      The Jets don't need nostalgia they just need good coaches who know what they are doing not because they love the Jets. You think Bill Parcells loved the Jets coming first from the Giants and then the Patriots? Rex would be a disaster even if at first the team played better eventually he would wear out his welcome. Are jets fans just gluttons for punishment?

    I'm OK with Rex Ryan being coach of the Jets in 2025 on the conditions that:
    A) Aaron Rodgers is not on the Jets in 2025
    B) The Jets go back to the Ground & Pound Offense
    Rex Ryan & Aaron Rodgers together would be as toxic as Andre Rison & Left Eye Lopez......

    • @njlauren
      @njlauren 6 часов назад +2

      Ground and pound in the 2025 NFL won't work, that is part of the negative on rex or was, that he lived in the Trent dilfur era where of you had a great defense and ran ground and pound you could win a Superbowl. I think the running game has been severely under rated by the anawienies, Barclay in Philly is making hurts look much better than he is. But rex for example never had offenses throwing to the rbs.
      Obviously he could change, ground and pound is 1960s NFL.

      No, they throw the ball too. Harbaugh isn't known for ground and pound and both teams have a vertical game. There is a difference between ground and pound and a balanced run/ pass team.the 68 Jets were exactly that, after throwing for 4k yards in 67 bc the rbs were injured, the game plan was balanced ( it didn't help Namath threw a couple of 5 pick games&ewbank threatened to bench him) and it is how they won the superbowl.
      Ground and pound is basically unbalanced, it is run over pass and w ferocious defense. It is how Ravens won the 2000 Superbowl.

    • @Marcello2005
      @Marcello2005 2 часа назад

      @ alright well it’s not like Rex is gonna run on every single offensive play. Don’t forget that we invested a pretty penny in the receiver position during our two year run. I’m not saying we 100% should hire Rex but he already acknowledged he would have to change things from last time.

    • @njlauren
      @njlauren 2 часа назад +1

      @Marcello2005
      Yeah he would, if he has any kind of self awareness..for example, I loved that rex loved to blitz ( sort of the opposite to Saleh with his cover 3 zone crap) ,but he would do it so much opposing teams knew it was coming and would put rbs and receivers into the vacated space and burn the Jets.
      He would need a really good offensive coaching staff ( this was the man who hired sperano and also kept schottenheimer ) and he would need to be heavily involved with all facets . He had Callahan as his ol coach and westoff as special teams, both brilliant, but his offensive coaches were generally not great and he basically ignores the offense. He also had the same problem Saleh did, he was unreactive when players screwed up for example.
      I put him in the category of he wouldn't be my first choice, but may be open to it. The big thing is having a GM that shares his vision but doesn't let Rex choose the personnel, he was horrible at that,he championed some real losers and drive away vilma and demario davis who became stars.

  • @jonathanpeters1859
    @jonathanpeters1859 3 часа назад +1

    Rex would give the Jets a huge shot of confidence, swagger and toughness which they have sorely missed the last many seasons.
    Rex has a brilliant defensive mind but his antics and footers led to his players also making dumb penalties too.
    I think you're right Ian. I believe Rex wouldn't be so adamant and determined for another chance as head coach of the New York Jets if he didn't truly believe he could do things differently this time.
    Rex bleeds green like the rest of us here. It would be awesome to see him back patrolling the line in his signature sweater vest, white turtle neck and go get 'em style.

    Also: it was Rex's firing from BUFFALO that eventually led to the current Bills Renaissance.

    • @Marcello2005
      @Marcello2005 3 часа назад

      Never did better than 10-6 but literally made it to the AFC championship game twice. As long as you make the playoffs and belong there, it doesn’t really matter whether he went 10-6 or 13-3. It’s nice, but once the playoffs hit it’s just team against team.

