Why did you put those titles? Surely Chopin didn't want titles in his preludes, you should remove them
@@DanieleDerelli
Those titles were described by Hans von Bülow, there are also other titles described by Alfred Cortot.
I do not think I should remove them, after all they are only suggestions, you can give it the title you want or not, it is just a small detail.
This performance was, to me, the pinnacle of the competition. It was amazing to watch it unfold live, and the ending still gives me goosebumps when I watch it. And that is not meant figuratively. I was showing the conclusion to one of my piano students just last week, and we laughed when they popped up on my arms.
it was the best chopin preludes in this competition

The ending like nails in a coffin. Brilliant
He is a master , a genius..Amazing. He leaves me totally speechless...
This performance is truly magic. He manages to bring a beautiful freshness to these well known pieces. So many colours and textures. Amazing. I repeat "truly magic".
Just wow!
Very sensitive, expressive playing with a beautiful singing tone. Bravo, Eric
In my humble opinion this is truly great Chopin.Formidable technique, dynamics, phrasing, poetry, infinite sensitivity.Thankyou for giving Chopin to the world anew..!!
yes. he is truly 1st in this competition
Combines virtuosity with very sensitive playing and this is what makes his performance so special. Very expressive with a beautiful touch makes it as pleasure to listen to Eric. Brilliant performance.
The way he plays the preludes is the one i like best!
Eric! You were my favorite performer in the whole competition!
Eric ! you're Chopin !!
Samuel Levi No, I actually don't think he is Chopin.
@@feeturbule1083 oui oui bagguette
Eric my favorite too!
@@NoahJohnson1810 He might actually be Liszt himself
In my opinion, you are the best Chopin interpreter in the competition. Thank you for your touching playing. I hope I can go to your concert someday!
i do think so~!! he do knows the beauty and essence of chopin
@@chopinhands bruh, lepszego nicku juz nie mogles wymyslic nie?
i dont think personally he is playing for competition, imo he plays to understand and talk with Chopin by playing his music. also he want to show other people his own music
Mr. Lu, I think you are wonderful! You obviously love what you are doing. Thank you for sharing your love of Chopin with the world. God bless you!
One of the best interpreters for this piece! Thank you!
Wonderful performance.
Very refined toucher;he has impressive tone control
No17 best version in the world 😍
Tears run down naturally 、、、、
Incredibly refined version of the 24 Preludes comparing to Trifonov, which is also good. Eric looks blissed out, in a trance. Channeling Chopin, I guess.
Wow! His no. 16 is just incredible. The diminuendo at 26:49 is sublime.
Absolutny Geniusz
Truly beautiful! Words simply cannot tell how touched I was when listening to Eric's playing... Bravo!
Chopin would’ve loved this.
I loved it so much.... **taking a deep breath and smiling**
kwasia!!!! Indeed
Yaw Tandoh weeeja loool
weeeeeja indeed!
Wonderful performance. One of the best. I wonder how he captured the spirit of each prelude.
Dude, this guy smoked this entire cycle. 💨 Packed up No. 16
Simply divine...
Good morning. From Philippines. Drinking coffee while watching
Lot to say about. Just outstanding. Bravo!
Excellent playing! No. 24 bares a striking resemblance to Dang Thai Son's version. Loved the way you fist the last two fff notes as well.
Dang Thai Son is actually Eric's teacher.
😭🙏✨✨✨Bravo, Eric! You are my piano hero! ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
To my ear, Eric's technique is qualitatively different from other pianists in that Eric beautifully articulates each note separately, imbuing it with a life of its own as though it were an independent voice contributing to the vitality of the entire composition. There are a myriad of pianists technically better than Eric, but I do not hear any with Eric's expressive level of individual note articulation and musicality. He is very special.
unbelievably beautiful hands
Chopin at his best
Breathtaking sensitivity and musicality. The intimacy of the performance is absolutely captivating in its form.
Perfected this piece so effortlessly beautiful
Second prelude truly sublime
you're the man
Fantastic
Really enjoyed listening to your prelude. Thank you!
meraviglioso
Wow no. 2 is all I needed to hear to make me stay for the whole cycle. Here we go. 3 is going well… :)
Bravo!!! :D
Wow
bravo
40:38 that is so clever! Holding down the two surrounding notes silently so that he can slam the D with his fist
that is absolutely insane, nice catch.
Perfect
Magnifique !!
Superbe. Ineffable, inégalable.
Sencillamente ¡¡¡GRANDIOSO!!!
Maestro!!!!!🌹💓🌹
Very good!
Bravo 🙂
OMG. I love you. You should have a Patreon Account. I'm sure a lot of people would be happy to be your patreon (like me)
Superb!!
I'm also glad you break the pedal between preludes. I listened to someone else play these preludes on RUclips and he didn't even let the pedal up between most of them. It's fine to play them as a set, but Chopin did not intend them all to be one piece.
With the Schubert impromptus, my pups are thankful to me to play them Eric whom I feel is better. than Horowitz. I am sure with Chopin he is better than Rubinstein. I very seldom take pleasure in listening to Chopin. Eric is an exception. I shall listen to this again. I know only two pianists who play out of their souls. : Eric and Gail Needleman.
Superlativo
Just a little remember: he was 17 at the time.
17:10 "piu lento" ("a bit slower"). For me a highlight of the Preludes..
The judges completely invalidated their own credibility this year. Eric transcended the entire competition, just playing pure Chopin. Shame that only technical fireworks and overdramatic, bangy playing seem to win competitions anymore.
Miracle !
wow very interesting touch
15:28 "okay everyone let your coughs out while you can"
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Your little finger is so long! lucky man
All his fingers are long n beautiful
Prelude no. 18 sounds like a part of the second piano concerto, same key as well 😄
I don't like how RUclips refer the credits. Look at the description, only the no. 1 is relevant.
His phrasing is so well worked out - perhaps too well?
캬
15:26 lol that little coughing pause
At 26:31 I got kicked off of the live chat for too many exclamations of amazement haha

what is the title in 9.00 ? :)

Look, Mrs. Argerich. Look careful. That's how you should play it.
Lol, buffoon
Why the echo in the hall sounds like someone is singing..
the iron fist on the last D amn
I see what you did there
D (a note he hit) amn
Genius bro lol
Looks like he played those three Ds with his fist.
yes, apparently his teacher did as well or so I have heard. It certainly adds to the mood, and it is not my piano, so I cannot complain.
Some lovely playing here. Lu really knows how to make the piano sing; listen particularly to Preludes 9 and 13, though no. 15 plods and the middle section degenerates into bashing. 20 is also thumped (the opening is only forte, for heaven's sake!). And Lu has an uncomfortable habit of fluffing chords in simple passages (listen to 17, for example). Sadly, he misses a few in 19, too (though that's anything but simple!). Still, nice to hear him. Thanks for posting. Now going to compare with Avdeeva in the same pieces ...
I would like permission to use this video in a school project please, as part of the classroom resources. Can you help?
Why does he play all thr preludes if it’s not in the repertoire
11:37 I guess he had to COMPOSE himself. Get it? uh... okay. I'm leaving. HEHE
Wat
lol
I don't get it
Why did he play all of the preludes
