      Exactly what I was thinking. The left 4, pretty fizzy, which is something I don't like. Like a fizz that sits on top of everything. The right 4 were much better without the fizzy. I was expecting a different sound out of the Tube Screamer. I heard Billy Gould from Faith No More used a, I'm guessing, regular tube screamer. This video definitely helped me narrow down the options for me. Will be looking into the Right 4 more. Great vid!

    This is the kind of demo that deserves thousand views and a long life.
    Right now I would buy the EBS. Not the most spectacular tone, but all the sounds I hear from it are good. And I love the simplicity.
    The Nobel's tone is rich and deep. I agree about the practicallity of the Battalion, I owned it for a few times but sold it because the tone disapointed me a bit.

      Thanks Nicolas! Yeah the ebs is great! Plenty low end… The latest studio version is even better quality than the one tested in this video but the sound is identical. Soon we will test the ananashead bass drive, another “simple” OD that sounds really yummy. You’ll see 😉.

  • @frankricca6173
    @frankricca6173 2 года назад +2

    I remember your review of the Digitech bass driver and believe you pointed out that the dry and wet signals seem to coexist and not quite blend together which I thought was a great observation. In the sound samples with the backing track, i was surprised the disparity between the wet/dry didn't seem apparent to my ears, and the pedal seemed to cut through the mix very well with decent clarity.

    • @thewetterbass
      @thewetterbass  2 года назад

      Yep. Because the low end is there to save the day, kind of… but it’s true that in a mix the “two layers” thing I mention about pedals like the digitech or the Boss ODB-3 for example might not matter that much. But I think it limits the pedal’s sonic possibilities, especially with the Boss, because it’s hard to set a gentle saturation to warm up the sound without being a bit too much on the aggressive side. Does it make sense? 😅 I mean, so many drive pedals excel at both low and high gain…

  • @daniellemeyer5159
    @daniellemeyer5159 3 года назад

    I saw the EBS video a couple weeks ago and I loved the sounds you got from it. Especially the lower gain stuff. So I looked for an original EBS just like yours. It arrived last Saturday. It is even better IRL. If I had waited till today's video I might have picked the ODR -B or the Maxon. But I literally picked the EBS even after hearing the older videos of the ODR and Maxon drives and I am so happy with the combo of my fretless, a Diamond bass compressor, and this EBS, that I'm done looking for OD.
    Almost done picking pedals for my new first proper pedal board. I'm still trying to find the right stereo chorus. Ooh do those next! Your reviews are fantastic as we get to hear the pedals in context of how they are realistically used. Thanks a bunch.

    • @thewetterbass
      @thewetterbass  3 года назад +1

      Hi Danielle! Well, I’m glad the videos were decisive in your decision. The “feel” of a pedal is always slightly different IRL than what you hear on the videos. Though I try hard to make it sound as real as possible, it’s only when you try the pedal with your rig that you know if it works for you or not.
      About chorus: if you want a good stereo chorus for bass, you should go for something like the Walrus Julianna. I have to check cheaper good sounding alternatives. I’m also looking for one, though I do enjoy using my boss ce-2b (mono)…

    • @daniellemeyer5159
      @daniellemeyer5159 3 года назад

      @@thewetterbass Thanks I'll check that one out. I liked the CE-2B as a mono pedal but I really love the spatial effect of running a true stereo chorus. I have the Mr.Black Vintage Ensemble right now and it does what I want chorus wise and is a really cool pedal but it scoops the mids out of my tone and mids are super important for me on fretless so I'm still looking.

      @@thewetterbass Lately I'm finding myself wanting more "body" in my bass sound, because it's the key to being heard in a guitar-dominated mix. My favorite tone recently has been the Broughton Audio Azure Drive (Bluberry Bass Overdrive copy) with the tone set for low end and mids. When I'm playing in a band with two distorted guitars and yet can still actually hear the notes I'm playing, even the ones further up the neck, I'm happy...
      Also, I just got to this point in your ODR-B video: I dunno if anybody ever explained it, but the remote switch input on the ODR-B is for connecting a separate footswitch to activate the effect. @@thewetterbass Read on another comment someone sold theirs because of the tone. Are you able to match the MultiDrive tone with all the tweaking options on the Batallion? Have you tried the Nano Overlord? I want to battle those two to my EBS and if I can get the tones + however many others it'll be down to the sound of the overdriven sound. Both have EQ and distortion + a Blend knob, so I'm guessing it would be achievable(?)

    • @thewetterbass

      It could be, however I do not have the battalion to confirm. The dirt is less “compact” with “cab sim” effect in the battalion than on the ebs which on the other hand is a bit better for low gain distortion. Battalion doubles and a preamp amp, so… same tones?