    Ian, what you said at the end about other coaches seeing the Jets as a laughing-stock, is exactly why they should bring in Rex. He loves us, and he'll get them playing up. This team needs to be pumped up to play, and needs to show discipline and honestly, basic football technique. Find him a decent OC, and I think it's the right move. We'll still be a joke, but I don't see any serious, experienced coaches coming here next year.

  • @HarlemBornBronxBred
    @HarlemBornBronxBred 5 часов назад +4

    No. That's the problem with the Jets now. Stop running it back, or doing these band-aid fixes. I love Rex. But it's time to move on. Tear it ALL-THE-WAY down and build it back up correctly. A lot of people want Rex back. But remember Rex had TOO MUCH say in matters of personnel decisions and much of the 2 playoff teams he almost took to the Super Bowl were Mangini's players. Once Rex got he and Tannenbaum's guys in, it went down hill. Same thing when he was in Buffalo. Just no. Get a VP of Football Operations that's a buffer between the Johnson brothers, The GM and Front office, and the coaching staff, and let that person cook with his or her own GM, and Coach. No more going back.

    I think Rex Ryan would be a good defensive minded head coach who will adapt and work with the available talent on hand. He'll need a good OC and a good GM to support his ambitions for the team. Against form I think it is possible that Woody might embrace the thought of bringing Rex in, but he'll absolutely get a lowball GM to hamper him and a limited budget for hiring an OIC which means he'll end up with a lowball candidate there too. It seems that Woody just doesn't want a winning team, at least not at the prices victory costs in coaching salaries.

But I expect him to improve upon his failures and his decisions. He's going to be a more open minded and more willing to integrate newer nuances of the game into his coaching style, bring in people who would really help him in today's football. I'm willing to bet that he will have a good structure in place to develop a QB.

    Yes! I’d love to get Rex back. Why are so many people against Rex becoming the next HC of the JETS? I dunno about you, but as a Jets fan, nobody in my entire lifetime has brought us closer to the Super Bowl(TWO years in a row!) than Rex Ryan. More than anyone else, I want Rex. First of all, because of what I just said, and secondly because he WANTS the job! I don’t see any other potential coaches speaking up. To me this is huge. I feel Rex’s passion for this team. That is so important. Especially after this Season. And lastly, because the Jets need a BIG personality as HC. A guy who is going to impose his will on the team, inspire them & demand results. That’s Rex. With his larger than life persona & forceful nature, i believe he can also handle Woody’s meddling better than others. He’s not gonna fold or bend to anyone’s will. Rex just feels right. Get a kick ass OC & perhaps keep Ulbricht as the DC if he wants to stay and we’ll be solid.

    Ian, who do you think he would hire as OC and DC? He would be great in a ceo type role, no play calling in my opinion

    Rex has energy alright, maybe for 1 or 2 years, but, he damn near burned everybody out including himself and he was so glad to leave Woody for the more peaceful and loyal Buffalo Bills. Bought as custom bus with Woody's $$$$ and planted himself on a fairly good team, but, they didn't improve very much at all. NO playoffs, No Super Bowls and only when he left the Bills began to move forward into the consistent division leader they are today. Beware the charming smiles and the cheerleading banter you want to hear, he is VERY clever, but, who will his staff be? Hopefully they will keep their bodies from interfering on kick returns...Is that the attitude JET fans want? Why, if Rex took accountability did coach Tony Sporano and others take most of the blame for his inability to move the team forward? And,FYI, originally Mike Tannenbaum and John Izik were the ones who kept things together, picked the talent and managed the organization, NOT Rex.

    I know I’ll get crushed for this take but I want Daboll as the coach. His stock is down so we may have a shot at him now. I’d like to see Daboll get a chance to draft his own QB and develop him. If there is a legit good option who would take the jets job I’d like to hear it but I don’t think it exists.

    This may only make sense if they decide to bring Rogers and the offensive staff back and Rex installs his defense. If Rogers leaves and they blow it all up then there's no point.

