I am new to all this technical stuff. With all the videos I've watched on how to use a mixing console, this one ACTUALLY teaches how to set a board. Thank you!
Thank you for this. I'm all new to this and since we are just starting out with new instruments in my church, I'm the one in the best position to control and manage the sound. So your information on the basics is really very much appreciated from this end.
Wow, I was always learning from you about "how to properly use gear". I even have bought video about PA systems in the past. You have impact my knowlage A LOT. You just cant imagine how much I was watching you and how much I fallow your advices to this day. Your tips are always working 100%. Thanks master Groovy. I am happy you continue to do this. Greetings from Lithuania
Thanks my friend! I'll keep on sharing stuff as long as SOMEONE will learn something from it. I'm thankful that you have hung in there with me. Stay safe and stay groovy!
I've been singing for many years now and learned this - I point the mic at my mouth - but not my mouth at the mic. I sing over it - past it - to eliminate puffing sounds. I hold the mic from one to two inches from my mouth. This method works great.
I am really enjoying all the new videos, don’t know what you are talking about a lot of the time but none the less, enjoyable! Happy to hear you regularly again Dr. Groovy.
Dude im sitting here laughing my ass off over at you. Wired up on that??? Aye sometimes gotta do what you gotta do. I preciate you for talking out the time to share.....🤟🏾
Wondrous clarity of cutting edge detail rarely found else ware on any platform of information revelation... I am experiencing evocative tonal re birthing and aural magnanimity!! Mmm Feels Good!!
Awesome instructional video Scott, you have no idea how glad I am to see this, not every band, power trio, musician, guitarist has a dedicated sound man handy, especially these days! (drummer/sound man's taking care of his aging mom), so this has truly been helpful. Been thinking about ya bud, I truly hope you're feeling better; still cracking funny ass jokes and sounding good & strong, hope you stay well! ''Loved channel long time', keep up the good work!
Thanks for the video Scott! I am wanting to learn more and more about sound and all that goes with it. You’ve helped take away some fear of how to run a sound board. Thank you for all ya do!
Great video. I'm new at running my own band sound and it is still an adventure. Last time was very good. Thanks for the tips. I enjoy your videos up here in Howell Mi. Take care and stay well. And I will too.
yeah! last year I found a fender runaway pedal, I lost that one to bidding.this year there was another, somebody bought it right underneath me . I'm still in search of, never going give up.
You weren’t kidding when you said you’re loud. I get some karaoke singers that swallow the mic and muddy up my mix!! I have to change gain settings for them
Yeah man, this is great, and the reason after doing the band for 20 + years, we do our own sound, why is it, that 80% of genuine sound techs think they know everything, but really, they don't know squat..I've been in many gigs where the soundman is in charge, and God help you if you offer any suggestions that will make you sound better. They get instantly offended, then they go all in on jacking up your sound. I realize they can work with alot of new bands and they may not have the experience to know what they may need, or not need. But a band that's been playing consistently for the last 24 years, just might know the difference of at least a few frequencies. I know, I like alot of lows, and low mids in my vox. And alot of mids, and high mids in my guitar, and I like to lower mids in my bass, and have plenty of lows and highs as I like a good thick roundwound slappy basstone, but I play with a pick. not my fingers, and, no muddy ass flatwounds.. can you please do a full tutorial on setting up an entire band from startup through mixing, to breakdown, and loadout. Alot of people just don't realize how hard the work is to be in a working band. A 12hr day can lead to 3 or 4 hours of travel, 2hrs of settup, 2 hours of breakdown, and loadout. All this for a 2 to 4 hr show. I'm sometimes exhausted by the time it's showtime, but then after the first note, I'm all into til the end. Then, breakdown, and loadout sucks. .
Great explanation of the gain knob, Scott! I kind of wish you would've also talked more about the faders, unity gain, master volume, and power amp setting to finish up the gain structure.
Great video! I Nice mixing board.I jusr bought my first Allen and Heath mixer. ZED-18 and I very impressed how well it sounds. I was wondering how you compare A&H with other mixers.
Thank You, this is terrific info and not info that is easy to come by. I appreciate your sharing your experience. In other vids you talk about the Strat Plus (late 80's - 90's) being the best Strats, but you have also said that the Japanese were better? not sure how this works? do you have any favorites among the MIJ and do you know of a reliable seller (in Japan?) to deal with.
Hey Scott thanks for doing these reviews, might be a dumb question but I haven't done PA in a long time, can you connect an external effects processor to this unit? Europower PMP2000 is the one I'm referring to.
I experienced trouble when setting the gain in the mixer without the PFL button and only two main LED meter indicator lights were available, namely 'Signal' and 'Peak' only. Whereas in the channel strip there is only a 'peak' lamp, which is related to the knob gain on the channel itself. Are there good instructions sir?
How can I hook up effect for vocal when I need Aux1-5 for monitors. Is there a way to use aux 6 as the effects and have each vocal channel have the effects needed?channel
They're similar, but not exactly the same. Gain typically refers to an analog adjustment. Trim is a gain adjustment, but it applies to the signal after its been converted to digital. Also, its not meant to be used for large adjustments. One of the disadvantages of working with gain and volume in the digital domain is the bit rate is altered when you make the adjustment. The more you lower it, the more resolution you loose. If you raise the gain, you run the risk of increasing the noise floor the greater the adjustment. Obviously, you can only increase gain above 0 and "boost" the signal, volume controls can only go down from max.
The DJM 600 is a DJ mixer. The same rules apply, but the features, and how you use them can vary. You have to make the decision based on your needs. Also, when you say digital mixer, I assume you mean a mixer that can also be used to control software, like Serato. As long at the new mixer can do whatever it is you need it to do, of course you can upgrade.
Everyone should do everything the way you do it because you are after all the undisputed if not the ULTIMATE authority on everything including "chicks" 😂 ok👌

I feel smarter for watching this. Thanks Scott.

Yo Scott thank you did this short tutorial on the famous volume knob at the top, lol.

Good Job Scott

Hey, my pleasure. I wish there was a way to patch in external effects. There aren't any Aux. sends on that unit.
Hi Scott , I’m old and new to all this. Is the set up the same if you’re going from a mixing board into a computer to record ? Thank you kindly.
Cheers !
thx

😂
Where do you have the main volume fader control set while setting while you’re setting up the individual channels
Hi there. Everything is set at "0". That's about 2/3 the way up.
Thanks for the tips! 👍🏻
-a noob
Is a trim knob same as the gain knob? My mixer lacks the gain knob. Thanks.
Yes, it is. Thanks for asking.
They're similar, but not exactly the same. Gain typically refers to an analog adjustment. Trim is a gain adjustment, but it applies to the signal after its been converted to digital. Is this for production song OR for live sound and recording
This particular video was geared at live mixing, but the same structure will apply for recording etc.
@@groovydjs also applys midi music production 🙌
Can I change my analog mixer and upgrade it to a digital mixer? DJM 600
