- Joel Salatin is an American farmer, lecturer, and author whose books include You Can Farm and Salad Bar Beef. Salatin raises livestock using holistic methods of animal husbandry, free of potentially harmful chemicals, on his Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Salatins 550-acre farm is featured prominently in Michael Pollans book, The Omnivores Dilemma and the documentary film, Food, Inc.

What Salatin says flies in the face of Mother Nature or God. If his fields were not grazed then in just about 15 years young trees will dominate as part of Nature's successive. The herbivore prevents that.

If you can understand the problem with my preceding quote, you'll understand why it's futile to hope a new/different/better president will help America. Now or in a hundred years. Don't rely on Joel Salatin for your farming. BECOME > JOEL SALATIN! Don't delegate your responsibilities. Don't delegate food production, child education, or civil governance. Self govern.
Brilliant! Too bad this wasn't posted on the regular TedTalks channel - it would have received all of the exposure that it deserves.

If you either consume or are thinking about raising chickens, then this will be time well spent.
Would encourage you to watch some of Joel's other videos, especially those showcasing his large mobile chicken tractors. You should be able to locate thise by keying in Polyface Farm or Joe Salatin.

This man is wise. We need more wise people like him handling our food, and less government that gets bought and paid by monsonto, big pharma, and the EPA. The FDA and USDA is rife with previous employees from monsonto and big pharma, and we're supposed to believe that's not a conflict of interest? Should be illegal and that fact that it's not, is proof it's intentional because that is so clearly dangerous. Prescription drugs are the 4th leading cause of death now, and that's not good enough for them. They have to drug our animals too?

Excellence in Eggtastic Expression. I
I first read about this marvelous farmer in Michael Pollen's "Omnivores...". The question is, how does someone who embraces the sacredness of life with this truthful story get to have his story placed in front of the story full of lies that corporate america tells? The Monsanto story for instance, which tells us this old way of farming will "never feed the growing population, etc, etc, etc", gets full billing. If I see one more Monsanto ad in a progressive national magazine, I'll vomit.

Sounds to me like the kind of thing a capitalist society would do.
Actually, yes, we can understand capitalism as a consequence of an anthropocentric culture, coming from the ideas of Abrahamic religions (men above nature, instead of part of it). Realising, then, that feedlots, industrial agriculture and so on are very fond to the ideas of maximize economic profits (specially short-term ones) at any cost, that come directly from Capitalism and they are destroying the world.
It's simply logical to have that kind of disastrous agri-food systems in this hegemonic socio-economic system we live in.
