oh my god people shut up. music is not a contest. stop bitching over who you think is better or whether guthrie is good or sucks. it's not a damn contest, stop pretending like your opinion is the be all and end all of musical facts. you're missing the ENTIRE point of music and art when you think that way.
***** Well this guy chosen that perspective on music. The thing with music and art is this: it depends on the perspective you have on it. You can understand how music can be a technical contest, yet on the other hand you can also understand how music is supposed to be only emotional, spiritual or whatever, yet on the other hand you can also see music as the understanding of harmony by studying chord chemistry or Bach, yet on the other hand you can also see music as 99% rhythm since rhythm is so important and that triplets rule the world, yet on the other hand you can see music like bebop saying that bebop will make you understand harmony more than Bach, yet on the other hand you can see music as just sound and the idea of kids going together and making sounds with the same old tools is nothing new, but can be enjoyed nevertheless, yet on the other hand you can see music as just sound that stirs up emotions and thoughts, yet on the other hand you can see music as just a purpose to dance, yet on the other hand you can see music as the backdrop for the melody and poetry, and that the lyrics needs to have meaning, yet on the other hand you can see music as scientific, with its fluctuations, waves that are either balanced or unbalanced and how it affects the mind and thus triggers emotions, yet on the other hand you can see music in...... MANY WAYS! You know what music is all of this and even more. Even if it is paradoxical and contradictory, music is and can be all of this depending on the perception of the individual with his/her interpretations of some songs in the vast infinite field of what music is. TL;DR?
Freckin great musician, composer and guitarist. We applaud great technique and value towards the work/effort to play with great facility. No,"show off", no "dumbass" just amazing effort and Buck Loads of influence..Cheers Mate!
Actually ... im not a metallica fan but theres a video of kirk in the 90s playing one handed too you could still search it, people need to stop comparing which musicians are "better" than others...
Yet, you dont see Guthrie selling out stadiums at the same volume as Metallica. The truth is that most people perfer something that is easy to remember and not necessarely more musically genious.
Kirk is a brilliant guitarist.. but comparing him to Guthrie is strange and pointless. It's like comparing a 100m sprinter who has a PB of 9.95 seconds against Usain Bolt. They are also performing for different purposes. People are watching Guthrie specifically for his guitar playing, so 99.9% accuracy is the standard he must adhere to when performing live. Kirk is a component in a band, and as long as the overall song is great, that's the the standard - it's the same with most rock bands.
Every time I watch something new from him it contains a new talent, creation, or impression. Would love to see him play with Bireli Lagrene, Tommy Emmanuel, Frank Vignola, or Stochelo Rosenberg
its amazing how much you improve after practicing with one hand... especially if you then proceed to do this on an acoustic with higher action... your dexterity and strenght triples in a matter of weeks Drop that: "I should sell my guitar" whining and practice people!

He didn't even kill Clapton this was just my way of praising him because he's amazing but guys like Clapton, Jeff Beck and so many others are every bit as good as Guthrie if not better because you see merit is not solely based on technical prowess, it's based on creativity, it's based on developing a very specific style of playing that encompasses creativity, technique, some speed and a whole lot of feeling so your comment is very very wide of the mark.
Purple Haze actually, technical proficiency is what defines a good guitar player. bending and vibrato and all that shit are part of technique.
and objectively speaking, people like Clapton and Beck don't even come close to Guthrie.
oh my god people shut up. music is not a contest. stop bitching over who you think is better or whether guthrie is good or sucks. it's not a damn contest, stop pretending like your opinion is the be all and end all of musical facts. you're missing the ENTIRE point of music and art when you think that way.
Preach it dude!
Those must be some great pickups!
That's a great left hand ;-)
Kirk Hammett couldn't do that in 3 lifetimes
lol Kirk Hammet can only learn his own guitar parts.
Kirk's also probably a better writer. 'One' anyone?
Guthrie is a monster!!!! i recorded the aristocrats debut CD and i tell you, he blew my mind
Nice!
Sometimes it feels like this guy doesn't play music, but music plays him.
Damn it Guthrie! You incredible guitarist you!
Now try to play it only with right hand :P
I swear Guthrie Govan is Jesus in disguise! not a very good disguise though because Guthrie really looks like Jesus XD
+Sam Kaplan all he did was grow a beard, curl his hair a bit, and start talking with a british accent lol

Every time I watch something new from him it contains a new talent, creation, or impression. Would love to see him play with Bireli Lagrene, Tommy Emmanuel, Frank Vignola, or Stochelo Rosenberg
And the 23-4 year old Italian youngster that's tearing it up.

its amazing how much you improve after practicing with one hand... especially if you then proceed to do this on an acoustic with higher action... your dexterity and strenght triples in a matter of weeks
Drop that: "I should sell my guitar" whining and practice people!
