I keep seeing people say things along the lines of "this game shouldn't have even been made, they should stick to updating the current games" I was in a stream on launch day that was sponsored, some of the devs were in chat, they were EXCITED to no end. They just bought the rights to the dungeon defenders franchise, and instead of producing games and content that will make the investors happy they produced something that makes themselves happy. From my perspective this is their way of celebrating, putting out their "first big thing" Personally I enjoy DDGR. I started playing DD2 again recently and have been fairly addicted to it... again... As said in the video, this game isn't for everyone. The DD games in general aren't for everyone. You don't have to produce a game that's meant for everyone. As long as they're pumping out consistent content, I'm all for it.
This is not even close to accurate. This is the 2nd game made by these Devs. They bought the franchise back almost 4 years ago. They clearly stated their current games are not keeping the studio alive ion a forum post and needed to do something else to continue developing their current projects. Not sure where you got that info but it is way, way inaccurate.
I have never once seen a company openly admit to cutting content out of a game that is in development because they were that lazy and greedy to integrate it. What in the world is wrong with them? If this company goes under again then it's their own fault. Maybe finish a game before "starting" another. Maybe finish the game that was already a finished game before "starting" another. I love DD2 even with it's problems but DDA and now this is just unacceptable. What a train wreck of development and an extremely good case study on how not to develop. These games are ultimately a waste of money because they're just going to take the money and do nothing with it anyways. Games like this are why steam should step in and just give people refunds when the company is that negligent.
Your description of what and why this game exists totally makes sense. I'm not familiar with a 'rogue' style game, but I'm up to giving it a go and as you said, for 7½ dollars, why the heck not. It definitely looks fun! As far as I can tell, it has a very similar feel to the DD series since we're able to place down defenses, even if only temporarily. It also kinda reminds me of dd1 deeper wells challenge. Defeat the enemies with just your hero.
I agree that it was a better choice to make this a separate game rather than a DLC, but I don't feel this game should have been made. Dungeon Defender fans want to see Chromatic do more of what they love with the IP, not go and make something in a completely different genre. Reminds me of when Ashes of Creation (A still unreleased MMO) tried to release a battle royale game with their assets to make some money. It completely bombed, not because there was anything wrong with the game but it wasn't what fans of that company and IP wanted to see.

DD2 is the past sadly, time for everyone to come to terms with that :P They said right on their post that DD2 is well past the engine and code's capabilites. We will still get updates for it, but saying anything is a distraction from DD2 is just not quite realistic by any means at this point, when it has gotten more attention than any of their games in the last year. Definition of Rogue-Like: A game like the game Rogue. Rant: The sad thing is if they actually put effort into their games instead of just hoping something is successful they could be much more successful than they actually are. But it is visible from space how little they actually care about their games and communities. They basically shot DD2 in the foot with chaos 9 with most players have no chance of ever completing it given how much time (money) is required to complete it. They also left themselves no room to expand the game beyond c9 with how badly it was implemented. This product will follow the same path. It seems like unless they randomly explode in popularity on a fluke they will continue putting no time or effort into their products to make them good.
It looks like dungeon defenders eternity ) Cashgrab with unfinished product and empty promises (we all know how the highscore system there works). Just to milk their fanbase for the 5th time with the same game

I've got a little over an hour of game time so far. Still getting used to the gameplay mechanics and not dying at my usual ungodly rate, but it's fun. It's definitely worth the $8.
Had I never played Dungen defenders I'd possibly be interested but as everything is reused assets(again) it's just a new game mode for €11, and not a very good one. As a roguelike it falls short of €2 titles, that's pretty poor. It's no gamble that Chromatic is struggling today, not just financially, making this scream cash grab. Could it be good down the line, sure, but Chromatic isn't exactly stellar when it comes to putting out content or patches.
