- Another discovery from Flor Peeters’s collection “Intieme Stonden”, translated “Intimate Hours.” The notes aren't that difficult but the challenge is not to play note but to play this piece perfectly legato from the first bar to the last one while giving some notes accents (middle part) with subtile volume decreasing and increasing throughout the piece. I think this piece is beyond beauty. It's musical magic! Watch closely how the composer in the middle part breaks the harmonies with a few subtile disharmonies. Genius!
Played with the Aristide Cavaillé-Coll Organ of the St. Etienne Abbey in Caen (Hauptwerk)

Heavenly music from Flor Peeters and beautifully played by you on my favourite Cavaillé-Coll Organ sample set: bravo, Rien!

Hello Rien. Indeed, moving meditation and legato well done too.

Thanks! ☺️
Beautiful! ❤
Thanks!
Mooi gespeeld Rien.
👍👍👍👍👍
Danke!
A divine composition that you obviously enjoyed playing, being totally immersed in the music. Regarding the accentuation of notes, just making a little break before the note gives that impression. On a fully unenclosed pipe organ there is of course no other option, and in all organ music, as you as an organist will of course know, it is the only way of letting the listener know whether it is duple or triple time etc.. As a teacher I often had to remind a student that if a phrase began with an anacrusis that they had to have a little break before the accented beat. We all have a tendency to 'hear' what we want to hear rather than what the listener is actually hearing. I've often heard organists do the play-over for a hymn and not immediately recognize it because there is no sense of the pulse. Keep up giving us more Flor Peeters Rien.
Have you ever heard him playing? ruclips.net/video/kZECdYaV308/видео.html
Hello Colin, thank you for listening and for your comment. Of course you are right about the accents. Nevertheless, I wanted to play this particular piece like it was one big slur to receive dreamy effect that I wanted for this particular piece. But of course in generally you are absolutely right, especially if it’s music that the congregation or choir has to sing.
Any idea if op.17 is still in print? A quick search doesn't find it anywhere??
No, but it’s, together with opus 25 (part 2 of the collection) part of a new album with the name “sixty short piece for organ”. And that is still available.
@@RienSchalkwijk Found it - thanks!
Nr.3 in 60 short pieces Gray publications
@@ericvanransbeeck7806 Im happy it’s still in print together with opus 25 in a new album. At the same time it’s a pity that it’s only available in the US (I ordered it from the US) while it’s not available in Europe. It’s not even available in Belgium where he lived and worked. Crazy!
@@RienSchalkwijk Yes - I can't find it anywhere in the UK or Europe 🙁 Postage from the US is more than the cost of the music!!
Which console is this?
It’s a custom build console by the Dutch firm Mixtuur. Browse thru my community posts for a post I made a couple of months ago with the detailed specs!
