In this part of our workshop/interview, Satchel talks about the invention of heavy metal and his favourite riffs of Ratt. / In diesem Teil unseres Interviews, erzählt uns Satchel über die Erfindung des Heavy Metal und seine Lieblings-Ratt-Riffs.
this guys really is a comical genius...." I always try to be a bigger man you know...thats why like, everytime we have another guitarist i fire him you know"
The part where he says " I always try to be the bigger man" ....In the Rebecka Dirk interview, it's ridiculously funny all the way through, He mentions being on an airplane putting his guitar in the overhead, and the story proceeds with "i'm bigger than that." Gotta watch it. Satchel brings out the fun in Rebecka, she just rolls with it, very cool of her and of course him. Enjoy the music.
The way he strikes the strings is stellar! Clean yet full of conviction and character. Probably one of the most competent players in the industry for sure. That Tiger Woods-riff is up there on my top favorite riffs!
He's just so laid back and hilarious. That, and he's a fucking legend. Anyone who plays with Gilbert is a legend.
Honestly I could listen to that Tiger Woods riff all day on a loop. It’s absolutely beautiful. You put serious lyrics on that (vs 9 irons and double penetration) and it would have been a classic. Satchel and SP forever!
Agreed. I love that riff
The Ratt song is "Lay It Down". It's fun to play. Most people on youtube play it a little different than Satchel. (using barré chords and doing some stretching)
He is so funny. I like watching him play. He nailed that Ratt "Lay it down" intro riff
I like this guy .thats how modern education at school should be “non boring super funny and inspiring “!
"Ah its panther not panda"..."Panda's can be pretty mean though they'll just rip your face right off" that had me laughing so much it was INCREDIBLE!
they don't take themselves serious. It's a fun band. That's what makes them so appealing to me. They make good music, fun and a entertaining show. I'm usually not a metal fan especially because there are so many bands who wear weird and stupid costumes, sing disturbing lyrics etc and take themselves serious doing that. I really enjoy Steel Panther though.
That, my friend, is "Lay it Down", although he is playing it unconventionally
God he pulls off lay it down so clean and nicely
Right. That's not easy to play with the string skipping, chugging that low d string
Man I wish Satchel was my guitar teacher. He's so cool.
Dude,u are a BADASS guitarist, one of the best, and funny as fuck,a legend in the making
He played Lay it Down open like I do , Cool !!!!!
"We have a lot in common... " about van halen is so hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
I almost pooped in my pants when he referred to ancestors as metal heads! freaking funny x)
hahaha... and how he start talking nonsense shit just like that
ps: "I'm still out of tune but still sound good... or maybe I was in tune, I don't know, I cant tell, my ears are gone cause I'm in my 50s now and played music for a long time" this guy is epic! I'm speechless
satchel so fukn awesome
if someone want to know what riff he play it's Ratt - Lay It Down
+panssacz hahahaha you are the best!
"when Van Halen came out I was like 25 years old" HAHAHAHAH
"Im sure that was invented by dinosaurs or some shit..." :')
I knew he was going to play "Lay it down"
I'm the One & Ain't talkin' bout love and Lay It Down of Ratt

"All about attitude."
Fuckin, aye, dude!!! Woo! Steel Panther fucking rocks! \
/

This guy completely opened up Satchel's nerd side! How fucking awesome is that :D
Love this guy! He's so right about the BS that's in the metal creed,he just plays along and has fun!
Steel Panda ROCKS!
Satchel is my hero!
At 3:49 , the riff sounded like the intro to Paul Gilbert's 'To be with you' metal version in 'Guitar Wars' concert. ^_^

5:39 Lay it Down!! Hell yeah!
Good interview !
Cheers man.
it's the other way round ;) the song in called "ain't talkin' bout love" by Van Halen and Paul used it for his metal version ;)
Omg... New fav guitarists and hes got a personality hes fuckin funny
He actually has the swing when he's playing I'm the one. Very few people can do that. Damn.
"like back in the stoneage.... when there were dinosaurs and shit...." XDXDXDXDXXXDDD
even without eyeliner, great teacher.
"I mean he didn't invent it, it was probably invented by dinosaurs or something!" haha fucking satchel

He completely drops character when talking about Van Halen haha
Satchel You're Fucking Funny As Hell
Lay It Down
I need to know what amp he's using in this vid
7 years later do you find what amp is it? Sound great!

The riff is from "Hang 'Em High".
That wasn't Hang 'em high. It was I'm the one.

What is that 2nd Van Halen song he plays?
I love how the interviewer just keeps getting distracted

Ain't Talkin bout Love
"just like tiger woods" from their Balls Out album
"I like to be the bigger person. So that's why when there is another guitarist in the band, I always fire him."
whats name of that song he plays at 3:50 ?
Sorry, It's from "I'm The One"
Whats the name of the song of 5:40???🎸🤘🤘🤘🎸
Satchel Rules!!!!!!!!!!!
1:45-1:55 Stone age was NOT metal age, dude! But could have been stoner rock.
For curiosity: dinosaurs: Triassic period, between 243 and 233.23 million years ago; the Stone Age: two million years ago. The Bronze Age: around 1700 BCE followed by the Iron Age.
Van Halen - Aint talking bout love
tbh theyre not really bringing anyting "new to the plate" but hey theyre still fucking awesome.
Ben Stiller sure knows how to play guitar.
what's the song playing at the beginning?
what's the opening song???
and the first?
Hell yeah now Thats Attitude!
Which song is the rithim at 0:45 ???
Props to Russell for being cool and staying in character, while obviously bored and annoyed with this interviewer.
Good interview, will probably watch again. I might form a band called the Steel Turtles with 2 friends I know, we just need instruments and a female singer to rock the lyrics. Will see.
rat tune...lay it on down?...maybe?
what ratt song is that? anybody ?
omg........ "Steel Panda"... never laught so hard... hahaha
I'm The One by Van Halen

Hitting them harmonics at 3:55 for fun
He was one of the Paul Gilbert's "students" :))
Wtf is that song at 4:10???
Hey satchel do sweet home Alabama
I laughed about 50 times watching this fucker, he's funny (as well as a shredding guitar player)
I now know how to be successful. VIBRATO!
The Vibrato!!!!! don't forget the fucking vibrato!!! hahaha.
If he was overly attached to someone......they would be the luckiest person in the world
I'm...I'm so jealous of your profile pic right now :(
"Steel Pandas" LOL
IF you like steel panther, checkout Stone trigger, cry on
He said "Dinosaur Times"..... Close Enough.
genius

He's in his 50s?!?!?! :O
At least he's havin fun, probably more so than a lot bands, who are serious, but bring nothing new to the plate, they usually suck. and their serious
Sometimes Satchel's face looks like the "Over attached girlfriend" ahah!