The thing that makes me worry is my favorite game (Monday night combat) the developers decided the start making a bunch of random games and now work on their main game and they ended up going under and now will never see a monday night combat 2, and with what i looks like they are doing i feel scared that DD is doing the same, DDA doesnt feel complete enough for them to do another project and when they make another game in the same game kinda feels like why not just make it a mode in DDA to draw more people into that…
Because it is a different game with the same assets. It is designed to attract a different crowd. A fan of rogue lite games is not going to buy a full game just to play a rogue lite mini game. Think Fortnite, ya know that was not a Battle Royale at the start but an Action Defense game? The original battle royale was a side project using the assets from the main game that ended up completely blowing up.
That a big part of their main consumer demographic initially goes "what's a roguelite?" is maybe telling of what a risky pivot this is for the franchise haha. I'll prob get it, and add it to the long list of steam games I never have time to play
Super fun so far, but will need fleshing out to ensure people will dip back into and buy DLC when it comes. Separate client is the way to go for many reasons. Just a shame that chromatic keep making pr mistakes , looking at the Reddit comments they've really upset some of the community which is really unfortunate for all parties. Must say again, why o why would pay all that money for sponsored streams when the game has no matchmaking and is still so early access.
I would rather them spend time marketing the games they already have dd2 have been out for years and I’m sure there’s a lot of people who haven’t even seen it yet but hopefully they’re not spreading themselves to thin.
DdA still needs polish too, so 0 faith this will get polished enough. Shit if you want a rogue lite buy Bindings of isaac or Risk of rain 2. Or Enter the gungeon or Hades, plenty of better titles available and they are polished
Not even the godfather of Dungeon Defenders can make me the slightest bit interested in this poorly thrown together cash grab game. I would of been more impressed by Chromatic as a whole if they released just one new map than this trash.
Truth, this game takes out everything I like about dungeon defenders. Loot, unique modes and well just everything about the other games isn't here, it doesn't deserve the name in my own opinion. I'd rather play anvil, free btw.
What is their main game? cause DD2 was supposed to stop getting updated 3 years ago This was supposed to be something for DDA but they couldn't make it work due to engine limitations or something so they made it a game instead And for the main Dungeon defenders it's old, another remaster wouldn't hurt tho
@@falconimation1 I would assume their newest game, that they still haven't finished; DDA. I was thinking they probably should focus on their current project instead of branching out. And DDA is a "remaster" or "remake" of the original.
@@Zafirn64 yeah more of a remake from what i've heard, cuz everyone is saying it's shit compared to the original Anyways It was supposed to be a update for DDA but engine reason's made it so it's a game instead
I don't mind spin-off titles at all, it's cool for variety and for worldbuilding / lore reasons. However, this spin-off has no soul whatsoever. It's not unique, mainly because it's Chromatic asset-flipping their own game into something new. Spin-offs are an opportunity to innovate, or go wild and break the rules set up by the main-line games. They're not doing much of that here. The game-feel, controls etc. etc. are all copied over from DDA, and it just doesn't sit well with me. With the state DDA is in right now, I'd rather have them put more workforces onto that game and shape it into something fantastic (with an open ear to the community ...), because right now DDA still feels like an early access game to me. All in all, my frustrations are coming from a positive place. I absolutely love the franchise, and really really hope they can turn it into something great again.
We (As in Dungeon Defenders Tower Defense Fans) don't. But the game is not for us, it is to try to reach out to a larger audience in a different genre's fan base.
I think moneys are loaded into the streamer's pockets. This is the same game just the towerless version, not an "entirely" or "completely" different game while it is repeatedly said in the video. Everyone has their eyes and experience with this company. Chromatics finding "different" ways to find take your money. You could just add this is as a mod. Come oon Chromatic, make different things just don't sell the apple by dying it into different colors. This is so baaad, enough of this.
They meant to do it as content for DDA, but due to engine limitation (apparently) they didn't and had to make it a game, also it's not towerless, and personally i'm pretty intrigued by the idea if executed well.
