This is exactly what a beginner needs when looking to understand and implement what it takes to get to the next level. Not only does it open up your options but it also makes you start thinking/understanding how to make the most out of the potential of your character.
Bro I haven't even watched and I know this video's gonna be fire, just based on comments and my past experiences watching your videos. Also the ones that you showcased at the start seem like really useful ones that I've been wanting to learn for a while.
Thank you so much for putting the actual inputs on screen!!! Whenever i see a video about techniques that don't include them I'm like "Yeah I already knew *that* I can/should do that, I just don't know *how* " haha So, that's highly appreciated! 👍
Thanks for this video! Attack canceling & Reverse Aerial Rushes are so difficult for me to do consistently. I'd like a video on that for basics. Dope music in the background to go with this video
This has got to be the best Ultimate Advanced Technique Video out there! I feel like other Smash Tubers just cover the most basic things we know instead of tech that’s actually useful and beneficial. This will definitely show really how technical Ultimate is. I think a Tech you should cover is “Boost Early Aerial off Platform” It’s similar to boost grab or boost walk. Basically you stand on a platform, dash and flick the right analog stick to cancel your dash animation near the end of the platform which will slide you off the platform and an aerial comes out! This may not be useful, but I’d definitely love to see what things people can come up with. Maybe you can cover Instant Double Jump, Different B Reverses Tech, Dash Boost Pivot Grab and etc. Other than that, awesome video. :)
yea theres like platform setups where u get a reset on a platform and dash forward to drag the opponent off the platform and then when u both drop you can act quicker and get certain followups! it’s very situational but its still something u can do :) and thanks for the kind words and support! 🙏🏽
Hi, I’m a joker main who has watched your videos for a while since I do have some technical prowess but like seeing your content and how you explain. I would just like to say your videos are amazing, and they’re short and to the point. I already knew how to do these, but I really liked how you explained them with detail in a quick way, I see other videos that cover the same things however they focus on one per video and make the videos long to gain more money from it and it’s just not necessary. You covered it in a fluid way where you transitioned into tips that have similar inputs. I really respect this channel and love this vid! ❤️
Good stuff man. That Was the best explanation of the pivot boost forward tilt and the boost grab. I had also heard somewhere before that a type of Boost grab with additional range was possible by grabbing with grab button and A simultaneously.
I feel like Shield Stun Canceling is another technique that is extremely new player friendly yet insanely useful and not terribly well known. For those who do not know, if you are blocking a multihit attack that leaves you in shield stun for more than 11 hits (usually a rapid jab, but it also works for stuff like Bowser's flame breath and Ice Climbers ice wind), you can input a roll to get a frame 1 invincible roll to get out of your shield stun. If your opponent doesn't see this coming, you can get a huuuuge punish on the opponent after the cancel, and the input is really easy to do too (literally just start mashing roll when you shield a rapid jab or similar move). In terms of "tech that you can implement into your game TODAY" this is near the top of my list. Gimr has an excellent video on the subject, but the more players that know about this the better.
Thanks for the video. Can't believe I didn't know until now that you can cancel your running by pressing down on tilt stick. This is gonna help me a lot. A small tip from a not-so-good player trying to improve: Most of these techniques were very well explained in terms of control inputs, but RAR felt a bit rushed and not really explained much with the inputs on screen. This can be tricky to get for people who are fairly new (personally I'm starting to get used to it after practicing it a fair amount, but it has been tricky getting it consistently). While I know most of these techniques, this video is still a good reminder that I need to practice some of them more so that I can actually apply them more consistently.
i have an attack cancel/RAR video (ruclips.net/video/_8u0BsH-m4Q/видео.html) which covers them more in-depth so i didnt want to go too in-depth in this one and tried to briefly explain it since at least to me its not that hard to execute :) thanks for watching! 🙌🏽
The videos are great as always, but I thought of an idea for future videos. I think that some chill beats or something in the background would be good, cause sometimes I focus on the music too much. Basically just put some beats in the videos where the music isn’t so busy or something like that, with some chill drums and bass so it still sounds good but doesn’t distract. Maybe it’s just me though, I’m quite the music nerd myself, and it’s not like I can’t focus on your videos at all, they’re quite good. Keep up the good work😁.
