@Avulex Well, maybe for the person at the 1:46 mark who collides full speed, but realize, it's easy to sit at the keyboard and judge. This isn't the Olympics or the World Cup, for one. And even there, you have crashes, even more so due to the speed & pressure, look at Bolshunov just recently - on a flat straightaway - and tripping on his own skis - "Russia’s Alexander Bolshunov (center) takes an untimely tumble with 100 meters to go in the first men’s semifinal of the 1.5 k classic sprint at the Ski Tour 2020 on Saturday in Trondheim, Norway. " Anyway, the beauty of races like this is that it is a citizens race. For the American Birkebeiner, you need to have a qualifier race, so I imagine they have the same for the Vasaloppet, so these folks can all ski, no question. Not everyone has the luxury of practicing on hills, so certainly the slower waves, you'll have people wiping out even on easy hills. Also note that this is likely close to the finish judging by the folks sporting icicles on their beards, and further, as you can see, this is a fairly steep hill. Should they be there? Hell yes. Off Track is a great inspirational movie right to the end credits! It introduced me to Vasaloppet - an annual 90km ski race in Sweden. The movie covered most of life’s significant emotions in one short film. Well worth watching ⛷️ 👍
Some genius track builder decided to put double polling tracks on a steep downhill in a race with 1000s of people, thin skate skis are hard to get out of the groves at speed, if this track was just flat you wouldn’t have these problems. Organiser should take the same hit as that poor lady.
Samuel Bossé everybody knows hills look less steep on camera, Skate skis and classic skis in this situation are basically the same. If these are beginners my point is more proven. The fast people at the front may be fine but you gotta have a duty of care to protect everyone, it’s like not wrapping trees in downhill mountain biking because you don’t think the good riders will hit them.
@@user300daad00dwa Actually the track is groomed that way for the elite waves. Skiing out of the tracks on long fast downhills is a great way to tear off almost all your kickwax by about kilometer 55...

That's amazing. Wish I could read the comments. So many people without basic skills. It's actually pretty easy to tell who is going to fall and who is not, just by body language. What's with the guy on alpine equipment at 3:52 ?
Cross country skiing is 100000000 Times harder in a downhill then regular skiing. It`s super easy to fall. Even a pro fall all the time. And they are probaly tired. Vasaloppet takes 8 hours for most people. But for some people it takes 12 hours. Cross country skiing is very hard and you need much more strength then in regular skiing. Sorry for my bad english
izraigo: This was filmed about 35k into the race near the Risberg aid station based on the title. So, 1/3 of the way through the race. Ellen Lindberg: English speaking countries have worldloppet sanctioned races too. If I were in shape to ski a 90km race I would hope I could do downhills a little better than that. Where I live, if there is a hill steep enough to be considered hazardous the groomers do not set tracks on it for safety reasons. Sorry for being an American I guess?
