Nope, there's even an older version by James "Iron Head" Baker (1933 Library Of Congress-label). Leadbelly's version was from 1935. And ... the version of Ram Jam isn't even original. The guitarist played in a band called Starstruck, which recorded Black Betty four years earlier. The short version we know is a cut-up version of THAT version. Even this extended cover here sounds more like the original Starstruck version.

Then all of a sudden that crazy guitar, bass and drums blew my fckn mind! A bunch of city kids just started moshing in the middle of club luv dancin... a true masterpiece of music right here. Long live Whooaaah black Betty!!!
Sounds like he went back to the original Starstruck 45 and made an extended version of that. The original version by Starstruck was 4:43, the Ram Jam version (an edited version of Starstruck's) was 2:24 and this one is 7:10. Looking on Wikipedia I guess this version was actually released in 1990 and hit the top 20 in the UK.
If I could play the guitar like this I would sit in my room all the time and do nothing else.