i've made videos with chill beats before but they get easily copyrighted! so using videogame music (especially from the same game you're playing) is a safe way to go as a content creator
@@CozyyPR Oooooh, that makes sense... i think I remember you using em’ too, but I just thought of the Background Music that MoS uses. But yeah if it’s the safest then it’s probably better to keep it safe.
you really know what you're talking about! this reminds me of some older smash wii u izaw and my smash corner videos, the way its written and editted, its very well done and my favourite kind of instructional smash content! im excited to see how you develop your format if you keep going in this style,, its really good and cohesive, and, Ultimate feels void of that kind of content like it, after captain L stopped making scripted videos. i think if i had any tips, maybe give more life to your narration! i think the actual writing is good but sometimes it can come off as disinterested or lifeless, although, it still does a much better job than most other small creators making instructional videos. another recommendation is to better align the clips to what youre saying. Its a lot of work and you did a pretty good job of it in this video!! but, i think it could be better? im not quite sure why. the clip with palu doing another bair after a double jump comes to mind, i think thats an excellent visual aid but its a little understated. I think it _should_ be understated, but, maybe not as much. maybe spending some more slow motion time on it before transitioning would be good? idk a little more visual variety would be good too, like different positions on the stage, different stages, etc. a qol tip that can make this less tedious is backing out from the CSS to change stage with the A button, instead of holding B, since B also deselects. if youcant mod your console then also i wouldnt recommend doing different positions on stage, its hell to set up and can be unreasonably exhausitng i think the video would have a much cleaner style without some of the normal youtuber holdovers, like wind sfx on screen transitions and making a dedicated disclaimer section, instead of incorporating the disclaimer into the flow of the script where it is relevant, or in the thesis more smoothly also! having a full controller graphic instead of just button could be really useful depending on what the inputs are and a tiny additional bits of information! dash cancel walk can also be done single sticking. If you input up or down on the control stick in initial dash, it also transitions to a walk and extends the distance, i try to do this when im buffering it and dont want to. It doesnt need to be a full up or down, sliding to the corner notch does the trick, and the same motion also cancels a full run into a walk letting you do standing grab anywhere without needing to commit to initial dash if youre already running. you can _technically_ do rar's from initial dash butit doesnt work quite the same i dont think. its the same motion that is required for a perfect pivot upsmash! inital dash in canceled by a brief dash out, jump cancel up smash (significantly easier on smash stick and tilt jump, but not required) boost down and up tilts can be done with precise angles on the second stick, but, universally, the most optimal slide distance for all forward facing tilt boosts, is to time the tilt frame perfectly after the dash back, which will slide you the furthest and lets you not have to hit a tight angle if you use cstick, since youll always face forward on regular down tilt. you can do a boost smash forward smash as well! its been a while since i discovered it and usually do it without thinking, but i _think_ its performed by the same motion but by pressing grab when turning around, and then flicking the c stick back in the original direction. "boost grab" is a very vague term, ive seen it also used to describe roll cancel grabs, dash attack cancel grabs, and jump cancel grabs. to do a pivot grab without a dedicated grab button, first press shield, then tap the attack button and afterwards turn around. If you turn around while pressing shield you will always do a back roll. some characters get a lot from b reversing moves on the ground, especailly when combied with a turn around b move. characters like shiek and roy's neutral b become basically impossible to challenge when using them with gruonded wavebounces. an efficient way to t spike while onstage is to do the traditional ledgetrump motion, which is half circle towards ledge as you fall off, except jumping at the quarter circle and down airing as you complete the motion. when using this off of ledge, some characters can very likely accidentally do an aerial interrupt, which is when their environmental collision box shifts when using a aerial closier to the ground, which changes the state they are in to grounded in a really awkward way
You can also cancel roll and dash attack with grab. Roll cancel grab must be done from a standstill, while dash attack cancel grab can be done while running and standing.
An alternative to dash grab is dash boost grab. When you start running (dash) you are briefly faster, and if during the dash you do shield and then A, you'll have the beginning of the animation of a roll, and it will transform into a grab. Faster, longer range for grabs, without the slowdown of ending into a walk.
Great video! It would be great if you made a video on wave bouncing as well as the other techniques you mentioned at 0:15. Of course there are videos that explain these but many of them aren't very clear, and also miss some important details
Thanks for a great video. Was wondering how you attack through a platform from just standing on it and falling through. Again amazing video and will watch again to get better at this jazz.