    I double down on what i said yesterday, He loves the Jets and actually wants to be here. THis guy would be exactly what we need. What he needs to do this time is stay away from the Roster though. He made some poor roster choices

    One of the comnenters put it hesr, about the old lover looking better with time.
    I love Rex energy and love for the team, just look at the stiffs who succeeded him, talk about dead fish ( saleh had great word salad, but his all gas no brakes was a joke). Made being a fan fun.
    Not all the post 2010 problems were him, Idzik set out to destroy rex. Idzik holds the distinction of drafting 3 wr that their rookie season didnt catch 1 pass.. and tennenbaum was not a great gm either.
    That said, Rex has big questions,and how much has he learned,?
    -has he finally given up the bullshit defense wins games and the offense only needs to be good enough. It is why he ignored the offense and was oblivious to problems.
    -can he therefore be q CEO hc? Can he give up calling the defense? He is a great defemsive mind , can make players look better than they are, but that isnt enough. We need a hc, not a dc+. Rex is a better dc than saleh ( better able to adjust for sure) but that isnt enough.
    - players played hard for rex and never gave up, that is true. Under rex sauce would have rex's footprints on his butt. Idzik gave him a shit roster and he went 8 and 8.
    But ppl forget rex teams had problems with accountability too. Rex was a bit too much the players coach. There was sloppy o play, but most of it was stupid penalties, his teams were highly penalized and unless my memory fails me, for all his bluster rex on the sidelines or after seemed to hold them accountable either. For a man as outgoing as he was, he was surprisungly sedate w.players,esp in game. Wilkerson got a lot of late hit penalties and the like, and this was long before the current rules. Has he changed?
    - who will be the GM? If Tex gets hired was it the GM or Woody? If not tue GM, it could be idzik 2.0 ( i am not a violent or angry person, but to this day Idzik picture makes me want to light him on fire and put it out with a pair of old fashined metal baseball spike shoes.
    - likewise who is the qb? Rodgers would he toxic, Rex would not be beholden to him the way saleh was .
    There obviously could be a pull to hire rex, ticket sales are in the shitter. Hiring rex would sell more tickets then trying to promote rodgers as the savior or drafting/ hyping a young qb ( the qbs in this draft class are not exciting imo). For fans looking for a coach who seems to care, Rex would be attractive.
    His time out of the game doesnt bother me, he analyzes the nfl for a living and he knows it has moved on.
    Would he be my first choice? No, bc of the questions i have, it would look like a band aid. But then when i hear stiffs like mccarthy and nagy , or eric bienemy, rex would be attractive.

    We need a president of the team to run the entire operation. Curtis Martin is a great choice. We did Rex already. Let’s develop as an organization and keep woody away. The only way the jets will be considered a serious team

    I admit his passion definitely fires me up. But i still am hesitant. If teams wabted as their HC or DC, then thry wouldve by now. He doesnt get many interviews these days, and i take that as a sign honestly.
    I wouldnt mind Rex, hed at least bring energy and fun to the team.
    But im still in the find a coach thats coaching now. Aaron Glenn, Mike Vrabel, Brian Flores, Ben Johnson, Jessse Minter, Kliff Kingsbury, give me one of these guys. But if we choose Rex, im not gonna think, its gonna be worse. Just would be a little hesitant

    We want Rex !! Talent isn’t the problem with this team it’s leadership/ defense and offensive scheme Rex fixes 2 of those problems immediately we then have to hope we find our version of OC Ben Johnson , resign tae keep dodgers together one more year , go get fields reunite him with G5 for the following year we will be set

    I think he’s the perfect bridge coach. The job is not desirable at the moment. Next year will be football purgatory with the state of this current roster. Best case scenario he leads this current roster to a wild card birth and if it’s a disaster you fire him and the roster is better set up for a full rebuild with more financial flexibility and a fresh start for the new guy.

    Gruden head coach with Rex as defensive coordinator? Or Rex's head coach with Gruden as offensive coordinator?... Sign me up for either