I’m sorry but.. popular roguelites is bc of strategy and action. It’s not as fast pace as risk of rain 2 or dead cells. Strategy is just stat stick check so.. something needs to be done in either aspects to be remotely attractive to roguelite players. With what they have currently, the most efficient move to do is to just throw balance out the window and allow crazy items/builds. Bc the current animation and feedback loop is very stale. I would even say fortnite save the world the original fortnite guns and character building is more interesting to look at atm.
Why say you are sorry? You just repeated in long form what I said in this video. It's a very early and unfinished product, but it is fun. Not sure what exactly you are trying to debate here :)
Ok, first things first... This is NOT early access. They have been developing this game's assets since they started DDA. Just because the game mechanics have shifted and they advertise this as a standalone does not mean this game is "new." The only different thing about this game is that there aren't any real towers anymore and progression is heavily throttled. Everything else in this game they had developed for DDA and are just flipping it for profit. This company has just gone down hill ever since Stieglitz was terminated. DD2 started with some real promise in pre-alpha but the company just made some really dumb creative decisions and now we have this last attempt at a cash grab it would seem. Most companies when they reuse assets and add slight tweaks to gameplay don't sell it as a standalone... it's what we call DLC/Add On material and typically it is inexpensive compared to the price of the vanilla/base game. This is 60% of the base game value, which is just dumbfounding.
As cool as it is I'd love to see more frequent changes and updates to DDA

DdA still needs polish too, so 0 faith this will get polished enough. Shit if you want a rogue lite buy Bindings of isaac or Risk of rain 2. Or Enter the gungeon or Hades, plenty of better titles available and they are polished
fully recommend Risk of Rain2 for those wanting to rid their lives of DDA shenanigans.. (I miss the DD1 community when it was lively) :/
Maybe they should work on their main game before releasing new games?
What is their main game? cause DD2 was supposed to stop getting updated 3 years ago
This was supposed to be something for DDA but they couldn't make it work due to engine limitations or something so they made it a game instead
And for the main Dungeon defenders it's old, another remaster wouldn't hurt tho
@@falconimation1 I would assume their newest game, that they still haven't finished; DDA. I was thinking they probably should focus on their current project instead of branching out. And DDA is a "remaster" or "remake" of the original.
@@Zafirn64 yeah more of a remake from what i've heard, cuz everyone is saying it's shit compared to the original
Anyways It was supposed to be a update for DDA but engine reason's made it so it's a game instead
10:28 This "game" is nothing but artificially cut content scam.
I think the missed question though is why do we need a Going Rogue?
We (As in Dungeon Defenders Tower Defense Fans) don't. But the game is not for us, it is to try to reach out to a larger audience in a different genre's fan base.
I think moneys are loaded into the streamer's pockets. This is the same game just the towerless version, not an "entirely" or "completely" different game while it is repeatedly said in the video. Everyone has their eyes and experience with this company. Chromatics finding "different" ways to find take your money. You could just add this is as a mod. Come oon Chromatic, make different things just don't sell the apple by dying it into different colors. This is so baaad, enough of this.
yeah, even the AI looks exactly the same.
They meant to do it as content for DDA, but due to engine limitation (apparently) they didn't and had to make it a game, also it's not towerless, and personally i'm pretty intrigued by the idea if executed well.
Just bring back part one re make
I’m sorry but.. popular roguelites is bc of strategy and action.
Not sure what exactly you are trying to debate here :)
i dont undertand why they do a another game instead focus on DDA and finish it before make this new game
This game would be sick if its for mobile 😅
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Cash grab alert! get outta here.... lol
This game is garbage made that was made in 3 days. They didn’t even make new assets for the game. Honestly feels like a mod more than a game
not tower defense instantly uninterested
honestly all of these dungeon defenders games are trash besides dd2 idk why they didnt follow the concept
Tbh the general reactions of this new game is identical of when DDA came... specially the bad ones.
