Many good comments about moisture in the system. I also agree with checking how close the brake lines are to hot exhaust parts. One I didn’t see is pulling the parachutes before applying the brakes. I don’t know how much air space is in your brake fluid reservoir, but if the fluid is a little low and you pull the chutes, you might uncover the intake port on the master cylinder and push air into the system.
One way the old DOT3 fluid was better was that a little water didn't boil an push all the fluid out. But it was nasty stuff that ate paint, held on to water and corroded everything it touched. I have always wondered why we never came up with something that could just slightly raise the boiling point when contaminated that was not as awful as DOT3.
Good thought with the moisture and all that. BUT if this was the problem, he should have made FULL pressure when he initially hit the brakes. Then they would begin to fade. They will not act like they did in his case because he already had no pressure when he stepped on it. So the problem was already there before the end of the pass. You might be right with uncovering the port of the master cylinder. Although I don't think it was because of the parachutes. It probably was the other way round. Fluid gets pushed back through the acceleration. Depending on the design of the reservoir and if the port is in the middle of the reservoir or at the front. If the port is located in the middle, it can get uncovered by pulling the chutes , but the fluid level would need to be extremely low. I think it's more likely to uncover it under acceleration when you have the port at the front of the reservoir. But I assume the FIRST THING he did after he went rallying was to CHECK THE RESERVOIR. So he's probably right about the residual brake pressure causing him to drag the brakes all the way down the track. That caused his fluid to boil before he even stepped on the pedal. I'm almost sure the tbm rotors are just machined flat. OEM's manufacture their rotors with a little runout to push the pads away from the rotor when you'r not using the brake. Without this runout the piston gasket would be the only thing that pulls piston and pad away from the rotor. If the whole assembly is not absolutely 100% new and clean then the gasket will not have enough force to pull everything away from the rotor. Maybe there was moisture involved, but first of all there shouldn't be 17psi of brake pressure when he's going down the track. Especially with flat machined rotors that are not ventilated!

We ran a 3 1/2 hour endurance race - brakes get very hot and once they are hot a few times it caused fade but a quick bleed & top off at the track or full fluid change once home solved the issue
This is not a fade problem because he didn't have brake pressure. Sounds like the master cylinder let the fluid go by the seals. I would replace it and flush the system.

Kinda crazy Cleetus had a no parachute issue a few years ago when he did a pass in Tom Bailey's car and now in your own car you get the parachute but no brakes. Just glad that nothing seriously bad came out of that situation. Sounds like some water might have gotten into the system and that boiled off causing air in the lines
A stuck shoe or pad could have super heated the break at that speed. (not an expert but had something similar) Edit: This could have happend during the burnout, with the line lock on you would not have noticed.
Brake fluid is weird in the fact that the higher the DOT number will increases the boiling point of the fluid. The draw back is that it becomes more hygroscopic. Basically it absorbs water out of the air. Since your car has been down for a while it has absorbed a ton of water out of the air. Also most painter run a high humidity in their booths. If you take a race car out of storage always DNR the fluid or drive at low speed for a while to boil the water out of the fluid be before you life counts on the brakes.
DOT 5 is Silicone based, and is hydrophobic. That's not to say that there might not be water in the system, just that, if there is any, it will be free. Whatever, it will boil faster than the brake fluid, turn to steam and affect brake performance ... but not as much as boiling brake fluid will.

Either that or the extreme wheel speed is pushing pads out during the run, doesn't explain why they didnt come back after he pumped them.

I’ll do you one better, standard car, you tell me why hoses are ribbed and I’ll believe you.
I'd assume he's running metal brake lines, I don't see those collapsing. Maybe he boiled the fluid or has an issue with the master or the pushrod. Is he running dot 3 or something with a higher boil point?
Id start with the soft line at the passenger side front brake, could have pin holes in it spraying fluid, and that one hose will make the pedal drop
"Hey, You can't park there" LOL🤣stay safe my friend
That was hilarious
I know a few people who don't swear but when they are racing and something goes wrong they all swear
Well done steve for not swearing even though the paint was in serious danger
Skinny knows his stuff, listen to him!! I really appreciate Steve’s integrity, and the fact he shares a ton of tips tricks and data with us. He’s not top secret squirrel about it….. and that SMX where you can take the heads off while leaving the intake, we’ve needed that for 90 years!!!!!
Dude that little truck was impressive off the line. Wasn’t expecting that at all.
That little truck holds the stick shift world record
@@nickpopelka ya that thing was faster than shit off the lineb
That S10 was scootin'! Had me taking notice
You been letting Cleetus work on your car?
If C and crew worked on the car, it would have looked like John Force's fireball and crash at the 2024 NHRA Virginia Nationals
Probably Tom since he picked on him earlier.. LoL

