie
Now I understand why black Twitter was not feeling the idea of casting a plus size black woman to play Ursula in the live-action Little Mermaid.
@@syria0110 Harri has her standpoint, and I have mine. I absolutely adore the show like Homer Simpson loves donuts.
@@audreytheausllyologist502 Sweet...
Also you can’t have black widow instantly become fat in A movie right after she was thin because that wouldn’t make any sense
Should’ve talked about bookman from good times! He had it the worst ever 😭but I know that show isn’t in your category to talk about on your channel but he was the first person to come to mind when I read the title lol
just watched an episode the other day and the amount of fat jokes was unbearable 😭
Kevin Chamberlain and his friends are killing it in their turtlenecks and blazers.
Gunther from Kick Buttowski, Howard from Randy Cunningham, Harold from Hey Arnold!, Neil from ParaNorman, Owen from Total Drama…all fall into the fat side character stereotype.
Wouldn’t owen be the main charecter since he won the game?
When watching dbz, I hated how at Yaijerobe’s supposed last moments he yells out “Oh no, if I knew I would go out like this I would’ve eaten more jelly donuts.”
I commented how I hated how they portray fat people and useless, a waste of space, and characterize them as people who eat all the time.
Idk how this was mentioned but the Diary Of Wimpy Kid Rowley section remind me of the actor who played Gibby on iCarly.
The guy who played Bob Duncan had weight issues in real life during the filming of first 3 seasons and while I don’t condone obesity it’s not something to make fun of as it can be seriously life threatening
so are we going to ignore all the skinny disney villains?
Speaking of fatphobia, could you possibly react to Kate and Toby from This Is Us?
Stop lying to yourselves and do what's best for YOU.
The fat acceptance movement isn't about saying that being fat is always healthy. It's saying your weight and looks don't determine your worth as a person.
@@charlieandhisantics9954 Then tell me way all the major outlets for fat acceptance say, healthy at any size? Or that their body weight doesn't determine their health, when they're 400 pounds?
I don't believe in fatphobia
Agreed it's total bullshit
