    You really should do a video on the differences between the two types of consoles. You seem very knowledgeable in your field, so I think your followers might agree ;). new sub Btw. Great vid.

      Thanks. That's a great idea. I'll see if I can't squeeze that in soon. Thanks for the sub. I look forward to hearing what you think about what we have coming up this month. Cool stuff.

    Thanks for making this, we've got one of these in our rehearsal space and are about to move it to a new tracking room. I love the desk you have here, assuming it's a custom build? I'd love to get a clean look like that in our room.

      The desk is by Argosy. I don't know if they still make that model. I found this one on Craigslist. But I'm glad you liked the video. Thanks for commenting!

      I've looked at some Argosy desks but it's so hard to visualize what works. Do you happen to remember the model name?

    • @learnprorecording
      @learnprorecording  Год назад

      @@TheLightAluminum Sorry - This desk is an Omnirax 600 model. Discontinued at #Omnirax. But, you can maybe find one on Reverb or Craiglist, etc. My other studio is the Argosy desk. We have an Audient ASP4816 console in the other studio. I still like the #A&HGS3000 better.🙂

    This is a p[art of the desk series Allen & Heath built for the "Gearslutz" message board in the early days of the internet, there is a second revision of this desk called the Allen & Heath GS-R24 & R24M which had automation. The Valve preamps were nice on these desks, the later GS-R24 had some EQ enhancements but retained almost everything else. There were not a ton of these made because the revision R24 model came out very soon after in like 1997. It's actually one the best analog desks Allen & Heath ever made. The only consoles to top its features was the ML4000 & ML5000 series and the later R24 & R24M revisions. But the Preamps are as clean as you can get and the EQ is very clean. Also if I remember correctly you can take the top panel off of the console and change the routing with dip switches to make the Direct outs pre/post fader or pre/post EQ.

    Great console. I have been looking for a 32 channel one for a while now. I do have one of the Allen Heath GL series and that does sound great as well, but they're not an inline design w/tape returns. One day I'm hoping one of these pops up on Reverb or Ebay that's in driving distance. Nice video.

    Cool vid... lots of great info. Can you tell me what is the difference between this and the GL2800 mixer?

    • @learnprorecording
      @learnprorecording  Год назад

      Sure. Thanks. The GL series is a "Live" Console. Still very worthy in any studio situation. Probably one of the biggest differences is the amount of Aux control. There is more for the GL than the GS. If you have a chance to pick one of those up, you will not be disappointed. Just be prepared to map out your signal flow if you implement a patch bay situation. Make sure you think of every situation you might run into in your studio. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

    I would like to buy an Allen&head ML4000 (32 or 48) channels and I need to now how the sound from the preamps. for tracking drums with 18 mics and them mix hybrid (logic and A&H) with all my gear... I think that would be amazing. what do you think?
    Thanks from France and best regards.

      I hope by now you have this console. The valve pre-amp makes this console sound warm and puts you into a studio 30 years back. Clean and clear there is a warmth to the sound that’s hard to describe. I have a £13k console right now and the GS 3000 everyone agrees sounded better. I regret selling it but will find another one day soon.

    I never understood the (XFX (extra FX) red button???? HELP. thank you.

    • @learnprorecording
      @learnprorecording  Год назад

      THE Red XFX Button is an SSL trait. It basically turns the small fader into another Aux send. (That is if you have it wired to your patch bay). I've personally never had to use it. But it's good to know it's there JIC. Hope that helps!