@@Don_Rodrigo44 C breaks stuff on purpose in order to get subs and clicks. Apparently you are falling for it.
I hope Mr. Cleetus is paying attention to what Steve just said about the "Big Boy" top fuel parachutes cause his Eagle gonna be just that fast too! Thanks for that 411 Steve!
Bigger parachutes are going to put a lot more force on the mounts, just make sure the new set-up can take the greater force.
He most likely didn’t think of that…🙄
@@jesimss I know he is a very smart guy, just trying to help. Sometimes when the plans change, a simple detail can be overlooked.
Way to be condensing.
That's what a true queen does anticipates what her king needs. Great couple. Lmao
“You can’t park there!” Freakin AWESOME!
Everyone is an "eXpErT" nowadays. Steve is the man and leaves no stone unturned. He's racing a 4000+ HP car and things WILL break. You don't have to watch his channel very long at all to get a real strong sense of his attention to detail. If there's a box to check, you can be certain Steve will double triple check that mother trucker. Keep doing your thing Steve. Consummate professional and inspiration. Cheers.
Brother, your wife absolutely Loves you. You can see how healthy your marriage is when at a stressed moment she can pop off a funny like that, and make you smile. its obvious your in Love with her too, I think that is very cool ❤.
Steve’s gotta be the nicest chillest dude out there in the heat of the moment says mother trucker I would of been saying a lot more than that 😂
I never seen angry Steve!! lol! sounded a bit like Ned Flanders!!
BTW main selling point of the TBM breaks are that they release completely and do not drag if I am not wrong. Well it is racing, something always gets discovered and solved after it. I bet soon wagon will be breaking better than ever. I am pretty sure Motion Raceworks/TBM people are going to take care of Steve.
Pretty sure Steve doesn't want it "breaking" 😂
No, the selling point is they don't warp under extreme heat and can still stop heavy cars without chutes in an emergency lol
@mjay6245 well I am pretty sure I have heard this from the horses mouth. Or might be the giraffes mouth. 😀 Who know he knows. Considering that the animal in question is part owner and very clever man, I believe him. It's not the only selling point either. Your points are very valid as well. But that doesn't negate this point.
I love the comments on the mother trucker self control. As a fellow non swearer it really is not hard. You also get to come up with a whole vocabulary of alternative words.
My dad said growing up that swearing is a sign of a limited vocabulary.
They design the track, with the “ trap”
For exactly that reason.
Glad you’re safe. Steve
No way!! 🤯😂
Love your videos Steve, good job getting it shut down and still being here to make more great vids.
this man is so amazing, thank you to you and your lovely family for sharing your time with all of us.
No brakes at 200+ and Steve's all "Fiddlesticks and botheration!"* as he heads into the sand trap. Amazing restraint. I'd have made up a few new curse words if that had been me! Also some top level spousal banter from Mrs Morris there. Top drawer stuff.

Good job Val. Too funny.

Somethin about them Michigan boys 🤣🤣🤣
He'll she is a true racer find humor in racing mishap. Pure Gold.
The sea may get a little rough, but you're lucky to have Val there to steady the boat. I'm impressed that you have the self-control to restrict yourself to some pretty mild comments as you come to a stop in the sand.
Not a trailer queen show car Steve it's one bad ass mother wagon!! Glad your good Steve!!
"Can't park here" shirts incoming.
for a limited time, includes handful of rocks!
That S.M. logo on the new parachutes would be some great advertising.
Glad to see you came out safely!!! See when you park in no parking area you get towed! Call Cleetus if you need a Tow!!! So lucky motor still didn’t get a mouthful!!! those turbos don’t just instantly stop spinning when you hit the shut off button.
Steve when you married Val you are the one who got the diamond!
proof Steve is a good Christian man. never looses his tongue even in the heat of the moment 🙏
Cursing is not a sign of anything. Silly mortal
Definitely, something I've been working towards.
@@bigvegass Actually it is, read Eph, Gal, and the epistles of both John and James, (especially James), as he talks specifically about the tongue/speech.
Hope this is helpful, (Num 6:24-26).
God has never pulled my chutes or worked on my car. Good luck with that
@@jamesb9300 That's the problem though isn't it, the willingness to accept God's Word and by extension Him or do you continue to lean on your own understanding and the imaginations of men, (Genesis 8:21, Psalm 14:1, Psalm 92:6, Psalm 111:10, Proverbs 18:2, Proverbs 27:22), and many such verses in Scripture.

