- Today we begin the MLB The Show 24 Franchise with the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cards are far from being one of the weakest teams in baseball, but they do have one of the most uncertain future. This is an experienced team and one of the oldest in the MLB. Every starting pitcher is at least 32 years old. The best two position players have over 10 years experience. The Cardinals will have to rebuild this organization regardless of their success in the near future. I'm excited to work on restoring this franchise to a championship standard that they have not seen in the last decade.

Cane I’ve watched you everyday for 10 years since your st louis rams franchise, sunset overdrive, and the backyard sports games. You have been a part of my life for almost half of it. I’m 20 now and I was single digits when I started watching you. I know I don’t comment frequently as I’m in college and have become a bit busier with my life but I just want to say throughout the good and bad days of my life your videos have always been there and you have been a huge inspiration for me. @MrHurriicaneLP I mean, there really wasn't any topping the insanity that was Part 2. "HAVE YOU NO UNDERSTANDING OF FORWARD PROGRESS!?" still has a decent chance of springing to mind every time I see a ref give the ball a questionable spot.

matsumoto looks like an absolute steal
I knew that Gomez Phelps was the pick, and it's a shame that he wasn't available, but the Benny Matsumoto selection may be the most impactful pick of the draft. No team in the league is making up more value later. If he can hit the ground running, he certainly has the potential to be the greatest of a now stacked starting pitching farm system.
I drafted a similar pitcher in my own franchise and he's already developing fast. Feels like the pitcher development has been sped up a little this year.
I worked a 12 hour shift from 6-6 seeing this notification when I got home just made my day so much better

Hey Cane, about what you mentioned at the end of the video, I think that prioritizing a series like this is great. Especially with the new NCAA game coming out this fall, my assumption would be that you wouldn't want to have 4 series going on at the same time, which would eliminate the Madden replacement for either the New Orleans Saints or Las Vegas Raiders series, with whatever teams that might be. With the new empty content slot for College Football, I think a more enjoyable style for that series would be in the form of the Raiders franchise. The long term storytelling is something that you excel at, and potentially taking that even deeper with the massive overhaul that a collegiate roster takes from year to year could form some interesting storylines and characters along the way, which is something that the UTSA series didn't allow much for. The depth that a series like the Minnesota and Kalispell dynasties provide was something that I think makes you one of the best sports gaming RUclipsrs on the platform today, but with the hopeful continuation of the series beyond the next installment, there is not as much time to dig deeper into those stories like you had. In my opinion those two series provided the best stories that you have ever created, and showed your great talent as a story teller. I also believe that this specific style of content that you do on this channel could be even better suited for the upcoming NCAA game. No matter what, you know that we will support you with whatever you do decide to do, just my two cents and thoughts about what could be really fun both for us as viewers, and hopefully you as a storyteller. Unsigned players are in the next year's draft. I've already done 7 drafts and noticed the ratings are way down as a whole compared to '23. I've saw 1 99 potential guy in 7 drafts
I’m glad it’s more realistic. The generational talents were more like annual talents with multiple even being in the same draft

Honestly I just wonder who the cardinals hitting coach is in real life. Through the years cardinals have a track record of “bad” hitters leaving and being incredible and vice versa (lifelong cardinals fan btw)

That's some quality drafting as far as the pitchers go. Maybe we can get lucky and see them by the end of next season.
Man, I was really looking forward to making endless "Groundball Day" puns if we went with Billy Murray instead. Oh well. Excited to see Castilla and the rest of this class in the seasons to come! (Just going off a glance, Matsumoto is basically Sean Early if Sean's arrival actually lived up to his surname. :P)

If you need hitting prospects to trade for, just look at the Orioles farm system. They have a bunch of guys that have no chance of starting on that roster.

Afaik unsigned players will appear in future draft classes, sometimes with higher ratings and rankings
I think sometimes they can fall off a bit too. In my franchise I saw a good looking first round pick go unsigned and then fall to the 4th round the next year. He was revealed as just an ok prospect, which maybe was always the case and he would have been a bust of a pick, hard to say.
Does anyone else find it funny how MLB the Show has a quirk of sending one and only one relief pitcher to the All Star Game each year? It's always one relief pitcher and the rest are closers, and has been like that for years.

