    After going cross country skiing with my Finnish girlfriend for the first time, I was so so bad, I kept falling over and sliding backwards up hills. Determined to not embarrass myself again

      I know how you feel ! They make it look so easy. Terrifying, sliding backwards down a hill, lol. Taking a turn is also a vital skill that I have yet to learn. Great fun though, and super exercise.

    Thanks for the well-done video. I'm taking my active, coordinated husband on his first skate ski this week. We followed your video in the house, trying out all of the techniques in our socks. : ) Hoping he'll feel more confident approaching this new sport and enjoy it as much as I do (or at least moderately). I find skate skiing much more natural than classic skiing.

    I'm a Wisco resident who has only ever done classic cross country skiing (3 times). I ambitiously signed up for the American Birkebeiner (50K) skate ski and have gotten zero practice in due to no snow. Hoping we get dumped on so I can learn before race day!

    Another good video. Yet most REI really don't carry XC gear unless your in CO, MN or WI. Order my gear from a XC shop instead.

  • @АлександрТопорков-й5х

    Nice guide for absolute beginners. Greg, can you move by one-step-style? I.e. pull on every step?

    Do you have any close up on skate skis? I'm trying to learn the difference between skate skis and classic are the bindings different?

    • @greg_rhodes
      @greg_rhodes 3 года назад +2

      Please look at our other video about XC gear here for more information about the difference between classic and skate skis: ruclips.net/video/3rHuEqZgUMc/видео.html. The bindings are only very slightly different and this has more to so with the rubber number at the front of the binding (classic bindings have a slightly softer bumper). For many bindings, this bumper can be changed by a ski shop if needed.

    Hi Greg, My height is 167cm, which ski suites best for skating. I have 180 cm which I think is bigger than I need, TIA.

    • @evicaf4e
      @evicaf4e 2 года назад

      Your skis for skating should be between your height to 10 cm taller. My instructior told me, that the longer the skis, the less effort. But yes, 180 cm is far to big for you, I would recomend around 175 cm for you. Also try to ask some other people to get more informations and then decide

    I don't like the way you pick up your power side. You're prematurely ending your glide. It should be more of a snap of the power side, not a lifting of the ski.