Thanks this actually helped me a lot I have a hard times with bark airs and I was always wondering how players always turned around instantly in a combo
Is Attack Canceling mainly just helpful for back air combos? Other than executing quick back airs, I'm not sure I understand what makes it any better for most aerials than normal short hop aerials.
Damn, bro. Amazing vid. I already knew some of these: I've excessively practiced R.A.R., I had to learn how to pivot grab bc... dk, and I knew how to t spike, which is actually really funny bc DK has a confirm to that, people usually ask my why I go offstage so much as dk, but if you catch them with your up b offstage and drag them towards it, catch ledge without letting them get hit by the last hit of the up b and input the t spike it'll guarantee you a kill at like 0 percent to any character. But I'm seriously considering changing my controllers to input other techniques I had never heard of. I was wondering how people were able to switch their directions so fast after a grab to do a backair. Also, something that I wanted to ask how to input the reverse b constantly? I have tried practicing that, but more often than not, I find myself doing it more based on luck... should I just be faster or is there something I'm missing? I'm trying to flick the stick before (when charging the monkey punch, I play a lot of dk lol) and after (when releasing it and when playing with other characters from my rooster), but it doesn't work all the time.
not all moves can be B Reversed! and the way I do it is press the B button and then quickly flick the analog stick in the opposite direction. it all comes down to practice and muscle memory! 💪🏽
@@CozyyPR really? I thought all of them could... is there any specific rule for which ones can/cannot? I know my three "mains": dk, bj and bowser can have their neutral bs reversed, but I don't use that much with the exception of dk of course. Also do I hold down the b button while I input it or do I just have to be faster? Lol
i just tap the B button and right after I flick the analog stick in the opposite direction i'm facing! and when I said not all can be B Reversed, I meant the true B Reverse that affects momentum, i'm pretty sure all neutral Bs can be reversed the traditional way. (for example falcon punch you can't true B reverse as far as I know)
i have a separate attack cancel/RAR back air that covers these more in depth! check it out and leave me a comment there if u still have questions :) ruclips.net/video/_8u0BsH-m4Q/видео.html
you just jump and air dodge into the platform down diagonally, if you’re too high then it’ll look clunky. There are not many real applications but style points and maybe a mixup
Can you further explain how move buffering works? It sounds like the direction of the tilt does not matter, it is the direction of the left stick with a jump immediately following the initial input of the c-stick in any direction? I would test it myself but I am not going to be at home to try it for a while.
i have an in depth attack cancel and RAR guide that explains this better! ruclips.net/video/_8u0BsH-m4Q/видео.html but if you want to do a reverse back air from a stand still, you would have to do the tilt move (c stick) in the opposite direction you're facing, then jump and attack at the same time while holding forward on the analog stick (the opposite direction of the c stick)
With the attack canceling part. Although it is accurate, it doesn’t show how to get a turn around bair when facing forward to use it for combos. This may confuse people when watching this video. Other than that, great video!
i didnt include that because i actually have a full attack cancel/RAR guide that covers how to do it backwards! I just wanted to quickly recap what AC was :) check out the full AC/RAR video here ruclips.net/video/_8u0BsH-m4Q/видео.html
Quick question here, for attack cancel, how many frames is there for you to successfully cancel your tilt and do a reversed back air? Cause when I was doing practice, sometimes I ended up just using forward tilt the opposite way. So I tried inputting analog stick, c-stick, and jump at the same time. Sometimes it works fine, but other times I will either end up performing a forward air, or a wrong side back air.
hey thanks for the support! i believe its a 1 or 2 frame window in between the jump squat but i have a full attack cancel video that explains it a lot more in depth! check it out and leave a comment there if u still have questions 😁ruclips.net/video/_8u0BsH-m4Q/видео.html
First 20 seconds I see Plant, nice b day present. (Also for that tournament I lost both games, but I did better than last time which is what matters to me) And now I know why some people have the shoulder jump
They are actually 2 slightly different things: Turnaround Specials only change your direction and not the momentum. B reverses change both the direction and momentum. Wavebounces change only the momentum and not the direction. Like Cozy said, it depends more or less on who you ask 😆 There are a few videos that cover this, I'm sure you'll be able to find them. Hope this helped!