I say do what make you a great creator in your series. I didn't get invested enough in the A's series to like it but I usually follow all your other work. Just do what keep you enjoying what you do and we will keep watching trust me.

Billy Murray should have no doubt been the better pick. Control and break doesnt play a large factor in simming.
And BB/9 has a really big impact. With that and his K/9 I’ll be amazed if Murray isn’t a stud.
Those who watched the A's series knew when Carlson came up with the RISP in the bottom of the 9th that he was going to deliver.
I was watching your past streams and I don't know if you know but when you player lock you can change the settings so you can still watch your batters hit while your player is on the bench
having 93 stamina out of the draft on Steve Castilla is awesome. Hes going to be fun to watch go for complete games

Cesar Prieto is a favorite of mine. I’m a pirates fan and live in Indiana which means I get to see the AAA affiliate of the pirates play. Went to watch Paul Skenes play against the cardinals affiliate. Prieto gets heckled the entire game, takes it fantastically, and it still hitting .300+. Maybe deserves a little boost
Unsigned players under 24 will end up in the next draft class, they finally got it right unlike last year where all unsigned players would end up in the FA pool

If you turn every offensive players training to hitting coach sessions (works on vision, discipline, clutch) then it can really help a lot of players improve other areas. Those 3 attributed are 3 of the most important for simulating in The Show. Guys like Wynn and Walker would benefit a bunch from it
IRL if Wynn doesnt stay a consistent enough hitter he could probably be made into a solid closer he throws in the 100s
Sullivan was a solid pick for the 3rd round. Bat looks pretty good and clutch is nice.

Hey cane, I’ve seen unsigned players in drafts up to 3 years down the line after spending multiple years in college. I believe the 22 year olds that go unsigned from college are available in free agency tho.

I really wish they would come out with this game on PC... I used to play this game all the time, but now that I have a PC and couldn't get a PS5 when it first came out, I have yet to be able to do so.
I like to set up my scouting with high effecancy/ high rating (think 85 or above) for a Pitcher, and 2 Position players, then in the weeks I focus on the prospects that are higher ranked or the 65-99 guys and try to get as many of them as I can fully scouted.. then I tend to draft players that have the potential to get 90+ potential in order to get as many A prospects as possible. I do get some B's mixed in as well but its pretty sucessful that way and easy to build your minor leagues up and get superstar players that develop.
Also I tend to save before the draft as there seems to a bug right now where it gets stuck on the prospects screen and wont start the draft.
unsigned players will return to Juco or college and end up in one of the next 3-4 draft classes that I have seen.

I stay away from drafting the guys that have an overall range close to their potential range. Sure, they may be closer to action now, but they are basically pinch hitters or bench bats.
Had an undiscovered player clock in at #17 on my board, was drafted #2 overall. Had an undiscovered guy at #38 on my board, lasted until 4th round. All over the map

Really bothers me that high power guys never develop. They never give them good on-base skills to actually perform unless they are generational.

cane,,, can you edit the draft class when the new season starts? its gets very unrealistic when a 72 overall 18 year old with D potential makes an opening day roster. then doesnt get a contract extension at the end of the year. operation sports has a good outline to follow

Carlson is NAILS. And nice touch seeing the hitter celebrate out of the box even when it wasn't a clear-cut base hit to win. Those little touches of realism go a long way.
You may want to get some scheduled days off for the vets as well. Keep them fresh and get those prospects (such as they are) a little quality time.
PS - when is this franchise gonna stop putting 40-year-old guys in the draft? These player models are wack. They look like they've had beards since they were six
In year 5 with Angels rebuild hung onto Adell he is 72/50 Contact 66/53 Power and actually had back to back decent years for me. 4.3 war season in 2027 lol

Unsigned draft picks seemingly just disappear. They certainly don't end up in the FA pool. I've gone through a few seasons and search for players that I noted were unsigned using Player Search, but they never show up. Someone correct me if I'm missing something!

You need to get rid of Adell. He's all speed and defense. Find a guy who can hit better.
