Sorry! We forgot to mention the beautiful shells in the round-up! Tom found them and gave them to me (Alex). We have never seen shells from UK shores of that size before! Has anyone got any idea what creatures made them? Gail & Alex x

They are called dog winkles, here in New England. A predatory sea snail, not edible like periwinkles are. The unexpected bottle dump was amazing, the bottles were Victorian. Have you ever found any Victorian pot lids? Peace & Happiness...Cheval

That brick is probably from the same place as the slag glass, it looks like the air inlets for a foundry, quite old too as it's obviously hand made! Excellent find!
Alex, skulls are amazing natural sculptures! I've collected quite a few over the years.... I feel that not only are they very.... organically beautiful?.... but they hold the personality of the species... don't ever be embarrassed to see the beauty in nature, even from it's more macabre side. :)

Those stoneware jars once cleaned would make nice house warming or hostess gifts. Fill them with spatulas, wooden spoons, and other kitchen gadgets and you have a great gift!. I have a small crock I found in a dump and I have it next to my stove filled with ladles and spoons I often use while cooking. My brother was in The Coast Guard and stationed in Kodiac for several years. There was a beach he went to that was always deserted except for glass balls much like yours that Tom gave you. He was told they were part of Japanese fishing nets. They had a loop blown on to it and it was enclosed so a net was sewn onto it and it kept the nets floating on top of the water. Each fisherman had his own color or design glass balls and that is how nets were identified.

When the marmalade jars have the 'ribs' close together like that, that pattern is called 'reeded'. Maybe at one time patterns were made on old handmade pots using reeds, possibly pressing a reed mat against the clay?

Hallo New Year!!! I wanted to reply to your query re my great great grandmother's jugs with all the interesting bits glued to them: no, sadly I haven't got them anymore but I did find out what that form of folk art is called. Memory Jugs! Not an isolated form of art, and I had no trouble finding many examples and even some eerie folk tales connected to them!