So many options for active driver cooling. From 300$ to 8000$. Even twin systems for driver and navigator/passenger.
In road racing motorcycles - we ran a full synthetic brake fluid and learned to change & or bleed the brakes after every weekend due to fade issues
The only time I've ever had "brake issues" was after a tank slapper at 125 on my Z1b back in '80. Once I got the wobble under control, I realized I was going to miss my exit off the freeway and hit the front brakes. Nothing! Wish I had a picture of my face at that moment. My seat had a permanent crease from the pucker factor of a lifetime. 17-year-old me was a danger to myself and everybody else on the road. Good times! (kinda funny that Good Times Kawasaki was where the bike was purchased in Sacramento, CA)
Hmm
We ran a 3 1/2 hour endurance race - brakes get very hot and once they are hot a few times it caused fade but a quick bleed & top off at the track or full fluid change once home solved the issue
@@stevemorrisracingas has already been said glad your ok . But hey flush that system out with new fluid
This is not a fade problem because he didn't have brake pressure. Sounds like the master cylinder let the fluid go by the seals. I would replace it and flush the system.
Steve ,thank you for the knowledge, I can see you're tired and your still going strong.God speed and have fun
Steve is never more interesting when he talks unless something isn't right.

Glad you’re alright same with the body 😉 😂
Kinda crazy Cleetus had a no parachute issue a few years ago when he did a pass in Tom Bailey's car and now in your own car you get the parachute but no brakes. Just glad that nothing seriously bad came out of that situation. Sounds like some water might have gotten into the system and that boiled off causing air in the lines
He had a parachute problem with Mullet too, didn't he?
@@fartzinacan now that you bring it up I think he
Doesn't Cleetus make Steve's brakes?

He did. And as with Tom's car, it was down to the chutes having been packed for too long.

Way to Go Stevo!! Transmission tunnel looks awesome.. just My personal opinion of experience .. Never Not Run A tunnel!!! Great Upgrade Brotha!!
Whats up with you guys and parking there.
A stuck shoe or pad could have super heated the break at that speed. (not an expert but had something similar) Edit: This could have happend during the burnout, with the line lock on you would not have noticed.
Steve is so mother trucking awesome. 😂Kuddos to you sir for keeping the channel PG.
Someone mentioned that new “Mother Trucker” and “You Can’t Park There” t-shirts should be in the works.😂
In 1968 I had a '57 Ford that had occasional vanishing brakes. Wish i could remember what we did to fix it. Amazing what you can forget in 55+ years.
Best thing she could say to you at the moment. She knows you well, understands racing, and loves you. Great story, glad you and the car are okay.

just glad you're ok Steve! keep on truckin my man!
As always love the honesty and all the information. Keep it coming!
you can say what ya want about steve, he explains everything so well, i love listening to the guy, stay safe brotha
+10,000 cool points to The Sugar Momma!!! 😂😂😂
Glad your ok. Great video! Love that everything is explained so well. Take Care :)

Clean save Steve. Looked to be brake smoke for sure. That residual brake pressure at over 200mph would cause some serious heat/ smoke. Been there in my one ton hauling a loaded 40ft gooseneck down a mountain pass. Trailer brake controller fuse popped so only had truck brakes, and slowing from about 80mph to 40mph in maybe 20 seconds was enough my pads smoked and pedal was going further and further to the floor. Glad you're okay man
Steve your composure is incredible......i would have had to bleep the sound out while I invented new noises and swear words
I love your set-up the wagon is awesomeness
weep hole is covered, causing the brakes to drag, causing overheating make sure the piston on the master is all the way back.
brakes hung and faded?? that is absolutely strange they could work just fine on the way back to the pits. glad the car, and more importantly, YOU are okay! thanks for another video steve, love em!