@@bancholeo55 yea one affects momentum while the other one doesn't. but both of them involve special (B) moves and they both end up turning you around which is why the terminology might be a bit confusing lol

(for example falcon punch you can't true B reverse as far as I know)
Would love an input guide added to turnaround attack cancel back airs, I think I input it correctly but can’t seem to get it consistently
i have a separate attack cancel/RAR back air that covers these more in depth! check it out and leave me a comment there if u still have questions :) ruclips.net/video/_8u0BsH-m4Q/видео.html
I’ve been playing smash bros for a while and I didn’t know tapping c stick down cancelled dash, that’s huge for characters with shields like... wow
Good video, very informative
thank u! glad u found it helpful 🙏🏽
woah, grab boost is just like jump cancel grab in melee
i have a feeling that one is gonna be really useful
But I was wondering if u could cover a technique to where u fast fall and air dodge on the platform super really quick. I see pros do it a lot.
wave landing.
you just jump and air dodge into the platform down diagonally, if you’re too high then it’ll look clunky. There are not many real applications but style points and maybe a mixup
Oh so * that’s * how pros casually back air like it’s nothing🤔 that’s nice to know😈
check out my actual attack cancel/RAR video which covers it more in depth! :D ruclips.net/video/_8u0BsH-m4Q/видео.html
@@CozyyPR thanks I’ll go watch it when I practice my techniques
A video on how to play or improve neutral would be helpful
Great vid
thank u !
Kingdom Hearts 2 OST. I swear the producer/composer was outta their mind when writing it-- so good 🥲
KH music is amazing! 😁
thank you brudda
you’re welcome ! thanks for watching 🙌🏽
VERY well done
thank you so much! hope this was able to help u in some way 🙏🏽
Didn't know about the 1 and 3 technique!
I smell a new series we need follow ups lol.
thanks for the feedback! glad u enjoyed this and im def down to make more of these :D
Thanks Too Cozy 👍
thank you for watching! 😁
Well done!
thank you! hope this helps you 🙏🏽
I guess I was doing a lot of these without realizing it 😅
Quick question here, for attack cancel, how many frames is there for you to successfully cancel your tilt and do a reversed back air? Cause when I was doing practice, sometimes I ended up just using forward tilt the opposite way. So I tried inputting analog stick, c-stick, and jump at the same time. Sometimes it works fine, but other times I will either end up performing a forward air, or a wrong side back air.
Also great vid! I really learned a lot from your videos
hey thanks for the support! i believe its a 1 or 2 frame window in between the jump squat but i have a full attack cancel video that explains it a lot more in depth! check it out and leave a comment there if u still have questions 😁ruclips.net/video/_8u0BsH-m4Q/видео.html
@@CozyyPR I can do RAR consistently when I am dashing. However I can't do both attack cancelling and RAR consistently out of a down throw.
First 20 seconds I see Plant, nice b day present.
(Also for that tournament I lost both games, but I did better than last time which is what matters to me)
And now I know why some people have the shoulder jump
happy bday! :D
@@CozyyPR Thank you my mans
You're awesome!
Dang Joker held me at gunpoint to click on this video
(enjoyed anyways)
lol thank u for watching! hope this helped u 🙏🏽
How do I get the turnaround b instead of side b? I can get regular b reverses fine but I'm having trouble with the turnaround
gotta let the stick return to the neutral position after you flick it before you can press b
4:27-4:37
I thought that was called a "turnaround special" not a "b-reverse"
maybe it all depends on who you ask! turnaround special and B reverse is the same thing once you think about it lol
They are actually 2 slightly different things:
Turnaround Specials only change your direction and not the momentum.
B reverses change both the direction and momentum.
Wavebounces change only the momentum and not the direction.
Like Cozy said, it depends more or less on who you ask 😆
There are a few videos that cover this, I'm sure you'll be able to find them.
Hope this helped!
@@bancholeo55 yea one affects momentum while the other one doesn't. but both of them involve special (B) moves and they both end up turning you around which is why the terminology might be a bit confusing lol
3:40 it keeps doing dash attack
Wow turning around is getting a lot of hype today.
Turning around is broken? Nintendo fix this shit.
