It's a Weave pattern. Which is much better than a Push pattern. A push pattern is a V shape, were you're shoving material up on each pass. Some welders like that technique. Personally I don't ! Because I don't think the penetration is that great ! Think about it. You are trying to weld and get good penetration, right. How can you have that, when your shoving filler material UP. Instead of IN to the metal you want welded ! I learned the Weave way back in High School('86). And to this day, I've always had good penetration in my welds. You just want an even flow of filler material, and a nice dime shaped weave. But its no different using an ARC, or a MIG welder. The weave is the same. Small arches, not Hi ones ! You want to see what's called "Laying Dimes." Set your amperage correctly. Use a test piece to set it ! If you're using a MIG. Set your wire speed as well ! Listen for a steady even buzz sound. Then start your pass. Just go slowly with your weave, to create that dime pattern, and get maximum penetration ! Making sure not to hold and burn through at the beginning. And pull your rod or wire away, when you reach the end. Or you will blow that material away ! It takes time, patience and practice. But, you will eventually figure it out ! You will also benefit more from ARC welding. If you don't use a fan, to blow away the gases. You need that to keep the oxygen away. Or, you won't get good penetration. Also with MIG welding. It is better to use 75/25 Argon/CO2 gas. Rather than Flux core wire. There is more spatter created from Flu core wire. And your welds don't turn out as clean or nice. Trust me, It's always better to weld with gas ! Just make sure you keep your Tip clean on the MIG gun. Get a container of Tip Dip. And dip the tip in it every 5 weld passes. Or, you will develop spatter build-up inside. A little build-up will happen. But using the Tip Dip, will keep you from having to clean it out all the time. And buy yourself some Welding Pliers for the MIG. Don't use regular Needle Nose Pliers or Vise Grips. No No No ! There's a reason why welding pliers, have those designs in them. That needle nose pliers and Vise Grips don't have. Buy a good welding helmet as well. It doesn't have to be a Lincoln or a Miller ! Just buy a good Auto Darkening helmet. That you can set the Arc reaction time and the tint shade. And get one that is True Color. That's when you look through the lens and see your material in True Color. Not a light shade of green ! I picked mine up from the Eastwood company. And it works great ! Actually, buying all your welding supplies from there. Is much cheaper, than a welding supply store. Because of the mark-ups ! And Eastwood doesn't sell cheap stuff. I have the Eastwood 250MPI Dual gas welder. It works off of 120 or 240 volt power. It works great and I really like it ! Do your own research and shop around. But, I'm sure you'll be ordering from Eastwood. They have tons of instructional videos as well. From body work to welding and even woodworking. I find them very helpful when learning and starting out ! Best of luck to all of you and your welding skills. And hey, don't get frustrated. Chicken scratch(blobby welds and spatter) is where we all start learning from ! Ha Ha Ha..Lol.
