  • In this episode, Tony and Dino fly into Uber punk icons the Clash. Although the clash has a small number of records, there seems to be near unanimity as to the better records. The original (Mick Jones) mix of Combat Rock (Rat Patrol from Fort Bragg) is supposed to be better - more like Sandinista. But the manager wanted a hit so they hired Glynn Johns to rework it and cut out the experimental stuff. That same manager, Bernie Rhodes, was behind “Cut the Crap.” Joe kind of let himself be manipulated by him. There’s an interesting doc called “Rise and Fall of the Clash” that mostly covers the end of the band, with Strummer telling people he screwed up by letting Bernie take over the band. By the end, Strummer tried to get Jones back, but BAD was underway by then.
    My list would be:
    Clash
    Sandinista
    London Calling
    Combat Rock
    Give em Enough Rope
But the order could totally switch on any given day (I don’t consider “Crap” to be a Clash album)
